  • Foraging, Vendor Diving, for Profit...

OK, I am playing on a new server, and need plat without being high enough to kill for it...so I'm gonna make a ranger and park him in some zone, with a macro that keeps foraging as long as I poke it every few minutes.

    So the question is:

What zone, considering the ones which (for stupid reasons) ban low level toons, is the best one for me to make plat foraging?

Both for selling in trader (probably the big money-maker) and selling to vendors (used to be able to make big plat on hynid and cragbeast meat, but that's nerfed).

And, once I have a little plat, what zone's the best for buying loot other players have sold to vendors, for resale in bazaar? I mean taking into consideration what good loot people tend to decide to dump on what vendor rather than sell in bazaar themselves, for example, and also what vendors aren't already overcamped by people vendor diving...

While I'm at it, anyone have favorite stuff to watch for, which people underprice in bazaar? On my main server, I spend thousands of plat on skins and silks, for example, and on GoD/LoY tradeskill fodder, which people often price at a tenth of what ubers are willing to pay, if they can find someone selling it in volume, not just a few at a time.

I buy 'em from the low-priced, low volume sellers, and mark them up to the top tolerance of the product, gathering enough together to make it worth paying a lot to get them.

You too. Which items should I be buying and stocking in bazaar and what prices should they be priced at?

I know Lavastorm is a fairly decent zone for vendor diving. Bazaar is surprisingly nice. Maguses used to get filled up with valuble stuff all the time. Probably not so much now, but you should still check. If you could get into PoTranq, the fishing vendor there is awesome. For silks, try the vendors near the lifts in GFay. Check ALL the vendors in PoK on a regular basis after a server boot.

I hope, amongst the hundreds of people who read this thread, that none play on your new server.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

I would say one of the best current zones to forage in is the Dreadlands.

Park your butt over by the druid port in, nothing paths in there unless someone brings it.

Drachnid Silk - Used in DoN tailoring
Honey Berry - Used for LoY Ribbons, tailoring
Nodding Blue Lilly - Used in Alchemy

Quite a nice load of foragable tradeskill items for one zone.

Clockwork Grease from Plane of Innovation is also a nice forage item.

Prices according to server demand, of course.

Dreadlands, Field of Bone, Greater/Lesser Faydark are good for foraging ribbon dyes. Maybe a few other places too, I don't know all the dyes.
Velious zones for those tufts of fur for halfling backbacks.
        Tea leaves from the Karanas.

If it's been awhile since the last patch you can check vendors in the Karanas and Commonlands for quality pelts and spider(ling) silks, also Wolf Meat and Mammoth Meat for the bakers.

The best vendors to check are checked most often, usually. There are three merchants in Guild Lobby and at least eight in Bazaar, they often had surprises when these zones were new but over the last few months the merchant miners have gradually caught on. But if you're looking for low-end stuff like research components, Shadowhaven is often skipped... but all those people in Paludal have to sell somewhere.

Since you're a ranger, don't underestimate the money from farming rather than foraging. In open places like Everfrost and the Karanas, your tracking is a big advantage for finding wandering mobs like mammoths, or chasing spiderlings in Innothule or Feerrott. Spiderling silk has become more valuable than spider silk.

I suggest reviewing THIS THREAD. There is lots of good information in it.

Hmmm...having dilligently read through 7 of the 8 pages, I found almost no good information, because people mostly post what they found without posting where they found it.

            Quite uninformative, really.

            By the way:

What are the most valuable foraged items, going by typical Bazaar prices?

Now THAT is a useful site.

Glancing at the "buy in the bazaar and sell to a vendor" list, I actually HAVE one of the top ten items, an Kunzar Cloak, sitting on my trader, on the new server where I have very little plat, and priced at about what the vendor pays for it...which nobody is buying. I can sell that off instantly.

                  legal forage-botting tip

I was on vacation while the earlier thread about foraging and forage-bots was raging (and eventually got locked), but I want to add a comment about that. I won't debate the merits of SOE's position disallowing foraging while AFK; those are the rules, so be it. But I want to share this tip: if you want to forage while doing something else near your computer (e.g., playing on another box, or doing work in a separate window, or just sitting nearby reading a book), I suggest making a forage hotkey that includes a /pause to wait until the forage ability has reset, and then /vplay 1. The /vplay does a voice-tell to yourself, which I find handy for catching my attention so I can hit the hotkey again.

