Problems Skilling Up

  • About 200 combines worth of 276+ alchemy material. Zero skill ups. Small sample, but when it's as hard as it is to acquire the material, it becomes very frustrating. I'd rant about it, but what I really should do is put my money where my mouth is and just cancel my subscriptions.

      What you should really do is tell THEM. Send /feedback, post on their forums, or email them. Yes, they sometimes read these boards, but you shouldn't count on that. Talking here is like talking in their general vicinity. And even if the guys here do hear you, it may be that they're not the ones with the power to change priorities to get what we want done sooner. Using the other channels that are designed for this kind of feedback may be much more effective for that kind of change. I can't say for sure, but since people expressing themselves on our boards hasn't helped visibly, it certainly seems worth a try.

      And mithridate, I didn't really intend to pick on you. You may have done these things already. The reminder just seemed timely.

      • I leveled an alt on test server from 25 to 28 and skill ups were working fine.
        234 smith, 212 jewelry, 212 brewing, 150 pottery, 200 poison

        • Annecdotal, but I did 60 combines of old school DE cultural robes (robe of the cyclone) last night and got 5 skillups, from 196-201. I hope I can keep up that 12 combines per skillup rate. = )

          • Well, I went back to Abysmal and tried another 100 combines of Unfired Sealed Poison Vial (triv 188). My skill is 174, and just for kicks I tried it without my geerlok. (Someone had a theory that (due to a bug) if the geerlok put my effective skill past the triv, there'd be no skillups. 174+geerlok is still under 188, but I tried it anyway.)

            I got ZERO skillups. Nada. None. This is just the capper on several sessions all of which have given me far fewer skillups than expected. I sent /feedback about it and concluded the feedback with my intention to give up tradeskills until I have some reason to think this problem has been fixed. (Though, being foolishly optimistic, I'm still xp-ing in Velks so I can collect silk for the fifth shawl.)

            • Did 16 more combines over lunch (5 robes of the cyclone and 11 robes of burnishing) and got 3 more skillups (202, 203, 204). Maybe the old school cultural robes have a better skillup rate than other things?

              • I got 8 smithing skill ups (242-250) with about 50 combines of Tae Ew Chain legs.

                  I believe there are still problems with the imp calculator. Two examples I experience in the last couple of days...

                  Freebie smithing quest in Abysmal Sea 0-31 took over 120 combines with 235 wis.

                  DoN half elf cultural smithing making items of 182 trivial from a base skill of 154 (+Geerlok) and 375 stength (wunshi and bard song). Result = 0 imps from 80 combines. This surely cannot be right!

                  • Ok, I just did 160 Jewelry combines (283 trivial with 292 modified skill). I got zero skillups and a LOT of failures (more than I've ever seen). As far as I'm concerned, the system 250+ is completely dorked. Peeps are posting here and posting on the Sony boards and I've yet to see a dev respond to the 250+ question.

                    As it stands now, this is just friggin useless. I ain't doing rare/expensive combines for sado-masochistic jollies. This isn't fun. This is just STUPID.

                    Ahh, I feel I little better now. At least I don't have the uncontrollable desire to burn down the SOE offices anymore.

                      • It strikes me that asking tradeskillers to tell developers if there are problems with the new formula is the wrong direction. Since a number of factors go into possibly altering our perception of how it works, i.e. int/wis, combine trivial, special items that should insure a 50% chance of increase, current level of skill. Why not simply run a log on all the fixed TS items, forages, brew barrels, looms, ovens and pottery wheels that would give the developers all this information so they can look directly at the formula and see what is broken. I would also run it on the cultural forages too to see if there is a difference there.

                        • 260 combines on sickles. Three skill ups. Yeah, sure there isn't something wrong with how this was presented to us. Next thing you know Sony will tell us that pigs do fly in RL. I know I was getting way more skill ups doing the same number of the same combines before the patch.

                            • JC is definitely bugged. I have only been working on tailoring and JC since the patch and then the "fix". I maxed JC out on my main before the patch that "smoothed out" the tradeskill progression. My alt enchanter has been stuck at 284 now in JC for a good 500 - 1000 combines with no skill ups after "the patch" and "the fix". I didn't bother to count, but I was doing a good 100 combines per sitting with NO SKILL UPS. This needs to be /bug reported from anyone who experiencing similar issues with JC.
