I am in the beta and don't see aplace to discuss issues there (except under each item -- for example, I have posted in the leather padding forum. My dream come true, a forum devoted entirely to LP!)-- So is this the default spot for now?

I am testing the alerts today. I priced my alt's food source, roots, at 10K, and asked for an alert for prices over 9999.
EDIT: I got the correct alert a little over 2 hours after the price was posted.

As for the info source, it appears to be someone literally polling the /bazaar information and capturing it somehow. It is NOT sales, but offered prices, or so it seems.

If it is OFFERRED prices, some sort of disclaimer/warning might be warranted, so people know that although the data is 100% accurate it doesn't necessarily represent true market value.

Does the system account for prices offered or asked in /auc or the server's market channel?

No, our prices only come from the bazaar. A disadvantage is that a lot of trades happen in /auction and the market channel that we miss, but the advantage is that if an item is offered for a given price on a trader you are guaranteed to be able to buy it for that.

Many items have one or two posted at extremely high price ranges, and one or two at extremely low. A common way to account for this when calculating average price is to exclude the highest and lowest values, then average the rest. I'm not a financial pro, but I couldn't find a way to do this. Is this possible?

As Drubear said, Boellenger Bands are one way to see the price channel amid noisy data. We're also working on an efficient way to eliminate high-price outliers that we hope to have working before beta ends. There's no need to eliminate especially low prices, though. If someone is selling something for way below market value in the bazaar, go buy it

There isn't a general forum at this point, but you can send comments to beta@eqecon.com.

Right. All prices are offered prices in the bazaar, and we don't attempt to determine whether an item was actually sold at that price or not. We'll write up a FAQ that talks about these things before launch.
