  • Favorite Recipes Not Being Saved When Leave EQ

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had a weird problem with newly added recipes disappearing.

I can search for a recipe and click on "Add" and it will be there the next time I go back to the tradeskill later, but ONLY if I do not exit all the way out of EQ.

Again I am ADDING it, and I can zone, camp to character select screen, and it will still be there when I come back. But if I exit from EQ my newly saved recipes are gone the next time I start EQ. I still see saved recipes from before this started happening, but new ones I add go away.

This has been going on for several weeks, but it is annoying. I have done a complete file check through the patcher, and it hasn't helped.

Anyone heard of this before, and know of a possible fix?

The most frequent cause of this is hitting the saved recipe cap. I believe there's a limit to how many recipes can be saved across all containers. So if they limit is, say, 100, and you try to save 102 recipes, it will work while you're logged in, but when you log out and back in, it will only read the first 100 recipes. You effectively lose the last two.

I don't know the actual number of saved recipes, though.

That may be it! I have been working on every tradeskill of and on over the last few months, and I know some of my containers have a lot of saved items.

Especially things like celestial essence that have dozens and dozens of variations to create the same item.

I'll try deleting a bunch of my old recipes and see if that helps.

      Thanks!

The only celestial essence recipes I have saved are the single and triple sets for The Scent of Marr. for everything else (like making celestial essence as I go in Sebilis to save space) I just do by regular mouse clicking since I can do that faster than trying to find the receipe.

I believe the limit of all saved recipes is 500 not 100.

Bummer... You sure its only 500? Need more recipies. I think spell research is taking up all of mine on my lil wizzy. Is that 500 per charachter; per account?

Per UI file (which is per character)

You do realize there is a difference between "learned" and "favorite" recipes, right? There is no limit on learned recipes. Those are the ones you can search your recipe book for. Favorite recipes (which I think is what is meant by "saved" recipes here) are those that are listed without searching whenever you open a container. I believe the idea behind those is that you only mark as favorite those recipes that you use frequently.

ok i generally have VERY few favorites (i have what i make constantly.. till it trivials out.. then its removed.. max i have on a list is like 6 and thats tailoring for the DoN stuff)
Last night started pottery.. Did the Poison Vials to 148 .. they were favorited.. i didnt remove them as i was tired.. Did the Sealed Poison Vials to like 168 (got too tired and logged off shortly after)
Logged in now. .and neither are on favorites list..
not a life-changing bug, but evidently it is some form of bug

Yes.. except we have never compiled a list of recipe numbers. In the UI file for your character, under the tradeskill container section there is a line that looks like:
                        Favorites=123,4567,8987,65432,112....etc.

Great! Thanks for the clarification Ngreth. I did a purge of old unused recipies on my main and have rationalized the remaining ones. If such and such needs a subcombine of this and that I'm just using the UI search to find the items needed for the sub instead of trying to keep all the subs marked as favorites too.

Yes, you can change what your "favorite" recipes are on your end, but don't worry, you can't "cheat" and add recipes you don't know.

When you open the Tradeskill UI, the client sends up a list of the recipes you have marked as "favorite" to the server. The server then responds with that list, pared down by the type of container you've opened, whether or not you actually know that recipe, etc. (hmm, that may be it).

I wouldn't recommend editing this entry yourself though, as a small formatting error could end up removing your favorites list when it fails to parse correctly.

When thinking that 500 isn't enough, keep in mind that the only difference between a "favorite" and any other recipe you know is that you don't have to type part of the name and click "search".... not that big a deal, eh?

It wouldn't be a big deal but for the extremely irritating fact that when you open a tradeskill container there is a pause of several seconds where the search button is greyed out and you have to sit and wait before bringing up a recipe.

In fact... if the recipe isn't too large and I am only doing 1 combine, I find it is usually faster to switch to experiment mode to do manual combine if the recipe is not in my favorites.

Why is that delay there anyway??
