  • Do you advertise your GM trophy?

Someone was asking the usual "is it worth it" thread (there's a dead horse candidate if it's not up there yet) but it got me thinking about the trophy and I suddenly realised that it would be a wonderful idea (IMHO) to use it while advertising my whares.

After all, we are conditioned to associate skill with better products, so it makes sense that conditioning will at the very least subconciously affect us when making a purchase in the game.

Thus, if you see two folks advertising product X and one of them is pointing out that he's got the GM trophy, sells only the highest quality X, etc, you might be more likely to purchase from him - you might tell yourself that you're only doing it because you appreciate his clever sales pitch or some nonsense like that, but you never know if your mind is actually influencing you on that perceived quality point.

So what do you think, do you do it, are you going to do it, do you already do it and if so, has it had any effect - real or imagined?

    Proudly state mine

I proudly wield mine and make it known I have one, if not out of pride than for the simple fact it proves I'm a true GM of my trade and not just some BSer saying I am to screw you somehow

I keep my trophy in the range slot at all times but I don't "advertise" the fact that I have one unless I'm being asked to make something for someone only because the trophy adds to my chance of success (ie if someone says they need a product I will tell them I have a skill of 250 plus a 5% modifier trophy). With items I have premade I don't advertise the fact that I have a trophy since it doesn't affect the quality of the product

I can't attest to a trophy, mine Broke in the Brew Barrel...

But advertizing in general does work very well.

It isn't imagined that when I have a fairly witty advertisment along the lines of:

"Thirsty? How about some Grobb liquidized meat, (linked naturally), cheapest way in the game to add 6 str and 6 sta, melees classes shouldn't leave home without it. If you don't know how to add stats with a drink, just ask!"

After being on for 12hrs selling maybe 60, I will sell 100 in an hour watching TV and spamming that every few minutes even at my high price. Also get to help a couple newbies out, and if they seem to be a true newb, how to keep it from being drunk... the High levels keep me in business, the lowbies keep me happy I make the swill.

            2...

I keep mine in my ammo slot.. Use the bags on rare occasions.. but being a jewlery 250 - i dont have as much pride as say a person who is a 250 tailor. Jewlery is done in 5 hours with enough plat, tailoring takes a LONG time.. So it depends on which 250 you are really.

As some might tell you, I flaunt my spoon at any oppurtunity.

But being a baker, there isnt much of a call for "Do combines for me". The only exception is Hobgoblin Suprise. If someone is yelling for a baker, I show my spoon, so they dont think I am some dingbat who just picked up a Pot yesterday.

If they don't like my combine prices, then they can find a less skilled baker. I am the best at what I do. My spoon is my material way of showing my pride in that.

And that statement really depends on how much money you have to play with. For YOU it took 5 hours to get 250 in JC. For me (and many others I'm sure) it was a very very long road to 250 JC, at some points I wasn't even able to afford a full stack of metal bars, but alas I was able to succeed at my trophy first try so I guess that makes up for it.

sorry for the slight derailing it just bugs me that so many people assume that all jewelcrafters are made of money and mastered the craft in a day /rant off

I keep mine in the secondary range all the time, it has better stats than any of my previous gear (sad, but true...)

That being said, I was in PoK the other night when I saw an /ooc for "someone with high skill in jewel making". I /ooc'd that I was a GM jeweler, how could I help? This started an /ooc insult-fest starting with "but you're a druid". Of course, I linked my eyeglass as proof, and the person did not need any metal enchanted for the combine they wanted, but they wanted a 'real' jeweler to do the combine. Kinda hurt my feelings.

Sit, mem Ring of Butcherblock, cast Ring of Butcherblock. *poof*, no more insults to my skill.

                    Whoa,

I never even thought of that Arryn...

Giving JC mastery as an AA significantly reduces their fail rate, which as a non-enchanter you can't do.

This is just rude to everyone in the game that went through all the trouble to get to GM in JC, only to learn they are the forgotten stepchildren, unwanted and unloved.

I feel sorry for you there.

Just noticed the post, but I believe that putting it in the ammo slot negates the stats......and trophied have stats that are too nice to waste, I think ot should either be in a bag, range, secondary or primary.

I keep mine in the primary, Ornate Rune Shield in Secondary, and Range is usually either my Magic Manual or Ceramic Skull.

I am going to ignore the fact that you don't take pride in the fact that you are a 250 JC'er, and simply wonder why you even bothered.

                        I am a Grandmaster Tailor.

My enchanter alt is a Grandmaster Jeweler.

I make 30 or 40 combines a week as a tailor. As a jeweler, I have made 2 combines since Thanksgiving (end of November), not including the 200 or so combines for gem studded chains for me.

I probably worked as hard on jewelry as I did tailoring. Not so much getting components, but in getting cash (my first character, so I had little extra cash for jewelry) -- I spent as much time soloing Sea Furies in OOT for exp and cash as I did soloing Rockhoppers in DS for hides.

Which do you think I have more pride in the accomplishment?

I like having my trophies in my hands. It makes people stop and look twice:

Baking Spoon (looks like a mace) and Brewer's Corker (pick) : "Hey, that wizard is dual wielding!"

Jeweler's Eyeglass in main hand (glowing shield) and Brewer's Corker offhand : "Umm, hun, you are backwards. How did you get the shield in your main hand?"

                            A trophy isn't any better than a geerlock, from a customer's perspective.

And for some skills, like smithing, a trophy is actually inferior to one of the Luclin items that adds 10 or 15 percent.

Sure I use my trophies to simulate dual-wield, but I just advertise max skill rather than mentioning the trophy.

Being the first 250 smith on my server I rarely am questioned about my skill anymore. But I always mention the chances that I may fail and also mention that I have as good a chance as anyone in the game to succeed. I like to 'dual wield' with my trophy as well. I will use a 2 handed weapon and put the hammer in my range slot. People will think I'm a Warrior every time.
