Now compare that to the OoW augs. You start with a dropped aug and add up to 80k in components. The difference with DoD augs is, once you get the parts, including buying an AAAA, you KNOW you've got the aug. There's zero failures on the final combine.

This is kind of what I realized as well. I think people just look at the amount of precombines for it and disgard it. That was my feeling at first until I realized that 50k wasn't all that much for what I was getting (cleave5 for instance). I'm guessing once the chronal stone is found that it can be aquired with one group since the physical stats are hardly overpowered from other augs. The only real hard parts for the AAAA are the clockwork gnome bolts and shadowmane pelts. (They need to fix the Shadowmane Pelt drops bad) I know Tinkers like this because it makes them useful again and an actual path to 300 finally. The only thing they really need to change is make it so the final AAAA combine be no fail instead of 252.

Some good points... perhaps, in the end, they'll be a better value than the OoW augs.
Here's some of my thinking, somewhat freeform:
For DoD augs, our market is limited to those who wear cultural armor, or those who would given a good enough aug. That puts high end raiders out of the question, leaving primarily low/mid-end raiders (who'd wear a GM + aug over, say, elemental-qvic) and non-raiders - but it looks like the no drop stones are *only* from raids. Might get some high-end looking at a particular focus missing, some low-mid raiders who work up to it, but... *shrug*
Compared to OoW augs, we're looking at a few things. To me, OoW aug prices were largely player-set, based on the rarity and power. It didn't cost me anything to get a slugworm to drop; it cost me 5k for the black gold ingot. You can buy a completed aug for several hundred thousand plat (on Tunare, anyway), or you can get a radiant stone for cheaper, slugworms for 30-80k, and then discordant scoriae for that again. Due to the rarity and power, the prices are pretty steep.
Compare that to the AAAA. There are also rare components: the no drop aug stone, the mechanotablets for the particular effect, as well as things like shadomane pelts (rare, but at least farmable). We've also got a 20k fixed floor cost, assuming no failures, which we can't really assume; the cost to produce likely ends up 30-50k.
These can make nice things - nicer than the OoW augs, but more slot-limited. You need money, rare drops, and high skill to make one. Your buyer needs a no drop stone and cultural armor to use one.
That's why they look expensive to me - the combination of all these factors. That's why, despite the relative niceness, I'm not sure how many Chronal seals will actually get made. Yeah, 55 hp + focus + minor time effects is certainly nice; but it's the cost, and the opportunity cost - and until shown otherwise, it looks like somebody who's getting this already raids for their gear.
Take this all with a grain of salt, though
This is just my take on it; I'm no economist.
BTW, Wyv, hook me up with some elemental metal :>

Yes the 120hp would be a nice upgrade in a type 12, but for the cost and pita of the container I'll hold out for a bazu at least. And the bazu does drop off of a mob that has been 2 or 3 grouped by the uber, so I imagine it's obtainable by a full raid or less uber.Originally posted by WyvernwillI would gladly use the Discordant compared to the augs that are currently in my Type 12 slots on Don Cultural. Currently, I have 2 40hp +5 all svs in the Bp/Legs and 1 35hp +5 all stats in my arms.
Given the possible other bonuses... even the raw 120 hps alone is somewhat worth it.
As for the time sink and pita factor... doing suits of masters and grandmaster armor is no easier.
For silk classes the difference between master and gm is minimal, and the required drops for the gm silk stuff is nearly nonexistant (and requires 2x the items of non-silk!) so I'll be using a master's robe if anything most likely.

why make the assumption that high-end raiders are not interested? While I would luv to get an anguish BP, they are highly contested and I have spent my DKP elsewhere. With a DODH type 12 aug and cultural armor, I can have a BP on par or better than the Gladiator's. While this is a long quest, I intend to finish it and be able to actually use the stones when they drop. For DoD augs, our market is limited to those who wear cultural armor, or those who would given a good enough aug. sussfuly made one (well 4 once i bother to farm more shadowmane pelts) on Tunare as of aprox a week ago
and the holepooker as well (ask redi he's seen them buhahah). this stuff + skill ups from 220 on my lt tinekr to 265 ish cost in the area of 200k and i have a lot of stuff left.
the mechano instution tablets are the pita part but i was assured by maddoc in game that they do indeed drop, however they drop off caster type creep reepers which is a rare spawn. rare spawn and rare drop fun stuff.
btw these do seem to be like the DON cultral stuff with the 250 skill dealy since my tinker with his 265 skill makes about 70% of the trys (stupid GD shadowmane pelts)
curently the only hinderance i see with this stuff is the shadowmane pelts, the mecano tables, the garg. dust, and a good tinker.

After tying to make sense what you wrote I think you tried to tell the caster mechanotablets drop off caster creep reapers..?
Well, I haven't seen one yet in my 200 kills. Is there a mission / task with them somewhere because there sure isn't any of them in Corathus Creep.
