  • Races and Religons Obsolete?

I’ve been wondering are the races and religions obsolete?

They certainly used to matter a great deal, in my opinion they were key to the early game. You had to balance out the cost (decreased faction, KOS guards in cities, fewer vendors etc.) versus the rewards (better starting stats, improved regen, nightsight, cultural armor, special deity restricted items, and tradeskill items, etc.). Traveling difficulties made home cities an important decision.

    But now??

We have PoK vendors that have almost every spell and tradeskill item. We have the bazaar to fill in those missing pieces, we have Shadow Haven for even more vendor options. There are books that port us from our home cites to PoK and it’s easy access to almost every zone in the game. Vendor faction and home cities simply don’t matter. They no longer provide even the ghost of a problem, but the benefits are still there. A human monk can’t begin to match an Iskar’s regen rate. Ogres can’t be bashed from the front. The list goes on and on. It’s no real surprise that there are fewer and fewer ‘vanilla’ race characters entering the game.

So my question is: why should those benefits not be removed as well? All the downsides have been.

Amusing this appears the same day a post calling for the removal of the exp penalty for alternate races because the benefits aren't as beneficial at 50+

because then the races are exactly the same and that would be stoopid. gnome warrior and ogre warrior now have exactly the same of everything except height and looks. your gnome tank now comes already shrunk and better looking what's the point to being a warrior.
i'm a sol ro, erudite, wizard. have very few faction problems anywhere, 255 int with gear and wouldn't on nother race, horrible night blind (permanently have up a vision spell), can port to avoid pok if i want to but thats class based.
alt is a female (woowoo) de, necro. has lots of faction prolems so i hunt on luclin for shadesilk instead of normal silk in some places and leveled in black burrow for a bit, great night sight so no worries there, pok to port around though it still seems weird and makes the world smaller, still a lot of int.
i wont play a frog wizard. already have one, its now the "cute" choice, and stats are just horrible.
made a human warrior instead of an ogre.
vah shir bst but was hard to choose kitty over barb. finally my cat side one out.
wood elf ranger of tunare. so easy to explain rp.
dwarf cleric and no idea what the "best" class is. wanted a dwarf and already had an erudite so no erudite cleric.

none are really min/maxed cept my main and he was my first. you can overcome a lot of the starting stats with gear anymore so your first toon is your hardest. reason i still dont think of eni as min/maxxed.

edit they still have race xp penalties? thought that took them away already.

high elf for cleric, best natural wis, makes getting gear for a youngun easier. probably falls under the category of min/maxxing.

obsolete? anywhere other than sullon, probably ^_^.

Just want to clarify, altho in the other post I did say I would like to see exp penalties go away after a certain level...I still think faction/religion is an important part of a game. It's tied into too many quests, and faction certainly makes life more interesting.

          Towns don't matter?

If towns didn't matter, I would have my epic already, because it wouldn't be a challenge to haul my scales through Qeynos to hop the boat to Erud's.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't need to hit Erudin.

I need Erud's Crossing, which means I have to take the boat from Qeynos and hop off at the island...well, before the island, since the residents there hate me, too.

then go to the sewer entrance in qeynos outside the wall. think its on maps now even. run through the sewers and swim out to the boat. if the boat swims over you it will pick you up and put you inside. good luck with epic.

                northq #2 is the entrance.

catacombs little confusing but i think you want a to g

southq you come out at 19.

edit also if your high enough to do your epic, 52+ i beleive, you could just go to black burrow and mow gnolls for a bit. have a DE necro alt that is indifferent to qeynos now.

very welcome. i dont know how to get an erudite necro out though. erudin has no sewers. i think nearly every other city does though.

I think its only the human cities that have sewers (Freeport and Qeynos). Most do have rivers/streams of somesort, but those don't provide nearly the protection of the true sewers.

Heretics start off as dubious to most (maybe all?) factions in Erudin.
Itzena Alhazared, Revenant of {Planeteers}, Vallon Zek. And also a seamstress.
Gelcea Macha, Wandering Animist of Tarew Marr. Will be a smith, one day.

Gnome warrior can be stunned. Ogre cannot be stunned from the front.

                          HUGE difference.

huh i always thought we were kos each other. killed enough herectics when they aggroed me we surely are now. need to get a few more levels and ae the warrens anyway.

So my question is: why should those benefits not be removed as well? All the downsides have been.

i know gnomes and ogres have a big difference now. i would like them to stay that way. also enchanters using ogre illusion can not be stunned afaik.

Enchanters using Ogre illusion can Slam. So I do believe that they cannot be stunned.

Troll illusion gives 1 regen/tick. Wonder if it brings on the xp penalty too.
