  • "I wish I'd known that sooner!"

I'm pondering either starting a "hint of the week" post on the front page, or possibly a master listing for the Learn section that contains such hits. (Or both)

What I'm thinking of is the sort of stuff that you learned the hard way (that still apply in the current way of doing tradeskills) that you'd like to pass on to others to save them time, money and much frustration.

To start it off, here's one from a raiding cleric last year - I got reminded of it yesterday when someone else made the same error ...

For any recipe that requires a loaf of bread, you do NOT have to bake your own bread. The bread sold on vendors is exactly the same as what you can make, and can be used in all recipes that require bread.

Can folks come up with some others that are famous/infamous for making you go "d'oh!"?

Took me a year to figure out that holding down the ALT key while a cursor was over any sort of inventory (vendor, mob, or my own, spell list...) would pop up with what the items are.

I am sure everyone knows it but I didn't for a really long time

It didn't occur to me to leave the jumjum cake unsliced until I needed it. Bang - a bank full of jumjum cake slices. (What was I thinking?)

Rallic Pack final combines are LORE.

Collapsed tradeskill items are all LORE. So no getting rich because someone sold a mess of Collapsed mixing bowls to a vendor and you can buy them for 1c - they're LORE, you spoony Bard!

Golden Black Pearl Chokers look exactly like Gem Studded Chains

Any container that does NOT have a WR% on it will not be convertible to a token via Caerlyna. Example: Deluxe Sewing Kits.

Celestial Essences now use a Mixing Bowl.

Some spells are LORE when researched. Example: Levitation and Everlasting Breath.

Ctrl + click = one item
Shift + click = full stack

          Heh

250 in brewing with a trophy! All other trade skills? /sigh don't ask.

The celestial essence recipe using vendor sold The Scent of Marr... . Don't know how I missed it but when a rogue friend told me about it I almost cried.

Well, for things that took me a long time to learn,
              Vendor diving
              CTRL-Click
              Shift-Click
              1PP = 10GP = 100 SP = 1000CP
You could access your inventory from ANY bank (this one jump started my TS career!)
              Don't destroy gems
(Before they stacked) 1 spider silk + 1 spider silk in a sewing kit = 1 stackable watch (no fail!)
(Before they stacked) 1 spiderling silk + 1 spiderling silk = 1 silk thread (no fail!). DO NOT USE THEM TO MAKE BANDAGES!

              The powers of the backstab

              Pre-patch

Make sure you're using an oven and not a forge.
Make sure you have your fletching kit open and not the sewing kit.
Make sure you have your Feri'Dal flethcing kit open and not the regular one.
              Don't stack the ingredients.

Make sure you don't go exp grinding with all your WIS gear on..
Don't auto-inventory bags when your inventory is full
Don't put that rare food-forage item you need in a top inventory slot (munch munch munch)

              Lately,
Make sure you have your collapsed (container) on your pointer instead of the collapsible before clicking destroy
              Turn off quick-destroy

As a melee, I have one big one.

When done crafting and going farming/raiding/exping, don't forget to re-equip your weapon! That dragon/orc pawn/whatever will NOT be intimidated by your geerlok and baking spoon! Believe me, I know.

Never destroy or sell an unknown item until you research it. Never, ever, ever. You may sell a fortune for a gold and some silver.

THAT is a good hint !! Made the very same mistake and had lots and lots and lots of slices. Not to mention filleted mammoth meat. If i just had know the yields earlier i wouldnt have spent hours and hours to farm mammoth meats.
