I have had the worst luck ever it seems. 253 combines on constitutionals at 299. ZERO skill ups. This is with a Geerlock and 405 wis.

I ask everyone to go buy some Blessed Water of your deity and sprinkle liberally around Norath. Let's hope this isn't working as intended because it isn't what the dev's thought was going to happen.
They thought skilling 250-300 would approach a 1 in 25 (4%) chance and that the 180-190 region would be a 15% to 20% chance for a skill up. What's showing up is far from these numbers and is a bit scarey.Last edited by gpofcore; 04-17-2005, 11:02 PM.234 smith, 212 jewelry, 212 brewing, 150 pottery, 200 poison

Tanker, the fact remains though that many tradeskillers are experiencing many more combines than the said "around 20% extra". Since what you have now is a flaw in lower level tradeskills (AND low level skills), people reporting in on seeing no change on the hell levels and people reporting in on a lot of trouble at high end combines as well, would it not then be a good thing to actually undo this tradeskill change if possible and place it under a lot more testing?
I appreciate that you guys are trying, since I guess that what you are in the end doing is modernizing the game system to make it stay alive a lot longer, but right now you have an upset player base, and a broken system. This makes neither you, nor us, happy.
Anyways, the one thing we need to see the most is communication. If something is broken, I know at least I would be happy to see some words on it and just an update about how long before a possible fix, or even something like "Lower level tradeskills are broken, the reasons for why they are this way, and something about time needed to fix" If you have no time to give us, I am sure many would appreciate even that info.
Now, I know Absor, Maddoc and you post here, and I truly appreciate that. one reason for that I believe is just because there is little cursing and cussing and one can actually keep a dialogue up. (Thanks Niami, Ngreth, Verdandi and any I might have forgot for that) Due to this I do have an idea: If you need any testing of tradeskills, ask the moderator here if you can request it from us at times in a forum. Here you have people that are well aware of tradesjkills, how they work, mechanics and everything. I also think that many would be willing to help out. As for costs in PP, there are recipes out there that are cheap that can be used, and in worst cases, hand out a few PP through GM's to cover costs for people that report in with numbers.
Just an idea.300 - Baking, Brewing, Pottery, Smithing, Jewelcraft
285 - Fletching
282 - Tailoring
Fishing 200, Research 200

Couldn't resist Nolrog…
Did a run on Saturday/Sunday (4/17).
105 combines at smithing. Skill 264, WIS 308. 99 Sickles and 6 pieces of Magnetic Amror (that were not trivial). Zero skillups.
Made me so depressed that I actually looked forward to going back to The Deep to finish killing the Thought Horrors that I had put off for a month.

Someone posted on the EQLive forums, that they were having problems with successes. They were 300 JC, with JCM 3 and failed something like 4/5 augments. While 5 combines is really not a large enough sample to make any conclusions on, it does make you raise your eyebrows and go Hmmm.

Just for reference, under the OLD formula for 250-300:
For worst case scenario with maxxed (255) stat, no secondary stat on tradeskill, Y=4, near-trivial combines:
34.188 attempts on average per skillup.
For best case scenario with maxxed (400) stat, with secondary stat on tradeskill, Y=2, near-trivial combines:
20.000 attempts on average per skillup.
So, 20% increase gives between 24 and 41.0256 attempts per skillup (on average.)

I have heard of 350+ brewing combines for skill 187 to 188 and 300+ smithing combines for skill 207 to 208 as well under the OLD system. These things happen within the OLD hell areas of 187 to 210. But definitely not as concentrated as it seems to be at this moment.

I and any other person who has gotten all 250+ will tell u that hitting a run of 200+ combines without a skill up from time to time is not abnormal but having hit 3 skill points in a row all having to do 180+ combines for each skill is not normal. I not always getting bad runs just something in the coding i believe is causing bad runs more offten then their should have. Since the change i have had around 8 runs of 150+ before getting skill up most of those 200+ and only gotten total of around 20-30 skill points in multi skills between 250 and 275.

Personally I have not been able to skill up with my Trophy equipped... everytime I have a run of 40s I take it off and I get like 4 skill ups in a row. This happend more than on 1 occurrance with Smithing and Tailoring. Im getting discouraged by all the posts of 200s 300s combines without a point. I would think that higher skill up is harder to get mass quantities to hit that 300 skill and shouldnt take more combines, getting the components should be enough time and money to warrent the skill points with a minimal increase i combines.. not spend a week farming items , do the 300 combines and get 2 skill up points. Just another time sink

Sorry to stir the pot. I was simply responding to Nolrog's assertion that we could talk once we got over 100. I should have been more obvious that I was posting mostly tongue in cheek.
That said, I took 239 Fine Plate Splinted Cloaks to go from 236 to 237 back in the day. This was during the Velious era, but mercifully after Folded Sheets of MQ Sheet Metal were made to stack. Long droughts are not new to me, nor are they very surprising.
On a happier note: I got my next skillup (265) while doing a few pieces of magnetic for sale in the bazaar. So my drought was officially 110 combines long.
