  • Gates of Discord - tradeskill quests?

There are all sorts of things like that on the Queen of Thorns in the Abysmal Sea. There are fishermen that have interesting tales to tell about the one that got away, a dedicated waitress, garden gnomes (though they don't like to be called that) and a bunch of quests for tradeskillers. So if you were to ask me which zone I like the best, I'd say Abysmal Sea. There are some extremely exciting events and some awesome things to see in the other zones (many have golems!), but I love a good story, and I think that a good game has to be founded in and surrounded by simple things that make it live.

Solstice Ear from original (kinda, you know), Coldain Shawls from Velious, not sure if anything from Luclin, Aid Grimel from Planes, not sure where Oracle stuff fits, probably more 'LDoN' era... I guess they have to make Gates attractive to the tradeskilling crowd too, so they specifically state there is something in there for them.

One category of players play to slay things, and never touch tradeskills. The other category tradeskills, and might never go to half the world, because there is nothing they need in there with which to tradeskill. To me, I read his statement as saying, 'there's stuff in Gates for both kinds of people.'

Heh, that's a rather optimistic list. I think they're just as likely to fit in with the Catfish Croak Sandwich quest in Kunark, the Garzicor quest in Velious, the sonic wolf bane quests in Luclin, and the 'new research' quests in PoK.

Hey now, don't you lump the Garzicor quest in with those other ones. Heck, even the catfish croak sandwich is decent for non-twinks...now that it is working, at least.

Anyway, note the turn of phrase - 'a bunch of quests for tradeskillers'' and not 'a bunch of quests involving tradeskills'.

Mind you, I'm probably reading way too much into it.

Solstice ear is the Luclin era quest. Released during it, and not possible without it. (luclin expansion)

Luclin also had the Vah Shir tradeskill noob quests that carry on into your higher levels.

Never payed them too much attention tho.

If Shadowscream (the actual armor) didn't suck so much, I'd rate those quests/rigging the HSM war as lots of fun.

I'd love another 8th shawl type quest. I preferr a long quest for a exceptional item. Based on tradeskills and also obtainable without being elemental flagged or requiring a raid force to accomplish. The 8th shawl was a excellent quest for these reasons. i soloed every part of it up to the final walk. Quests like this allow your avaerge joe smoe to have a super item without having to join a raiding guild.

I agree that the Coldain Shawls were one of the better thought out and story rich quests there were.

Quests that inherantly expand the value of Tradeskillers are good (Solstice Earring Quest).

Quests that force players to achieve some limited skill in a trade are okay (8th Shawl Quest).

Quests that force players to become 250 GM tradeskillers in terrible for craftsman (Aid Gimiel Quest).

Quests that are limited to a few players that happen to be in high content raiding guilds (Aid Gimiel Quest) are pure rubbage.

Well, it remains to be seen if these tradeskill quests consist of gathering x number of no drop items from 70th lvl mobs to combine them for no drop uberitem08 or not. Or if these quests are more along the line of ingame hints towards new recipies. I hope for either more Shawl type quest, or more Solstice type quest - with zero Aid Gimiel type quests.

I'm confident that "quests for tradeskillers" = time sink.

                            From the Dev Chat

I asked a bunch of other tradeskill questions as I imagined a bunch of folks were doing at the same time but here is what was in the chat (I am including stuff about tribute system - they didn't say, but I have a hunch that at least some tributes will be crafted):

Will the new trade skill Quests be anything like as complex as the prayer shawl or solstice earring quests for us tradeskill junkies?

There are quests for almost every trade skill in Gates though they aren't as intensive as the shawl quests, they should prove to be beneficial and fun.

When will the new trade skill interface be introduced?

The trade skill interface will be released as a live feature with the update on February 10th.

The beneficial rewards from tradeskill quests - do you see these as being similar to marr cherries for the kejans, or quest that will have broad appeal and be worthwhile to a large portion of the player bas

Without gong into too much detail on exactly how the quests work...The tradeskill quest rewards will offer benefits with a more broad appeal for both the consumer and tradeskiller alike.

What levels is the tribute system supposed to be useful for?

The tribute system will be available to all players, beginning at level 10.

Can you tell us some of the effects you gain from the Tribute System?

The Benefits that you can expect to see from the Tribute system include effects that can be used to increase health and mana regeneration, vision enhancing effects, among other beneficial effects.

Will the tribute system be limited to people with deities only?

No the tribute system is available to everyone.

How long do Tribute buffs last and do they auto recharge?

Every 10 minutes tribute buffs will deduct points from your favor pool. Buffs last as long as you have points to pay for them.

Don't go off the deep end expecting shawl quests.

The tradeskill quests in the expansion are more basic, mostly helpful to those that want to start a new tradeskill, though there is certainly a boon to those that have high skills.

I just don't want you all to run out and expect another set of shawl quests, then come to my house and beat the snot out of me when they aren't that sort of quest.

Beat the snot out of me for something else...
