I agree they either need to make it 200 combines per skill up for 50pp store bought items or leave it at 20-30 with farmed items. I am sure they could even do a combination of this u can either dish out cash for slow skill ups to merchant or go farm it urself for faster skill ups. /sigh another 100 combines in fletching with 440 dex 355 int and no skill ups :/

Anyways, has the following been considered? If we're halfway through 250 to 300 on April 12, we may have to "eat up" what we gained from the OLD system, and thus, resulting in more combines needed than standard for the rest of the way to 300.

Just did 100 attempts at owlbear sandwich (trivial at 31) on my rogue with a wis of 100 and starting skill of 0. After the 100 attempts the baking skill was up to 5. Looks to me that the patch didn't fix the tradeskill problems.300 in baking, brewing, pottery, jewelcraft, smithing, tailoring and fletching. 300 poison making. 300 alchemy. 300 research. 300 tinkering. 3300 total!! I am also unconvinced that the problem has been fixed. I took my chanter alt with INT 204 and Baking skill zero to PoK after the servers had been up about an hour. I bought bunches of bat wings and frosting and combined them in a spit to make batwing crunchies (trivial 46). After 11 stacks (220 combines), I was at skill 43. I didn't think to record how many "wasted" combines I had after actually hitting skill 43, but I don't expect it's large enough to matter.
I plugged the relevant numbers into a spreadsheet along with the known old formulas. I took 1/skillup chance as the expected number of combines, and added them all up (including fractions, figuring they'll sort themselves out statistically) from skill 0 to skill 42. Depending on how hard Baking is intrinsically (i.e. Y=2, 3 or 4), it should have required somewhere between 74 and 148 combines to hit skill 43. This is well below 220...

skill up rate.
It looks like the patch did indeed fix the skill up problem. My preliminary findings hae put it back to the way it was , though i have only done about 200 combines.
I would give an exact count, however the server Crashed ( The Rathe), while I was in the middle of skilling up.
I went from a 35 skill to 80 skill in less than 200 combines. Where as it took me 800 combines to get from 0 to 35 skill before it.

Lol... yes it did. I did a few smithing combines and actually got three skill-ups from 144 to 147 with about 10 combines. I had stopped smithing when it crashed. (Rathe here too)Oonna Wynterbreeze - 61 Enchanter

1-168 in brewing lastnight so also can confrim that patch seems to have worked. Done in 2 hours (wis 255), seemed a bit quick (but im just a TSnoob, so maybe thats the norm). Going to get all my others up quick before they do another patch.

Result of first part of the jewelry freebie quest (simple clasp trivial at 31)
Done with 29 enchanter with 244 int and a starting skill of 0
Order of the numbers are:
stack number, success, skill ups, skill
1, 3, 5, 5
2, 8, 3, 8
3, 12, 3, 11
4, 9, 4, 15
5, 8, 2, 17
6, 8, 3, 20
7, 12, 2, 22
8, 11, 5, 27
9, 12, 4, 31 and trivial reached
10, 12, 0, 31
11, 13, 0, 31 and new recipe reached.
I sincerely doubt that the rng was responsible for this. In my opinion the
bug is still there.300 in baking, brewing, pottery, jewelcraft, smithing, tailoring and fletching. 300 poison making. 300 alchemy. 300 research. 300 tinkering. 3300 total!! Luclin server.

Post-patch (last night)
wisdom 255
155 brewing skill--75 brewing combines--zero skill ups.
159 conjuration--100 casts--two skill ups
other guildies 160+ alcohol tolerance--lotsa imbibing--zero skill ups.
Seems a little screwy.
These were all done in the guild hall. Is there maybe some kind of "prohibition" against skill ups in the guild hall? I didn't try outside the guild hall--maybe I'll try that tonight (but I so wanted to save my buffs).
Is it possible that they did something to the post-150 skill ups when they fixed the pre-150 skillups? Or are the post-150 skillups just always going to be this tought now (but I thought they made 160-190 *easier*?)?Last edited by Gareen; 04-21-2005, 07:24 AM.

Elfdruidess,
The other Dwarven smith was Snorfen. He was a bit ahead of me, and made many of the first Imbued Enchanted Dwarven Plate pieces. I remember his glee when he made is first Imbued Enchanted Dwarfen Cloak.
You may now return to your normally scheduled thread.

low-end skillups still seem broken
I saw the post that skillups were working again, so I decided to raise my Pottery from 122, aiming for 199 with Casseroles. I have WIS 255 and a geerlok. I did 403 combines, getting 192 successes (which is about right; par would be 190.6). I got only 30 skillups. (Under the old formula, assuming Pottery is difficulty 4, I'd expect to need 220 combines to get those 30 skillups.)
Under the old formula, at difficulty 4, I'd pass the first check 60% of the time on success, 30% on failure. So those 192 successes and 211 failures would pass the first check about 175-180 times. The second check would pass 39% of the time at skill 122, down to 24% at 152. So even if I'd been skill 152 the whole time, I'd have expected to get about 44 skillups on that run. Starting at 122, I would have expected to reach about 170. And that's the OLD formula; the new one is supposed to be easier in this range? Sure seems to me like something is still broken.
Note: I saw someone else speculate that possibly there's something about the Guild Hall that affects skillups. I was indeed in the GH for this.

Follow up--50 more combines. Still sitting at 155 skill. From purely anecdotal evidence, brewing is messed up.
