  • Fixing the vendor side of EQ (suggestion)

I'm sure people have suggested this before, but I didn't see a recent thread so here's my idea.

Hire the EQ Traders staff ( ) to set vendor buy back and sell prices for all items the vendors will buy. The range between buy and sell should be fairly narrow (10-20%) and consistent with rarity. Vendors should buy ALL tradeskill items, including foraged ones, that aren't no-drop. Quit punishing certain tradeskillers (ie Alchemists) on buy back. If the ingredients for a smithing combine cost 58pp and those for Greater Mystical Infusion cost 58pp both finished items should sell back to the vendor for the same amount, not the 9gp the potion sells for vs the 50pp the smithing one sells for.

Obviously remove any price issues with scaling (Blocks into pieces, etc) to defeat plat-farming bots.

This is all just data base stuff that shouldn't require any programing. SoE should still pay EQ Traders at whatever rate they pay the devs, if not more.

Alchemy buy-back is way off. There's usually a thread here for Norlog's top-10 list and I would support the notion of adding alchemy buy-back prices to that list. While I'm all in favor of community involvement, Sony still needs to maintain ultimate control of thier product.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

ia gree that SOE needs to keep final control but i really do think they need to get some input directly from the tradeskill community. lord knows we deal more with trades then the develoeprs except for the few that actually come visit us and give us their input (greatly appreciated) prices really do need an overhaul. i like being able to see how many of an item exists now, makes it easier to mine.

which of the staff should do it though? from what i can tell the site needs a few mroe people to take the burden off the current staff. they do a lot of work for little to no reward and could use a break i'm sure

I think a reasonable compromise would be to put tribute on all tradeskilled items. For example if an item is expected to cost 500pp per attempt it should tribute for 500. I understand they don't want it to sell back for 500 or anything close to it since it's suppose to cost money, so why not put it as tribute? It also helps establishing a reasonable price floor for many tradeskill items that are hard to sell.

onyl rpoblem with the tribute is that some ppl would get it maxed or the guild maxed and have to disregard the rest of it.....still a loss for some

If they've a tribute value you can have a better chance at selling them. I know people who use plat for tribute so it'd stand to reason that there are at least some people out there who want it (of course you can always sell it for less too to increase buyers).

I agree adding a tribute value is a good idea, but making the vendors buy back our stuff for the cost plus a small profit (even one platt) would make tradeskilling worth while and encourage more people to do tradeskills. I mean why do tradeskills if your gonna go broke doing it.

SoE doesn't want you to make a profit from tradeskills by selling to merchants.

Once you do that, macro-bots go nuts making and selling stuff, and plat mounts up in the hands of people who will sell it on e-bay or whatever. At it's core design philosophy, EQ is an action game. They want to encourage you to go into dungeons, fight monsters, etc. for the majority of your wealth.

Selling items and things to other players is also something they try to encourage. Basically asking for SoE to make Tradeskills profitable by selling to merchants is a lost cause. And for very solid design reasons.
