    Small update:

Salvage 2, 125 fails. 656 total components, with 98 saved. Works out to 14.9%. I think its safe to say that its a 15% savings on a per component basis.

      agreed

Yes thats what im assuming world containers are the issue though today i did some dye combines and the items went back into my inventory but i was not in experiment mode. Also i have seen the bugged salvage... solstice robes i started with 90 swatches 2 chains and finished last night with 7 robes and 5 chains... all the chains were salvaged from fails... talked with a gm and he said yes its a bug but just to use them since i didnt try to exploit the system. Other than weird bugs i am getting the salvage message alot on items that are above my trival but on dyes and such i had about 15 fails skill at 252 trival 122 and i only salvaged 1 water in those 15 fails. And my tailoring is only up to 207 last one for my earring since i am gmed baking and 245 in fletching.

Just to clarify, there are 2 issues atm.

1 ) When you do a combine that fails, and the recipe has an item returned on failure (smithing hammers, files, solstice chains, gemcutters, etc) the salvage can work on the returned item resulting in getting 2 of the items. I started with 2 gem chains, and many many many combines later had 15 robes and 5 chains.

2 ) There appears to be an issue with stationary containers and salvage. If an item (non-stackable) is salvaged, the program seems to get confused as to where the salvaged items are and can result in a Crash To Desktop. The workaround is to close and reopen the container after each salvage.

Also, to clarify the salvage skill, at rank 2 it gives a 15% chance to save on each component on each fail. So lets say you fail a Sylvan Dye (berry + water), you have a 15% chance to save the berry, and a 15% chance for the water. These checks are independant, meaning you can save neither, 1, or both. Compare this to failing a Minotaur Brew. With 9 components, you have a 15% chance on EACH component.

Actually i was crashing even if the items salvaged were stackable or non stackable.

            loving Salvage3!!!

I'm loving Salvage3! What I've found is that Salvage gives you a chance to save up to a number of components equal to your skill level, ie. up to 2 components with Salvage2, and 3 components with Salvage3. Latest statistics are as follows.

            Wisdom 380 (current max)
Tailoring skill 188 to start, 192 at end
            Geerlok
            Tailoring Mastery 3
            Salvage 3

Combine attempted was Othmir Fur Caps, triv 262
Components (5) are 1 silver thread, 1 vial of clear mana, 2 othmir furs, 1 cap pattern

            Number of combines: 110
            Total number of fails: 28
Number of fails with 0 items recovered: 6
Number of fails with 1 item recovered: 12
Number of fails with 2 items recovered: 6
Number of fails with 3 items recovered: 4

            Items recovered:
            9 threads
            20 furs
            5 patterns
            2 vials

What's interesting is that I only had components enough for 93 combines to start, but with the number of components saved (and buying a couple of extra patterns), I was able to do 110 combines with enough supplies still for a couple more. That means that Salvage3 enabled me to get roughly 20% more combines from the same batch of supplies. A big money/time saver, especially for farmed stuff like the furs!

I've managed to salvage 4 items off a failed ceremonial robe with only salvage 2. Its not capped, its just a flat x% per component.

Seems 15% on salvage 2 for me, and from your limited run, 25% on salvage 3.

I LOVE THIS AA!! Having said that let me elaborate.

I recently did a major skill up in the dreaded tailoring. I had a skill of 223. I had 220 arctic wyvern hides - 220 velium studs - 220 cod oil - 220 mask patterns. I won't go into all the hours it takes to farm the velium for 220 studs (I didn't buy a single piece BTW) and to fish up 220 Cobalt Cod (they are never for sale ).

                I have salvage skill 2.

I did not keep track of specific events but I managed to salvage enough materials to do and extra 20 combines!! I did 240 combines - not 220. I also had enough oil and hides to do another 7 combines (just need to get a few more studs). Awesome AA. Needs to be mandatory for any serious TSer.

I managed to get to 236 in tailoring and finish the Aid Grimel earring.

Well, the salvage problem still exists, as of just minutes ago. I was trying to learn the solstice robe recipe, so I was in experiment mode. When I got the message that I salvaged a silk, it did not appear on my cursor, nor did it appear in my inventory, even after closing the loom, and re-opening it.

Also, the second time I got booted to desktop, I did not even have a chance to close the loom, it just booted me.

And to had insult to injury, the first time it booted me to desktop, I had the gem studded chain on my cursor. When I got back the chain was gone, and I had one silk on my cursor. So even though I got the message for salvaging 3 silks, I got only one (after getting booted to desktop), and the game ate one of my chains.

When I get back on, I am going to try the combines in my Coldain Sewing Kit and avoid the loom, at least until I learn the recipe.

I have noticed problems when using the fixed in game items like the loom. I do almost all my skill ups on the items I carry though.

To get the items back, when using a loom, I have close the loom and reopen it to get the items.

Does a successful salvage give a message to members in the group of the person doing the combine?

I've salvaged saps from failed attempts at curing agents, and yesterday I salvaged the Black Gold Ingot from an Inlay attempt that I failed (grr..). Sure wish I'd salvaged that Scoraie instead..

The fact that it doesn't announce to the group that you salvaged something could mean a serious influx of scammers. Most of us who are GM's aren't going to be the problem. The problem will be that people with lower skill, will buy the Salvage AA's and offer their "services" to people who need expensive combines done. Eventually (sooner rather than later, I'd guess) they'll get some nice stuff heh.

I've had 24 percent component recovery with Salvage 3. Tested on Kaladim Constitutionals. 151 recoveries on 623 potential recoveries.

                                Salvage 2, 109 of 758, roughly 15%
                                Salvage 3, 187 of 763, roughly 25%

                                Pretty decent results.
