    Return of the Casino
    ------------------------

    ** Play King's Court in Shadowhaven! **

Shandeling's Roost in Shadowhaven again houses a game of chance. To play you will need to buy a King's Court Token. You then take this token and turn it in to any of the dealers. Based on what your hand turns out to be, you will be awarded a prize. The highest hands will return a gold ticket as the prize. This Ticket can be turned in to win prizes such as a Guise of the Deceiver, Fungus Covered Great Staff, or Holgresh Elder Beads. Good luck to all that play!

    Tradeskill UI now live
    ------------------------

Opening a tradeskill container will now open a new user interface. In the window you will find an area that has all recipes that are currently available to you. This includes recipes that are at your skill level as well as some above it. Clicking on a recipe will display what items are necessary for its completion. Clicking the "combine" button will extract those required items from the player's inventory, and perform the recipe combine, placing the results on the player's cursor. The new system is nice and neat, with no dragging and dropping unless you want to try a combine that is way out of your league, which uses the old style of combination.

    Item Changes
    ------------------------
    - The name of Berserker armor has been changed to Bladesmans armor.
    - The beastlord epic weapon will no longer "proc" for wielders below the 46th level.
    - Many text changes in item descriptions.

    General Bug Fixes
    ------------------------
    - A Tormentors hoof is now flagged as a tradeskill item.
    - Chaotic Stab, a rogue AA, will no longer cause full damage on frontal attacks.
    - Altered some NPC factions in the Plane of Tactics arena to prevent a problem with charm.

    Combat Abilities
    ------------------------
    - Fixed some text on the Focus Will Discipline.
    - Assassins Strike should now work correctly.
    - Sneak Attack should now work correctly.
    - Thief's Vengeance is now working correctly.
    - Indirection should now work as intended.

    Spells
    ------------------------
    - Corrected a few spell descriptions.
    - Corrected some spell sound effects.
    - Arachnae Venom and Fellspine should now stack with the warriors provoke abilities.

The best part is where, even after the numerous "Fixes" to charm, they STILL put in a fix to the factions involved. *snicker*

    But YAY for the casino.

I have only just "found" nedaria's landing. Did a few of the quests there and farmed plenty of pelts

I hope they don't lose all those lovely animals, but will be nice to see what they have done to it.

Any mention of the Guardian of K'arnon's return? Or whether the alternate path to the phylactery was a "bug," backdoor exploit or semi-legit?

Let the claims "The sky is falling!!!!" begin.

How about tradeskills being enjoyable instead of tedious?! Repeat after me: "This is a good change, this is a good change."

Forget it, Faelorn. You're working against the "I hiked uphill in the snow ten miles to school every day and **** it, everyone should have to do that too" crowd. No matter WHAT thing they do to tradeskills, someone will whine about it.

Remember when LoY came out? People whined about LoY ribbons being too "easy". People bitched when LDoN came out and the LDoN armor and enchanted velium bits now erased having to do shadowscream and cultural and acrylia to 222. People screamed when casks were stackable (now EVERYONE would become a GM brewer!!).

Chicken Little's gonna be running his legs off for awhile, and then he'll calm down. Besides, everyone will be too busy running around with their berserker twinks to care about becoming a GM in anything for awhile.

I welcome the new Trade Skill feature. I can appreciate the old school ways because I’m an old school player myself, however this was something I think beneficial to the game. Remember you can still do it the traditional way for those incline to do so.

Perhaps the newer players won’t appreciate it as much and perhaps this may encourage tread mill style trade skillers, but it will still take effort and the combines will still be rough 190+, so this will weed out the wannabes.

Sorry, but I'm one of those who don't think that the new UI is going to be a godsend. Yes, it's going to take the tedium out of tradeskilling. Yes, it's going to get people to stop complaining about RMSIs. No, it's probably not going to cause a flood of n00bs who're suddenly GMing everything (other than brewing), because despite the fact that the combines are easy, the farming is still boring. There are a couple of things it does do, though.

First, I HATE the idea of that massive freakin' window opening just because I open a tradeskill container. Why? Because as it happens, I carry a collapsible tradeskill container with me at all times. And not just so that I can do combines while I'm on the road. It's also so that I have a container I can always destroy if I have to, say, click my star of eyes, or if I'm doing a quest where the NPC is going to give me a container to combine their stupid pieces in because SoE couldn't figure out some other way to prevent MQing. Also, I spent a lot of time getting all my container windows lined up, so that I can move my inventory around the way I like to, and now, I can't. Oh, and let's not forget all those people who have their banks full of deluxe toolboxes because they happen to be a cheap 10-slot giant container. And yes, I realize that only the first one opened causes the tradeskill UI window to open. But I don't want ANY of them to do that unless I specifically ask for it to happen.

