LOL, I don't even believe message-board-posted patch messages on regular days, much less April 1st, until I get home and see it for myself

Personally I could do without these false patch messages. They are the source of way too much misinformation and rumor spreading. Its hard enough to beat down the misinformed espouting their jiberish without things like this adding fuel to the fire.

If you do feel the need to do this kind of thing please make sure to plaster in big read letters at the top THIS IS A JOKE AND IS NOT REAL or some such disclaimer.

Although with most people's reading comprehension skills these days, I doubt even that would be effective. And no I did not buy into it as I knew there was no patch to begin with.

Anyhow if they were works of fiction on a fictiion writers storyboard somewhere or in a forum labled humor I would find them mildly amusing but in my book they have no place on sites that are supposed to be there to help educate people about the game and provide accurate information.

Its a pet peeve of mine so you'll have to forgive me if I don't join in the mirth making.

Er, maybe the non-Americans didn't get it.

            Borblefoot,

Perhaps you are a non-U.S. person who is not familiar with our peculiar tradition of April Fool's Day (April 1st). On April Fool's Day, it is traditional to either perpetrate or be the perpetratee of practical jokes. Yes, perhaps it is just a stupid Yank thing, but a lot of us don't have cable, so we have to make our own fun. But for future reference, be suspicious of anything you hear or read on April 1st. (This morning my local radio station had me going for a full hour on their breaking news story that U2 and REM had decided to swap lead singers. I was really straining to imagine Michael Stipe belting out "In The Name Of Love" before I realized the date and gave myself a good /bonk.)

It is not just the US who do April Fool's, the UK has it as well.

I was at work at the time so couldn't confirm there was a patch but didn't think there was one. Still, had me believing it to begin with nice work.

Didn't want to skewer the innocent

I wasn't sure so I left it out. I didn't say "North Americans" either so that the Canadians could have plausible deniability.

The sad part is that there ARE joke patches that spawn rumors and misinformation... heh.

Anyway, I figured it was fine since my post was after people would have read your message, and I didn't want anyone getting really upset. Hope you don't mind too much.

Then you spoil the joke. The trick is to get people going crazy first, and then tell them it's a joke. You don't tell them, this is a joke first, becuase then they won't go crazy.

fyi... some info on the history of April Fool's Day

The origin of April Fool's Day dates back to when the world was changing the begining of the year from the start of spring (March 21ish) to Jan 1. It was customary to leave adornments on your house at the start of the year. Those people who still had them up by the start of April, now more than 3 months after the start of the year, were referred to as April Fools.

April 1 used to be the "New Year" (still is considered the start of the fiscal year). When the Calendar was changed to make January 1 the "New Year", those who still celebrated on April 1st were considered "April Fools" and mocked heavily.
