Smtihing 250+ data thru DoN master's

Started making DoN Cultural as soon as i hit 250. This is all post patch with a 290 str and 267 wis. Skilling up on Master's Wirewood Sleeves. Figured the 5% minimum was quite alright with me so will use DoN path to 300. Results so far

S= Success attempt, F= Failed Attempt at combine

      SS - 251
      S - 252
      SSSS - 253
      SSSSSSSSS - 254
      S - 255
      SFSSSSSSSSFSS - 256
      SSSSSSS - 257
      SSS - no skillup yet

Small sample thus far (40 combines) but will update as more info becomes available.

        Last 2 mini runs

Can only remember my last 2 mini runs.

1 skillup in 97 combines to 248 in tailoring on DoN masters armor. (Had posted on eqforums, but quickly deleted because my comments more indicative of a primal scream than a simple info post.)

Prior to that had 1 skillup in 30 combines to 247 on Arctic Wyvern hides

Just prior to that, I do rememeber actually getting 4-5 skillups at an average of 1 skillup in 16 combines. (I think that should be my overall average at 250ish skill.)

I am building up for another run of Velious armor to get to 252, and will have a run of a hundred or so DoN masters items after that.

If this thread stays open, I will post results for a run of 200ish combines in a week or two.

Guess I can add my last run here, even though it didn't get me to 300.

400 misty thicket picnic combines, original skill 276 + trophy (so a modified of 280 something, I forget exact number), gained me 16 skillups. Final skill 292, and I only had 25 failures, with a wisdom of 295 (no mastery AAs or salvage)

            Grandmaster Baker - 300 w/ Rolling Pin

I may be a little slow on the uptake, but this just registered with me. Is there an increased chance of skillup on a success with higher primary stat? I thought chance of increase was same for all on a success and primary stat only factored into skillup % on a failure. (Why did I think this?)

You are right in some cases, but usually not. It depends on how high the stat is and the difficulty factor of the skill which you are making a combine for. In fact, in some cases its even possible to reach a point where more stat doesn't even effect skillup chance on a failure (like say smithing when your str, int, or wis is 400+).

See the sticky threads or just experiment with the calculator for more details.

The confusions probably comes from the old formula where after a certain point, about 190 skill... the skillup on success never exceeded 5% but your stat would end up having a larger effect on the chance of skillup on a failure since that could also reach 5% but was in many cases still being affected by your stats.

The new formula, your stats make more of a difference for a larger amount of the curve since there is not longer the 5% "cap/floor"

Ty Ngreth and Qaladar. I did plug some numbers into calculator, just to get a "feel" for impact of stats on Skillup on success.

Per the calculator, you max Skillup on success at 215 (easy), 315 (med), and 415 (hard). (at least at my skilllevel of 248.) It looked like it was a bit harder to maximize skillup on failure, but I would plan on doing combines close to triv,to minimize failures.

(I assumed "easy" would apply to tailoring and smithing since they are ranked as a 2. "Hard" would apply to, say, Jewelcrafting, which I think is a four.)

Anyway, I realize this has been a brief departure from the data-collection nature of the thread, but I was considering putting off my next tailoring run until I up'd my stats. I think I should be ok, though. At 280 WIS, 248 Skill, I should be close to max Skillup (on successes, anyway.)

Thanks for better helping to understand the new formula

Simply double that number for what you need to maximize skillup on a failure. Also, subtract 15 (for success... 30 for failure) from that number for skills which use an alternate stat (fletching and smithing (and I think also Poison Making)).

See the stickied thread for which skills are 2,3, or 4. Off the top of my head, fletching and JC are 4 and smithing and tailoring are 2 (making JC the hardest tradeskill on a strict average number of combines basis and making smithing the easiest on the same basis).

Someone please enlighten me as to whether this is series of progressions to skill up is reasonable?? I can only farm so much, and am broke from buying components. Anyone who isn't a wood elf or karana diety can surely appreciate how much time and effort has gone into collecting the components above for that many runs at fletching and still the skill ups are not coming. And yet the developers will not do anything about us, whereas the others get to use merchant fletching to 300 for under 25k.

Total cost from 282 to 300 fletching, approximately 2 million.

Oh Celeste, you poor dear, I feel your pain completely. What is it about tradeskill nuts like us that makes us refuse to give in. I'll raise a glass of wine to your beer anytime.

PS I've got 8 x obisidianwood bows + 7 girplan feather arrow combines just waiting to see if they snuck through in the patch any 'increased chance of skill-up' to fletching without telling us. I'll be making them tonight in the vain hope I can get that last point from 299-300.

Hey Ysall, actually I'm a wine drinker too. But at the rate we're going, we might as well cry into something stronger. Like Vodka, or Whisky. I am currently on fletching break for another 2 weeks. Have to lick wounds after last night's 48 combines without a skill up. Also need time for the bazaar to replenish. Somehow, I've singlehandedly managed to raise innovative parts from 50pp to 350pp each bolt/gear, a very sad occurrence.

PS I didn't see any patch message on the devs fixing fletching. I have about 8 stonewood bows and 11 girplan feathers saved up also, never know tho.
