  • Info from Tanker (Developer) re: new UI

Because this was posted within another thread here and thus somewhat hidden, I'm putting this info up for viewing. Tanker (SoE Developer for those not familiar) nicely dropped by and clarified a few things for us with regard to the new UI.

    --Myrron

Reposted from within another thread (Link ):

    one more time:

    1. Recipe's marked AutoLearn in the database will automatically show up when you have a skill >= (trivial - 50) and you perform a search which the recipe matches.

    2. Searches can only return 100 recipes. If a recipe is not being found, and you know it's AutoLearn, then restrict your search by limiting the trivial's involved, or entering part of the name of the recipe (usually the name of the item created). Note that there's a text message displayed in chat when you hit 100 recipes on a search, telling you this.

    3. Recipe's marked CanLearn in the database will not show up in the recipe list until you perform one successful combine of that recipe in the old interface (experiment). After you have been notified that you've learned the recipe, you can then search for it in the new UI, and use it to perform combines. If you successfully perform a recipe combine in the old UI and don't get the "you have learned" message, then you either already have the recipe due to it being AutoLearn and within range of yoiur skill, or it is not marked CanLearn (for now, that may change later, of course, but then you'll have to "learn" it after it's changed).

So, if you tried it in Experiment mode and were successful, but didn't learn it, then check again to see if you can search for it by name (it might be autolearn). if not, then you can't learn it right now.

    4. Marking said recipes AutoLearn and CanLearn is a work in progress. A lot of recipes can (and probably will) get marked as one or the other in the near future.

    5. All data about what recipes you "know" is stored on the server, as is the recipe data. You can't find it on your client side... it's not there.

    6. Some people want to switch the Right-click/Ctrl-right-click functionality of Tradeskill containers. Just click the "Use CtrlRClick" button on the new UI, and regular right-click will open the container in the old, bag-style; you'll have to Ctrl-right-click the bag to bring it up in the new UI.

Hope that helps. I won't be responding to requests for this recipe or that to be marked CanLearn/AutoLearn. I don't do the marking, I don't make the decisions. I would suggest compiling a list here on EQTraders somewhere and submitting it through Niami after a while.

Excellent! Thank you for anticipating and answering so many of the questions I had about the new UI.

By the way, as far as I am concerned the new Tradeskill UI is a solid hit. Great work. It's a HUGE step forward.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned anywhere, but my collapsible medicine bag is not learning recipes even though I get the message 'You have learned the recipe blah blah'.

I destroyed the collapsible and bought a regular medicine bag and the recipe WAS in the list.

Went back to my collapsible medicine bag and the recipe was NOT on the list.

To actually USE the new UI...

Do a 'Find" on the recipe you are looking for.

Click on that recipe in the list.

on the right your "container" will fill with what is needed. Green outline means you ahve the item you need. Red outline meeans you do NOT have an item you need anywhere in your personal inventory.

If everything is green. CLick combine... and voila you have your item. The "autoinventory" button will let you drop the item in the first available inventory space.

if you prefer to use the old way or the item is not in the list, click "experiment". If you are in the experiment mode, and you see a message "you have learned XXXXXXXX" (Where XXXXXXXX is a recipe) THen you will later be able to 'find' that recipe in the list in the future.

Aditionally... if there is a recipe that the new UI knows, when you select it you can add it to a favorites list. In this way... when you first open the container, it will already be in the list with no searching needed.

Some of the tradeskill combiners appear to have been missed. My Erudite Sewing Kit (which I've had in my inventory for ages, even though I've never created any cultural), for instance, didn't display any recipes when I checked.

No big deal for me (since I generally carry a Coldain Tanner's Kit, and that lists the recipes), but it might be a good idea to go over the containers one more time and make sure that they all list the proper recipes.

I couldn't really find a suitable place to put this little observation about one of the new UI oddities we noticed.

First I'd just like to say that on the whole I love the new UI, and I love the Queen of Thorns and the tradeskill quests there, which by the way are an excellent way to familiarize yourself with using the new combine methods.

The oddity though - my partner and I both use 10 slot toolboxes for storage. He's a barb shaman and I'm a woody dru. If we open a toolbox carried on our persons, it opens to the new UI even though we aren't gnome tinkers, which may or may not be odd, but the UI shows HIS TINKERING SKILL LEVEL as 250 (I got shafted, it only shows mine as 200!!).

