Noted in the EQ live forums Link to EQlive forum thread ....the above text quoted from the OOW Homepage states OOW will have new tradeskills, previous expansions have stated there would be new tradeskill recipes ....

Interesting........probably a typo, but one can hope

That's only because that text didn't go through my desk before it hit the web. Assume the word "recipes" is in there.

I figured it was something like that. Ah well.

Still, if SOE is so willing to keep raising the level caps every few expansions, a new tradeskill shouldn't be that daunting, should it?

The thread on EQlive mentioned a few ideas...from the pen & paper EQRPQ there was Calligraphy (would complement Research, possibly), someone suggested Horticulture...how about Mining....

      Anyone else have some ideas?

Personally, I'd like to see poison updated first. (See plenty of other posts on the subject.)

However, for a totally new tradeskill..

Woodworking. Can make bow staves, figurines, plank of wood (ok, ok I am dreaming on this one), and other wood related items.

                New Trade Skill Ideas

For possibilities in trades, one should consider what folks in medieval eras did and needed, and what's already in game. So, starting with:

                Alchemy
                Baking
                Brewing
                Fletching
                Jewelcrafting
                Poisonmaking
                Pottery
                Research
                Smithing
                Tailoring
                Tinkering

Some others, more or less esoteric, could be:

                Mining
                Carpentry
Artistry (painting, sculpting, illuminating and calligraphy)
                Glassworking
Agriculture (botany, farming, gardening and special things like growing fungus all fit here)

Some that were suggested might not be that helpful, although imagination can be applied. Writing as a skill doesn't produce much in terms of in-game content. Masonry can't be used for much of anything portable. Still, fletching is "limited" as a skill, but still there's plenty to do, so that's not to say either of these has no place at all.

I've often wished for a landscaping skill so I could remove various trees, rocks and other offensive and horribly ugly terrain from areas. Really, those Kunark forests would look fabulous with fewer trees, some shrubs and maybe a nice swimming pool and a jacuzzi!

For horticulture skill, I can see it now. One of the major quests involved with it will be to get... a Shrubery!!! Quest text...

Go and find a shrubery. Then bring [it] here. Ack! I said it. Awwwhh I said it again!

I personally don't think we need a new tradeskill. Just more high end wearable armor would be nice. PoP had nice stuff, but what's in GoD*?

(*unless there's high end recipes that have yet to be discovered, GoD TSs are kinda boring imho).

Even PoP elemental stuff - other than silk, the drop rate is so low you're either going to farm it for yourself, friend or guild, or nothing. Can't make any profit selling component-purchased items in the bazaar since they cost more than the resell value.

But, I digress. Thanks for the clarification, Absor. =)

personally i would just like to see them convert from byte (8bit) to 16 bit for tradeskills cap even if they did it like they did for stats and allowed you to take AAs to increase cap to a certain level.....

While I don't think we're actually getting a new tradeskill, if we did I would like to see one that created tradeable charms. Perhaps drawing from the same supplies from jewelcrafting and pottery, a charm artisan can finally make and sell charms available to people of all levels.

We have people that can make armor, weapons, spells, food, items, poisons, potions, and gizmos. The only thing tradeskills have not yet touched are charms and augments as far as I can figure. I can't see them ever touching augment tradeskills without indirectly removing the need to do ldons for points (why do 30 ldon missions when you could buy a crafted augment in the bazaar, for example?), so that leaves the ability to make charms open for tradeskillers. I don't see many sub-45 people running around with nice charms, and most 46+ people use the wooden figurine, so some variety would be nice.