Also, it takes the sense of accomplishment out of tradeskilling. How can ANYONE feel as though they've done something special, when all they've done is click on ONE BUTTON over and over and over, or, worse yet, if all they did is program their SpeedPad to do it for them? How can anyone expect any respect from their fellow players if they skilled up that way? And don't give me the "STFU goober, you can still use the 'experiment' option and do it the old way" argument. Regardless of whether the old way is available (or even still necessary for some combines), nobody is going to believe that anyone skilled up the hard way. Why? Because nobody (no, not even me) is going to.

That's right, after my slamming of the new UI, I'm going to use it...not because I think it's the right thing to do, but because I'm betting (and I hope I'm wrong about this) that stupid window's size is going to prevent any possibility of actually getting containers lined up to do click-and-drop combines right.

In general, it really upsets me that everything we're going to see out of EQ from now on is going to be reactive, rather than innovative. Don't fool yourselves into believing that the new tradeskill UI is the result of tradeskillers complaining about the tedium of the old way. Tradeskillers have been complaining for as long as I can remember about the means by which combines are done and nothing happened. And now, 60 days after the release of a competitive product that features a tradeskill interface that allows for select-a-recipe-and-click combines, SoE suddenly shows up with what they term "a clever solution"? I don't think so. It's neither a clever solution on their part nor a capitulation to the desires (and yes, for those of you out there who do have genuine physical difficulties with the old way of doing combines, the needs) of their players. It's a desperate attempt to keep people from cancelling their EQ subscriptions to go and play Horizons or WoW. Just as the casino in Shadowhaven isn't there because SoE noticed that player-run casinos in the bazaar (and, God help us, PoK) seem to be popular...it's there because they need to siphon pp out of the economy to try and fix the damage done by their latest plat dupe debacle. Just as the cost of GoD AAs isn't "to adjust for the fact that exp comes faster now than it did when PoP came out". It's to keep the ubers busy and in the game longer, because the biggest danger to the EQ bottom line is that some player should feel as though they've conquered the game and it's time to move on, and putting a long list of very expensive AAs in front of them helps to provide busy work for those players who're getting too close to the line.

So, it appears as though this message has turned into a bit more of a rant than I'd originally planned, and for that, I apologize...but what can I say, the servers are down, so I wasn't really motivated to wrap this up quickly.

Now that the NDA has been lifted...

Unless you have a modified skill level at or above the trivial level of the item you are trying to create... it will NOT add the recipe for you. In other words, for the most part, you are stuck with the classic interface for skilling up

Where the new interface really rocks is for things that are trivial such as.... blessed dust of tunare, celestial essence, **** swatches, ceramic linings, leather padding, etc... to name a few, and to be honest, once you achieve the required skill level, they should be de-clickified.

This interface will make things easier, yes, but it will not pave the way for fast and easy membership into the 1750 Club.

However... there are a few things to note:

Minotaur Hero Brew was a standard recipe in the beta, so, it may or may not be a part of the live standard recipe set. For things with small trivial gaps like some fletching and JC paths, a geerlok WILL allow you to avoid some clicking since your modified skill will be above the trivial level in many cases. But to be honest, those were the "easy" skills anyways.

NOTE: All of this information is based on the beta, and given that live is not "live" yet, it is subject to be changed...

Guys...the new UI is going in whether people want it or not. And many people do want it. The issue of whether it "should" go in is pointless.

How about we sit tight and see how it works out?

Only the complete and utter fools will think this is going to get them 250 in tradeskills fast. In fact I know someone who swore he'd never touch tradeskills. Now that the new UI is going live, he thinks it's going to be a walk in the park to get his 8th shawl.

I've tried talking sense into him to no avail. He is now about to find out what real tradeskillers already know....

Ask a monk who has raised his feign death skill about that. Or ask a rogue about his disarm trap skill or his lock pick skill. Try telling them they haven't accomplished anything "special" by raising those skills to the cap.

Frankly, I don't think a person's ability to tolerate wrist pain should be the thing that differentiates a grandmaster from a novice, and I don't really think that's ever been the real limiting factor in most tradeskills. Furthermore even if every player in the game were to take at least one character to the grandmaster level in one or two of the "easy" tradeskills I doubt it would really ruin the market for player made goods. The really desireable items tend to require extensive farming or foraging for materials and nothing is going to change that.

Will we see a sudden increase in the number of grandmaster brewers, bakers, and such in the game? Yes, I think so, but I don't think it will be as large as some folks here predict, and I don't think that will really make much of a difference in the long run. Let's be realistic here -- most players just don't care about or have any interest in tradeskilling. They want to get to 65 and they want to get uber loot and they want to get a bunch of AA's. They see tradeskills as a waste of time. They'd rather buy the stuff we make than go to the trouble to make it themselves.

The new interface is not a bad thing. The sky is not falling. In fact, it just got a little bit sunnier outside.