I think the limit on /pause is 600 (one minute), and the delay on forage is more like 90 seconds, but you can get enough delay if you put a pause on the autoinventory line also:

                  /pause 450,/doability 3
                  /pause 450,/autoinventory
                  /vplay 1

Note: you could repeat the first two lines to get a key that forages twice before you have to hit the key again, but you'll run into trouble if you have the foraging AA, because if you forage two items you'll end up with one stuck on your cursor and that blocks the next foraging attempt. I actually use

                  /autoinventory
                  /pause 5,/doability 3
                  /pause 450,/autoinventory
                  /pause 450,/autoinventory
                  /vplay 1

Also, on the original topic, Misty Thicket doesn't have a great return rate -- maybe 1-2 acorns per hour -- but if you spend the time walking around (not at sow speed) looking for ground spawns, you can collect them fairly quickly. On EMarr server they regularly list in the bazaar for 100pp (especially if you brew them into oil first), though I can usually get some if I offer 35 on my buyer.

Heh, good call on using the /vplay. I actually implemented the Voice Macro system, and am glad someone's getting a use out of it. The design wasn't exactly what I'd hoped for.

The falling down point of the voice macro system was that nobody else could hear the custom sounds you added. If you changed yours and sent them, everyone else just heard the default.

This made the whole thing virtually useless for communicating to someone else with it.

Make pp while you forage in west karana

                            Greetings.

Not sure if you know about this as i did it a lot back when i was low level. if you head to west karana and head east along the zone wall you will come to a big hill with 3 tents with about 6 bandits plus 2 more bandits at base of hill and 2 more bandits that patrol up to tents ( 10 bandits /brigandstotal here). Just east of the 3 tent bandit camp, gong down hill is another 6 bandit spawn, with 2 bandit patrol that come their from east(8 bandits/ brigand total).

Why is the bandit information important say ? well if your a good aligned race and not kos to temple of karana in qeynos. Thier is a quest given out by chesegard(sp) who is by the shield merchant at temple of karana. The quest is that he requirs you to turn in bandit sashes to him. for every bandit sash you turn in you get upto 1pp 5gp in coin and either a shield or a bronze weapon. the shield sells for 9gp and some gold the bronze weapons sell from 1pp to 4pp each depending on what chesagard give you for sash.
The bandits can also drop bronze weapons and variuos other junk which you can sell to merchant in west karana. The bronze weapon from bandits again sell from 1pp and some gold to upto 4pp depening on type of bronze weapon they drop.

Now if you going to be foraging in west karana have your autoforage button set up (ie movement key activeate forage skill). just move around clearing the bandits and selling all the junk you get to the merchants in nearby buidlings. keep bandits sash till you fill up your bags. you will be foraging and making pp at same time. once you fill up on sashs run to karana temple in qeynos and turn them in and make more pp.

This can take a while but your going to be siting thier foraging in the zone anyhow minus will use your time to make some additional plat.

Edit: oh yea the bandits come in couple races humanes , barbarians and half elfs. the humanes are monks type mobs and drop the sashes and bronze weapons the most. brigands if they spwn always drop a sash. of course if mob is holding bronze weapon it wil be visable. The level of this guys is 10 to 15 if i rem right.

PS I did this a lot form level 20 to 30 to buy spells and some gear but the foraging of them dye products can realy boost the pp you make while you doing this. I never see anyone in that zone so you wont bother lower level hunters.

Forage in GoD and sell to vendors. I belive the meats you forage are sold at a rate of 5 gold per pound. You can forage up to 15 pounders so that is 7.5pp for a forage.

Western Waste good zone also. Eggs(drake, dragon, wurm) and tuffs of dire wolf fur.
