I got my reply in about 4 hours of sending it. But I sent mine very soon after the help-us-test-msg appeared here. Perhaps they were simply overwhelmed by the generosity of the volunteers and couldn't keep up. At least that's what I'd like to think it is.

Suffice it to say if you're going there for curiosity only and have no plans on doing some deep research and learning into charts and stock-like market tracking, you'd likely be wasting your time. It's not easy. Even with the instructions, in fact, it's darned hard to decipher and I've given up a number of times trying. And I do this kind of deciphering for a living!

We've gotten a tremendous response in the past week and have been working hard to make fixes and improvements based on feedback. We're adding more people to the beta every day, so fear not. Everyone who filled out an application will get a chance to try out the site before the end of Beta.

Making the data easier to decipher is one of our top priorities. We're working on a Simple Mode that should make the learning process more gradual and less like a plunge into cold water.

Nice work guys this is a great tool for price checks on items. I have a question about how often the servers are checked for prices and how you guys go about collecting that data? I doubt that you have someone continuously checking the price data so I assume that you have a automated process to do that for you on all servers. Can you explain how data is collected and how often pricing data is sampled.

              Thanks
              Dennis

Not rocket science, a toon runs a macro at set intervals that reads out all items listed and their prices and the output gets parsed to a database application. No idea how ofte they sample, but in theory you could sample every minute, perhaps even more often. Problem is, if you sample too often SOE may get mad, because as we all know, using 3rd party tools (i.e. macros) is against the EULA and a bannable offense.

However, a utility like this reports things that a user might otherwise not have the time or patience to access. Since the data is then reported publicly (so everyone can use it), it's not giving an unfair advantage to anyone, and since it might cause some players to become (more) interested in the game who thereby pay their subscription to SOE, they'll conveniently overlook the EULA.

I personally can't wait for the site to open. I do some item trading on my own, but I can't keep track of the prices of items in nearly the quantity that this site will.

Should be a major boon for those who sell in the bazaar on a semi-professional basis as well as those who dabble a bit on known good items like myself

It's actually a pretty decent site. I'm not sure if I'm enough of a trader to actually want to pay for it (plus they don't have stormhammer prices), and I'd question the validity of the models they use (they ignore the demand side since there's no way to track it), but it's very good for what it does.

Are these guys still around? Have emailed them several times over past month requesting beta access, but haven't heard a thing from them.

We're still here, and we've been busily working on a simpler interface for viewing charts. If you're already in the beta and found the charts completely confusing before, log in and try out the new Simple Mode, and let us know what you think.

If you applied but haven't gotten an email yet, thanks for your patience. There's a good chance you'll hear from us this week.

                              *cry*

Only beta I never got into if I applied... well, that and Horizons. I wanted Horizons and Trivial Pursuit, and Atari gives me Unreal 2 XMP, which gets cancelled anyway. *pout*

Doesn't matter, I used that account someone posted here very briefly, and looked over the site, and I can tell you right now I'm subscribing the very day they go public.
