When is the "next patch" were the trivial changes will be put in place? I might have to head back to Hollowshade for more smithing upgrades before then../shudder.

So, in summary, there are three large changes coming to tradeskills:
1. Smoothing out the increase in the average number of attempts needed to produce a skill increase (coming with the next update).
2. Introducing a per-recipe minimum chance to gain a skill increase based on the effort and time required to get the components of the recipe (also coming in an update soon, but not the next one).
3. Changes to the trivials on many recipes in order to make the skill up and reward path more logical (coming in an update soon, but not the next one).
There probably is another patch then. The 6th Anniversary celebrations are likely to end on or around April 16, since they started on March 16.
Sir KyrosKrane Sylvanblade
Master Artisan (300 + GM Trophy in all) of Luclin (Veeshan)
Master Fisherman (200) and possibly Drunk (2xx + 20%), not sober enough to tell!
Lightbringer, Redeemer, and Valiant servant of Erollisi Marr
Thanks for the info, April 6th for the patch and April 16th for the end of fabled mobs sounds right.
Wow, I can't believe I'm considering going back to Hollowshade I guess if I tell myself I only need to skill-up from 243-260 and hope to someday get the VT +15% smithing mod I could do it...
Gotta admire the time/effort/plat put into the 300 skill levels some of you folks have. We won't even mention the crazies that are 2100.. If I can get close to 300 in one skill (smithing) I'll be happy with that.
Yeah, same here. I was glad to hit 300 in ONE skill. And it was seriously cutting into my time to do it (6 hours of smithing on a Sunday when I have things I should be doing!). Those who did 300 in all/multiple skills must really have a lot of work.
Update scheduled for April 6th has been re-scheduled
We know that there are a lot of changes in the upcoming update that all of us are looking forward to. Due to the complexity and the sheer volume of these changes, we'd rather not push these out too quickly and so we'll be moving the Update to next Tuesday. The repurcussions of these changes (removal of the fear cap, changes to direct damage spells, new item effects, and others) are widespread and impact many systems. We are not comfortable pushing these changes live without further testing. We'd like to encourage all of you to please spend time on our Test servers and submit any bugs or feedback as you see appropriate. The Test Server patch message will contain more details about the changes and what to check out.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

From the 4/5/05 Test Server Update Message on the EQ Live Forums:
*** Tradeskills ***
We have changed the chance to gain a skill up when using tradeskills. Previously there was a large increase in the average number of combines needed for a skill increase for skill values of 160 through 190. This made sense when 200 was the skill cap. We have changed the algorithm to remove the harsh spike in combines required for skill ups from 160 to 190, making it a more reasonable to increase all the way up to 300. For more details please see the post here: http://eqforums.station.sony.com/eq/...essage.id=5800
- Alabaster Beak and Ivory Stormrider Canine are now marked as usable in tradeskills.
- Dragons of Norrath brewing items now drop off NPCs. They were only available through foraging before.
- Added the race name to the Unfired Cookie Cutters. New item names are: Unfired Barbarian Cookie Cutter, Unfired Gnome Cookie Cutter, Unfired Troll Cookie Cutter and Unfired Animal Cookie Cutter.
- Added the recipes for four cookie cutters for Luclin beasties. The sketches and molds should be easily found on vendors.
- Added the appropriate effects to Dragons of Norrath potions.
- The recipe for dough made from Rock Hopper Egg now uses Rockhopper Egg. It turns out that there were two items with similar names, but the one used in the recipe doesn't drop in game.
- Removed the recipe for chain jointing that was used in Planes of Power armor. This recipe was removed because the jointing is no longer used in any recipes.
- You will now only need to collect half the number of items for the level 65+ Vah Shir racial armor pattern book quest.
The retentiveness in me is forcing me to point out (sorry) that in EQ2, the tradeskilling system is completely different. You level up just like any other class, but instead of getting XP for killing something, you get XP for crafting items. You learn the recipes by purchasing the recipe books. You gain the extra XP when you make your first pristine of each item (there are 4 qualities of the combines, from crude to pristine.)
I to like this idea... but perhaps instead giving an increased chance of getting a skillup instead consider giving a chance for 2 or even more skillups. One method to implement this would be: If a new recipe is learned, and a skillup is earned then you get a chance for a second skillup. This could be repeated until either no repeat skillup is earned, or your skill reaches an items trivial level. The chance of getting say 3 skillups from one combine would be incredibly small, but with all the tradeskillers out there it would happen to some of them.
Combining this with a small to modest increase in skillup chance would certainly provide extra incentive to try out new recipes vs. grinding.
Another thought is giving a small (1-5%?) chance of getting a skillup for learning a new recipe that is already trivial. Caution might be needed to prevent the hoarding of unlearned recipes for those skillup hell levels.
Just how about a chance of ~5% each time you learn a new recipe above your skill of a skill up, potentially getting 2 skill ups for a single combine. Would give me reason to carry on making all the different PoP armour with my new main this time.
