If it is funny knowing a joke is a joke ahead of time does not make it less funny.

If that were so people would not go to watch stand up comedy knowing they were going to be told jokes.


If your intent is to tell a joke it should not matter that I know its supposed to be a joket. If you intent is to represent what you are posting as factual information, which is not telling joke, Then yes puting a disclaimer would spoil that.

You are missing the point of April Fool's Day pranks.

On April Fool's Day, the point isn't to "tell jokes." The point is to completely sucker someone with a prank. It needs to be as convincing as possible, and well, advertising it to start with wouldn't work.

Whoever wrote this patch message did their prank extremely well. Kudos. If anyone was gullible enough to fall for it, tattoo a big G in your sig file and get over it.

How does someone sucker anyone else with a fake patch message on April 1st though? What ditz would actually read the first line of it and not say to themselves "Oh good, here comes another fake patch message on April Fool's Day. Yawn. The first of 30 I will probably have to wade through to get to a real post."

No, I'm not some stuffy, anal person. I'm a fun guy. What I don't get is all the people that say "You really had me going until...". I mean, you're kidding, right? Please tell me you're kidding. The fake patch message on April 1st had *me* going right up until...oh wait, no, it never had me going. I knew it was fake when I saw the subject line.
