    Buff EVERY STAT (can't hurt)

If you get a success, click really fast again, cause the RNG isn't indivdual to the click (yea I know it's sillY)

Never do it encumbered. If yoiu can mod up closer without losing wis do so.

I have 250 in all trade skills excpet fletching. I maxed fletching to 200 a few years ago on another server and had so much trouble selling bows that i give up on that lame specialized skill. Anyway, I will let you in on my little secret because i think it got nerfed anyway.

The EQ random number generator has always sucked. I have written random number generators for various jobs in the past (im a computer programmer), and i am pretty confident that the old EQ random number generator cound not pass most statistical tests of randomness.

The random number generator was often streaky. You get groups or failures followed by groups of successes. Also, if i am in a raid and the roll is 1 to 8 for an item where there are 8 players that want it, i would like to be number 1 because it seemed to hit 1 more often than any other number.

People often complained and suspected the random numbers were not very random. I figure i could take advantage of it, and have been for a long time. Except after the last patch, it seems it no longer works.

For example, making Mistletoe cutting sickles with smithing skill around 235, i would get typically a 75% success rate just by taking advantage of the poor quality random number generator.

Here is how it works. You know that successes, failures, and skillups seem to come in groups. So, i take advantage of that by doing expensive combines slowly. If i fail, i start organizing my backpacks. If i succeed, i do more combines as fast as i can. So, i fail one, then succed 3, then fail one or 2, and succeed 4. I do the same with skill ups. I may do 40 combines with no skill up. When i hit a skill up i do the next 10 combines as fast as i can, and sometimes i get 3 or 4 skill ups during those combines.

However, i think this has been nerfed. It used to be like a green light going on and the next 3 of 4 would be guarenteed success. When failure happened it was like a red light and time to take a break. Now, with maxed smithing i am only 50% successful on the sickles. And, it is kind of obvious not the the combine quickly following a success is no longer a success. It used to be almost a guarentee that a quick combine following a success would succeed.

Another thing... If i fail a lot, i reboot the computer. When i stated combining sickles a few days ago, I failed 8 out of the first 10 mistletoe sickles. I rebooted the computer (logged off and did a restart). When i logged back in i had better success and ended up making 32 out of 60 combines.

        My superstitions are simple:

I prefer to do any work in SH. If for some reason it's not feasible, then I'll hit Cabilis. (Cabilis is a hassle tho, just because I have to zone for water).

Brewing? Only use one barrel in SH. Not the one in the upstairs room, but the one way in the back to the right of the pool. Only once in my brew career has someone else been using it, and very rarely do I fail there, even on dyes and tempers.

Like some others, I try to shuffle where I place items in the container.

Oddly enough, I don't go out of my way for kei, but I will make sure I have some kind of focus up. Maybe because at my level the diff in kei (238 wis unbuffed vs 255 with kei) it has never appeared to make a difference.

I tend to do skills in large batches, always with maxed wis (and often with high int too), with a geerlock if I have it (even for enchanted velium bits!) and I seem to be veering towards equipping my Divine Inspiration whether I need the wis or not.

I used to stop once I got a skillup, but nowadays I do the entire batch without looking at the main chat till I am done - it got too depressing looking at long strings of no skillups

            maybe neurotic but

I always sit in absolute silence when doing combines, just in case the computer can here me. When I combine 20 halas meat pies with no skill I stuggle not to curse the computer out loud....Yeah I am not paranoid.

superstitious as the day is long but i went through smithing like water to 250, averaging 1 skill up per 18-20 combines from 180 on. (in halas for the most part, then shadow haven when doing screamers). i would punch the sense heading button at least 18-20x per stack of combines, sometimes 2-3x per combine. i was (am?) convineced the rng is not per skill. so i would maximize my chances by running up Sense Heading along with smithing. seems to work!

that and stop if thing just absolutely are not working. like failing the first 10 sickles. time to go do something else.

tiz my thoughts. also seem to have better luck when i have my lucky charm sitting with me (aka bf).

i like my superstitions, i intend to keep them.

errr...I have found that if I send a tell to a friend, complaining that I have not gotten a skillup in 'x' combines, I generally get one soon after.

As far as success goes, I only succeed if I do not *need* the item. /sigh So I pretend that I do not need any items I make.

I always mix up the order of the components trying to repeat the same pattern is rarely as possible. in smithing I always put in the hammer, or whichever relevant tool I'm using, first. Also if I am not getting skill ups, I always wait for a while, and move a short distance away, maybe teh bad luck gods are standing in the spot I'm trying to skill up in =P as far as location goes I usually work in pok or neriak
