  • How to skill up begging?

I was searching the forum to see if there is any information about skilling up begging, and all I can find is people talking about paying out to the guildmasters. First of all, I don't have enough points left to train to the level I want to be at, and secondly, the warrior guildmasters don't seem to train begging. The posts I examined were over a year old...has that been taken away?

You skill up in begging the same way that you skill up in anything, go do it Guards and merchants in a newbie town are always a good place to start.

Begging from guards is ok, but remember they don't like it when you beg more than once. If you keep begging after a successful beg, they'll attack and probably kill you. By the way some guards, such as the ones in PoK, never give you anything.

It's much safer to beg from your pet. He never gives you anything, but remember you can skill up on failures, not just successes. You can beg from other people's pets too.

Or you can beg from the mobs you're fighting. You might have to turn off autoattack, beg, and turn it back on. They never give you anything either, but you might gain some skill.

The most I've ever gotten from begging a guard is one silver piece. Usually it's just a copper. I've heard legends of people actually getting a gold piece, but it's never happened to me.

Begging from pets was nerfed some time ago, I think. A couple years ago at least.

Will soulbinders agro when begged? They're designed to be totally non-combatant (down to having no hit points) so I wonder if they could safely be begged indefinitely.

Yes, Pet begging was nerfed, you can no longer gain skill that way.
Guards and Vendors are a risky beg target...

Personally, I suggest you make a key to beg while fighting... but only use it when your melee isn't critical to a fight.

          /attack off
          /doability #
          /attack on

This is fast enough without /pauses in it that you usually don't miss a swing, and you don't have to worry about aggroing a guard, because your target already hates you.

I used the magus in Abysmal Sea. Never aggro'd. I initially tried a luclin scion in Gfay, who did eventually aggro. Hit for something like 2300 too!

You can also get skillups from begging mobs REGARDLESS of their con color. I maxxed my begging (long after the pet begging was removed) off of greens that refused to aggro me because I was so much higher than they were. For reference, I begged off of Kerans in Kerra Isle. I was 65 at the time, I believe.

I integrated begging into my kick hotkey, losing about 2 dps in the process I guess...

Then went on for about a month or so like it wasnt there... fighting as usual.

Now its at 160... and havent decided to raise it anymore(needed it to 151 for a quest in GoD for FT3/15atk neck/waist piece)

Tie it to either your bash or kick or taunt hotkey if you're a melee.

Hotkey with the following lines for me, for taunting:

                  /doability 2 (taunt)
                  /doability 7 (disarm)
                  /attack off
                  /doability 8 (beg)
                  /attack on

That will give you a lot more aggro from your taunt hotkey.

Hotkey with the following lines for me, for bashing:

                  /doability 7 (disarm)
                  /attack off
                  /doability 8 (beg)
                  /attack on
                  /doability 9 (bash)

That will make more use of your begging skill every time you bash something.

This way you can have your begging automatically built into your taunt and bash attempts.

Furthermore, for tank types, if you tie the taunt hotkey to your autoattack hotkey, you can then always taunt/disarm/beg each time you initially attack something.

Taunting to increase aggro has been debunked as a myth. It can cause mobs to aggro you, but it won't increase hate.

.. and many warriors would agree....

on the other hand, begging to get hate i have no clue on.. but you will get skillups off mobs in combat.

My last points were from the scions in gfay, and karana.. had to do something waiting for them. They do hit hard (really freakin hard) if agroed, but i never had beg agro them. Soulbinders do work (never agroed), and the guards in bazaar (which never agroed either). The skeleton in the pot room in Tim Deep also works, and never agroed.. although going afk right before the poodle pops is very sucky timing (tm).

Beg also does increase off any con'ed mob, green, blue, red, chartruese... muave.. et al. Another favorite was the hobbit guards right in from misty thicket/rv... guards on both sides for the times you have to zone agro. (and, they're short....)

I'm pretty sure that almost no NPCs post Luclin (and maybe before) yield money on begging. I remember when I skilled up mine I never got jack from anyone except in Butcherblock and Thurg. Maybe I just had bad luck. The way I skilled up was beg Askr in BoT for hours while I was LFG back in the day. Eventually 200'd after probably 75 hours of begging.

                            Huh??

Why would you want this anyway? No practical use anymore.
