  • How's the new merchant UI on Test?

For those who play on test server, can you tell us the pros and cons for the new merchant UI from a tradeskiller (read: vendor diver) point of view?

  • #2
Icons are smaller, each line contains the icon, the item name, and the cost. The lsit is sortable by item name or cost, so if you are looking for several spell components in a price range, this makes it much easier.

Cons are that it resets the entire window everytime you buy out the merchants stock on an item. If you are continuosly buying all spell components, then it resets you to the top of the list and resorts the items by name. I wish it would leave you at the line you bought at and not change the sort order (which is how the old UI worked).

Sounds like the same UI used in the guild bank. Every time I withdraw an item it resets the list and I have to re-sort. Most annoying when I'm standing there trying to manage our guild's inventory.

Best thing since sliced bread. Not having to hold alt and scroll at the same time 'cause the names are listed rather than just the icon.

A possible con is that the icons are smaller, so if you are used to scanning for your vendor diving by pictograph.... it is harder. I always found that I had to scan names under the old way... too many false positives..... One example that comes to mind is Jade and Jade shards...

The vendor box does cover a much larger portion of the screen, don't see that as a pro or con myself. I do wish I could eliminate some of the columns. If it costs under a plat, I don't need to know exactally how much silver it is going to cost me unless checking for best posible price....at that point I can click on something.
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

You can resize the merchant box, you know. You can drag the right border and the bottom border to resize.

Like Trellium said, the only thing I don't like is that it resets you to the top of your list every time you buy something. Very annoying when vendor diving.

I really love having all the names right there since I almost never look just for icons.

            OMG! Names right there!!!

I personally use a modified merchant window that shows all 80 slots at once instead of having to scroll, but having to hold alt to peruse is annoying (mainly since I can't get the names to not overlap.)

So, WOOT, even though the resetting will be annoying...at least you CAN sort now.

This also means that Vendor-diving will be easier for the lazy... which means that it will be harder for the avid Vendor-diver to find good stuff.

I agree with Trellium. New window is very nice. Names are very nice. The resetting to the top with every purchase is highly annoying. 2 things they missed the boat on are:

                1) Still no indication of how many of a certain thing the merchant has until you actually buy it (if I'm wrong someone PLEASE set me straight cuz this annoys me).

                2) Vendor still has limited capacity of what they will show. Even on a low population server (and one up and down constantly), the common merchants get a fairly stagnant inventory pretty quickly.

So, thumbs up on the changes but need a few tweaks. Overall at least 2 still outstanding improvements.

Does that mean you get a choice to use either the old or new merchant UI? And not forced to use the new UI?

It needs a 'done' button!! (the little x or esc buttons just don't do it)

You can put the old merchant UI file in your custom UI folder, and you'll see merchants the old-fashioned way. I haven't tested this, but one person on the Sony boards mentioned they'd tried it.

I was using a modified merchant window and nothing was showing in inventory when browsing a trader, so I don't think that would work...

                            I like the new interface.

I also found that my custom UI vendor window no longer works. So until my UI gets a fix I will have to change to default when I want to buy/sell.

This will make buying spells a 10000 times better, haha. Only a plus for the lower level characters though.
