  • Tradeskill Skill Caps?

I'm sure this information is in here somewhere, but after hours of searching I am unable to find any answers. I just came back to the game after about 2 years away and find that the tradeskill caps have changed greatly since then. When I left the game it was the same as the FAQ suggests... one skill to 250 all others to 200. I am now being told by friends in the game that with AAs you can take many to 250 which I understand, but then I am told it is actually 300 or 350 cap now. Can someone please update the skill cap information, I am so confused. Thank you so much =)

Around September 2004 (I forget the exact date), the cap on all tradeskills was raised to 300. As before, only one tradeskill can go over 200, and the other six general tradeskills can go up to 200.

If you purchase the New Tanaan Crafting Mastery AA, each rank will allow you to take one additional tradeskill beyond 200, up to 300. There are six ranks of this AA. If you purchase all six, you can take all seven general tradeskills to 300.

The race- or class-specific tradeskills (alchemy, tinkering, and make poison) can all be taken to 300 without any AA. In addition, they are no longer capped or restricted by level, other than the level at which you can first learn them.

Hope this helps you out. =)

Was the tradeskill cap around the same time as Omens or DoN? I thought it was Omens. If it was with DoN, then it would be around February 2005.

Omens allowed multiples over 200. DoN increased cap from 250 to 300. Purchase of OoW is required to have multiple skills over 200, as that ability is an OoW AA purchase. DoN isn't required to get skill to 300, the cap increase just happened to coincide with the release of DoN.

The absolute cap on all tradeskills is 300, except of course fishing and alcohol tolerance, which cap at 200. This is a "soft-cap" because you can have a modified skill greater than 300 through items like geerloks.

Alchemy, Tinkering, Poison Making and Research are the class- and race-restricted tradeskills. Once upon a time these were level-restricted, but that was changed when DoN was released. At the same time, guild masters stopped training people in these skills. You still have to get to the appropriate level to START these skills, but once you do, you can advance all the way to 300. A level 20 gnome rogue could take poison making and tinkering to 300 skill.

The remaining tradeskills are unrestricted. That means anyone can do them from level 1. So our level 20 gnome rogue could achieve 300 in poison making, tinkering AND jewelcraft. After you have one unrestricted skill over 200, the other unrestricted skills will be capped at 200. So our gnome wouldn't be able to advance tailoring over 200.

You can raise the cap to 300 for one additional unrestricted skill by buying the New Tanaan Craft Mastery AA ability. If you complete all the levels of the NTCM AA, you can advance all the unrestricted skills to 300. This requires level 51 and 3 AA's per skill.

This is incorrect. The ability is named "New Tanaan Craft Mastery". I'm pretty sure "New Tanaan" is Plane of Knowledge, since NTCM is part of the Planes of Power expansion. Buying OoW is not necessary for NTCM, but it IS necessary for the Tradeskill titles.

I do not believe you can buy New Tanaan Craft Mastery without PoP, but I could be wrong. My ranger with Pack Shrew doesn't need Innate Run Speed, so his General AA's are New Tanaan Craft Mastery I and Innate Regen III. Since NTCM is in the General tab, I count it toward the first set of PoP AA titles and get access to Archetype AA's.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

Doh... I was confusing the masteries with NTCM. The NTCM shows up under the General tab, so I don't think it requires any particular expansion.

NTCM does not require any expansions. It was released as a general AA a few weeks before PoP came out. You can purchase it at level 51, if you so desire. (Hence, you must have at least Kunark or some other expansion that allows you to go past level 50.)

Didnt Luclin introduce the aa system?
                    Or was it velious?

Wouldnt you need luclin or velious then to buy aa?

PoP came out a long time ago, so I could be wrong. Memories fail...

The most recent patch modified the requirements for the AA window so that anyone with Veteran Rewards could access it. Apparently the AA window wouldn't come up at all without Luclin or another expansion with AA's. Wouldn't that stop them from getting NTCM?

All my accounts have full expansions, so I can't check, but I still wonder.

You may very well have needed Luclin, but I think most people who cared about AA had it anyway at the time. I also don't have an account lacking Luclin and later expansions, so I can't check.

Multiples over 200 have been around for a looong time. Omens gave us the tradeskill mastery AAs.
