  • Progressive Server Crafting Inequities...

Well, Kunark is out. It also appears that smithing is out as a viable tradeskill until for the unforeseen future.

After spending thousands of hard to obtain plat, and a lot of effort, the cultural smithing recipes are still disabled. For some folks thats all fine and dandy, but there are a lot of crafters who want some reward for the effort they put into the game.

Now, if it was all tradeskills that had been reverted to their original state, I might not even bother to post. But the fact is, smithing has been reduced to its original crappy state, while pottery is making all their cultural items at a fraction of the effort and making tremendous profits in the process. I will be a potter, but that was not where my primary interest lies and after investing so much time and resources into smithing, I would much rather see some of the recipes activated.

I do not know what criteria was used to determine which tradeskills to disable and which to leave in, but it certainly seems unfair in its current state.

Cultural pottery? Thought only smithing and tailoring were cultural (not counting fletching lol)

Progression servers have been out how long? Few weeks?

And, if I remember it right, the whole purpose of the progression servers was to recapture the experience the game as it once was?

25cha steins and diety range slot items aren't recapturing the experience of the game. They are allowing potter's to make alot of money that no other skill can.

            And guess what!

There were crafting inequities, always has been, and still are.

Part of this reason now is...

Some skills got the best stuff. Some skills got it easier to make higher skills.

I am not able to go into a debate about what has been disabled and what has not because I have VERY little to do with that decision. I have pointed a few things out to Maddoc, but the decisions have been his.

Some skills are hurting now because they make things that are "too powerful" for the era. While others don't make things powerful enough to worry about, so they are able to be made all the way up.

Skill to skill things will continue to be inequitable because of this.

Progression servers = recapturing the "good old days" of EQ.

There -were- NO "good old days" of EQ.

I have ZERO sympathy for anyone on the Progression servers. You are taking valuable Dev-time/resources from the rest of the game. I was glad when they collapsed the Zeks to one. I was even more glad when Legends died. I'll dance in the streets, quite frankly, when Progression servers die.

Guy on Official forums (last year): "PoK stones ruined the game."
Same guy a day after Progressions: "Boats suck."

              Old EQ = BAD EQ.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

                i really don't understand.

There are so many problems with things getting into this server .
Tasks being done. My god have you seen the things people got out some places? The qeynos instanced? The befallen instanced? Crazy stuff that had nothing comparable until luclin. Even if the instanced are patched/disabled for progressive, the tons and tons of loot comming out of Overthere and Dreadlands ( charred wooden rod anyone?) are off setting the game way out of the way.
Face it. Misty Thicket picnics, qeynos teas, instanced loot etc. etc. etc. is keeping this server far, far, beyond what i played the first day kunark came out (thats when i picked up my first copy of eq.)
Now for what i really dont understand..
How is it with all of these items that dont belong, i can't make simple vale imbued armor? I guess Maddoc or whoever thinks my +2sta +1 wis gorget would be too uber for progressive..
**WTB hwy protector's mask.. 450pp or so, a 3rd or so what i have spent on tradeskills on progressive, 1000 times better than anything i can make.. PST.**

point one... there are no boats on progression.

point two... more people are playing on progression right now than are on entire swaths of "live" servers - even after they were consolidated. Many of us haven't played (or paid) EQ in years, so I have to respectfully say that in a large number of players opinions... you're wrong.

point three... when the progression servers finally die... ie. when Luclin and PoP are unlocked... you will probably see LESS new development in EQ. Who's subscriber dollars do you think are helping to pay for this next expansion? Remember those server population counts...

How people who think PoP ruined the game by introducing stones approve of translocators in place of boats, I will NEVER understand.

No idea where you are getting your numbers...since SOE doesn't release them. But, I doubt that. Are there a lot? Sure. More than all live servers? I would be very surprised.

When I read the progression boards (and no, I do not play on either of those servers and have NO desire to...even when they were announced), I see two recurring themes:
                    1) Things are opening up too fast! Stop it!
                    2) Things aren't opening up fast enough! Release it!

Old EQ (good or bad, however you view it) is GONE. You cannot recapture the feeling you had when you started. You just can't. It's like renting a movie you remember from your childhood that you just absolutely loved...it's not the same. It's much worse than you remembered it because of your experiences SINCE then.

If the progression servers were EXACTLY like original EQ, then no one would play. But, since they aren't, people will complain about the fact that they aren't.

As for the population...as many are straight out saying that the servers will die when PoP/GoD/etc are released...it seems that most of the population on those servers view their existance as "temporary" anyway. I have no idea how SOE is viewing it. Maybe they are seeing it as a "cash infusion" with no real plans for continued revenue.

Really ... I would never know cause i'd never eat the filthy ... (gotta stop quoting Pulp Fiction on family friendly sites) All I know is that the SAME GUY who b%$$@ed that PoK Stones RUINED the game came back and said travel time from Fadydwer to Freeport to Qeynos sucked. (Note: it wasn't a direct "quote" or "link" so I'm allowed to paraphrase.)

Every time a new server, non-transfer server, opens up a horde of "my dad's bigger than your dad" players run over to be "the first", they always lose interest this is NO EXCEPTION. My opinion DIFFERS. It's not WRONG.

The funding for development comes from the sale of expansions. People who bought PoR are the ones funding Serpent. The progression servers are STEALING development dollars and time from Serpent, not contributing TO it. That's just simple economics. No one paid a DIME MORE to play progression, and your own arguement is that people left other servers to play there, they didn't attract any true new players to the game.

Progression = big @#$%@ swinging contest. It will wear off and die, much faster then Legends and Zeks did, for the same reasons.

Ask anyone who was ACTUALLY PLAYING back before Kunkark and Velious came out how much fun being wait-listed for camps in GUK and Sol B was.

To re-iterate. I have NO ... Zero ... NONE ... Na-dah in the category of sympathy for Progression Server Woes. Tell it to people who care. That would be -exclusively- the people on the progression servers. It only NEGATIVELY effects the rest of us. (Bugged-old-world mobs on Live Servers.)