Presumably there are no tinkering combines either of us can do, although we haven't tried them. (smile)

Not sure if this is right place to reply...

Is there a thread running anywhere for posting 'issues' with the new UI ?

Just noticed last night using a Forge.
It always opens using the new UI, even if you ctrl+click it.

Tried opening it and setting the 'open with ctrl...' button and had no effect.

Also, 'metal bits' arn't on the list

                    In reply to Kemie

                    Hi Kemie:

As far as the UI showing your tinker skill as 250/200, I can't explain ).....but any box/bag/loom/etc, regardless of your skill or ability to skill in it, will auto open to the new interface (unless bugged). If you look at Myrron's post, it shows you how you can change the control+rclick to the ui and allow the rclick to just open the bag/box/whatever again. It drove me nuts at first too ....to the point that I logged on my mule, grabbed a stack of hq rockhopper pelts/stack of backpack patterns and commenced <a-makin'> me some homemade backpacks to replace what deluxe toolboxes I was still carrying, or even had in the bank (had I come here first, maybe I would have saved myself some discomfort/stress/tooth grinding ) and sold or destroyed every single one I posessed (after several checks to make sure they were absolutely empty....not that I've EVER destroyed a box/bag full of valuables before ).

I'd also like to add; I'm not exactly sure what the limitations are, but I believe that ANYONE of any class, race, religion, hair color,teeth/tooth color, etc can do tinkering combines. You can not "learn/increase skill" in it, unless you are a gnome of course, but you can do at least some combines. For instance: I have made collapseable fishing pole's and animated bait with a dwarven paladin, which are low triv (around 40 something?) tinker combines. I had a gazillion or so failures, but hey, the stuff was cheap and it got me by until I created a Guh-Nome-buh, to whom it is trivial at level one, and spit them out as fast as I wished. So.....yes! you can tinker! woo hoo! ( I just wouldn't count on a successful combine of a Gnomish Vanishing Device with your Wood Elf Druid anytime soon )

I'm sure that all the little irritations and quirks in the system will one day disappear like platinum in the bazaar, but until then we must be diligent in our quest to bring these evil monstrosities to light! (ok...I got a "tiny" bit carried away ) , grit our teeth (mouth pieces can be purchased at your local sporting goods store ), and show them that "we got skeelz".

P.S. I'll have to go visit the guy who sells deluxe toolboxes in POK and buy one of my trade in's and check out what skill it tells me I have in tinkering

                      reply to ThirdDay...

Well, maybe. But no mortar and pestle (not vendor purchased or collapsible) will open with the new UI. This has been commented on elsewhere as a royal pain considering the number of regular tradeskill recipes for non-rogues that use celestial essence.

                        Thanks

I haven't actually done any mortar and pestle combo's, so I will certainly take your word for it...and am sure there are lots of bugs out there. I was humbled by the simplicity of how to change the control/RCLICK switch. I literally wasted 12 or 13 hq hopper pelts to replace the deluxe toolboxes when I first came on after the new expansion, because I hated the ui popping up when I needed something out of a box lol :O) and it always seemed to be something I needed quickly. One of the deluxe boxes I caried, had all my sow potions, gates, damage shield potions, etc in them....things as a Pally, that I use quite often....so it was really frustrating...but instead of patiently waiting to see what could be done, I went out and got rid of all the boxes lol :O) Sure....I don' t need every bag to carry giant items, and the 10% reduction on the handmade packs is nice, but I think I over reacted a bit :O)

I'm sure that S.O.E. appreciates when we help them out with bug issue's, though...and I will gladly toss a bug report in there with yours on anything you may find. The more we make them aware, the quicker they will respond. I doubt if they care much about a lone cry in the wilderness, but when the masses congregate and the Sony steps, with picket signs in hand...well....I think their eyes and ears turn our way at that point :O) I will do my part and you obviously are doing yours ;O) good to see so many people who care out there :O) be well!

But, that dosen't help anyone else.
Was wondering if there was a consolidated thread running so that if anyone has a problem with the UI thay can look at the thread and see if it is a problem anyone else is also having.

                              cultural forges

Just FYI my experience so far with the UI is that normal forge combines will not show up on Cultural forge UI menus. I was in neriak and working on Adamantite when I discovered this. I freaked when I clicked show favorites and all my LDoN recipes had poofed.
