  • 252 cap gone?

One of the paladins at Paladins of Norrath who was in the OoW beta said that after he hit level 66 some of his skills started going up - weapon skills, offense, defense, etc. Our defense had been at the hard coded cap of 252. He specifically said that it now went higher.

My feeling is that I doubt they made such a drastic altering of the basic skills structure (one that has been in game since release) to only melee skills. This is all supposition on my part, but what if that hard coded 252 cap no longer existed for tradeskills also? I'm not saying that we'd be able to pass 250 through skill ups, BUT what about % mods? Currently, if you're at 250 in a skill you're capped at 252 even with a 5% mod. If that cap wasn't there, you're modified skill would be 262. With a 10% mod it'd be 275. With a 15% mod it'd be 287.

If it does work this way, it may be an unintended aspect of the melee skill adjustments. At his point, who knows? I just wanted to point out something that could potentially affect all of us.

Since they allowed regular stats (Str, wis, etc) to go past 255 with PoP, its evident they have some mechanism for going past 255 with previously capped quantities. Their change of the skills cap doesn't seem that unexpected to me, given PoP's precident. Since they haven't yet done that with tradeskills yet, I'm assuming either 1) its still too difficult given aspects of the tradeskill engine, or 2) they haven't worked out the appropriate impact of post-252 skill levels.

I believe it is more of the latter. If they do raise the cap on tradeskills, it will be a "feature" in an expansion, rather than a result of a level increase or something like that.

Interesting quesiton, i never though to check that in beta. But, since beta is still up, just logged in and looked.

Still shows 252 as my effective skills with 250+5%. So, thats either a no, or its a display bug, but probably a no.

Also just did 200 combines of shadewood bows for the hell of it to see if i could get past 250, didnt get a skill up. Not conclusive proof, but its probably a no as well.

while testing on beta, yes my weapon skills went up with leveling, but no my tradeskills did not rise through the large number of combines i was doing. now we all know that trying to get a skill up can take sometimes hundreds of combines (my record 453 combines to raise pottery 1 point) to advance imo you will not see the tradeskill cap raise from 250 (252 mod)

          i could be wrong *shrug*
