  • Selling Bags in the Bazaar (Test Server)

Posted: Sat Nov 29, 2003 1:18 pm Post subject: Selling bags in the Bazaar

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theres a new feature on Test.

You used to be able to not be able to sell Weight Reducing bags in the bazaar because you couldnt put bags into bags. This is now fixed.

Hand any Weight Reducing bag to Caerlyna, a Female Barbarian NPC in front of the building between banks in the Bazaar and she will hand you a Token, which is sellable in Traders Satchels. If you give this token to her, she will give you the appropriate bag.

The Tokens are named after the bag ('a Lemming Fur Satchel token', etc...)

I havent tested this out with any other bags besides the Lemming fur, but ive also seen Archeologists Pack and a Herbalist Pack in the bazaar on Test.

As always, this is only on test server. It may change/not go live/disappear all together.

Feel free to make a new toon on test, hop over to the bazaar and hail the chickie. (Beg for plat for bone chips or malachite and ill smack you. =)

quite interesting. rather hope it makes it live, for those poor tailors out there who have to auction their bags constantly

and they could always /testbuff up to 25 and kill greenies for the bonechips or money for malachite (still annoyed my ranger lost 70 points of foraging when i did that to her...levelled her to 20 and then decided i'd see what the testbuffed armor was *sigh*)

I remember seeing this exact same idea (tokens, or receipts, one unique token per bag-type) on these very boards. Who says Sony never listen

Does it work on other containers? Such as tailored or fleeting quivers?

WOOHOO I wont have to sit and auction Havers for hours when I make them. I wait until I can do runs of 10-15 bags until I make/sell them. This would ROCK!

I emailed this idea to Varent so long ago its not funny - SOE has had a change and is now doing things to make the game more enjoyable and it's a good thing - I thank them.

I know I have a reputation for being a naysayer, but hear me out.
                  This is bad, ok?

I'd like you to think of your favorite tradeskill item. The one you used to sell for more profit them you knew what to do with.

Now, remember when 40 other people started selling them while AFK? Remember what happened? Now, they sell for cost.

The bag market is tough enough already. This is going to turn into more of a buyer's market then it already is.

I made a small fortune off of Handmade Backpacks , way back when, and Planned on making Haversacks one day. The bag market was tough, but could be fair if you had patience.

Lemming Fur bags are going to sell for the cost of the Plat Threads, maybe less, when 12 people can sell them while AFK. Haversacks will drop to 4-5k, I bet.

Call me a pessimist, but I think that this is one case where giving the tradeskillers what they think they want is going to only lead to the crash of another market.

Although I wish I was wrong, I have to agree with Lilosh as far as saying prices will likely drop. Buyers, on the other hand, will love this feature.

Those of you who can remember life before the Bazaar, think of the prices for anything. I remember finding Splitpaw armor in SK when I was in my 20s, traveling back to G-Fay, and selling it for 20 to 30pp a piece. Now with the Bazaar, you can find much better armor much cheaper. Good for buyers, bad for sellers.

As the current system is set up, a buyer must /auction in a number of zones (usually PoK or Bazaar, but there are more) trying to find a tailor, or even more difficult, a Halfling tailor with GM skill who has a Haversack or the ingredients and is willing to sell. That tailor, though, can command the highest possible price for the bag, as there is likely little competition between sellers.

As for sellers, same story. Sit in a zone where there are a lot of people that might be able to use a bag, and hope someone bites. Not the most exciting way to spend an afternoon.

Being able to sell bags in the Bazaar will allow a seller to be afk or on a second account while running a trader, which frees up time and effort in selling. It is also going to lead, as with any other good, to increased competition and price wars. Multiple tailors in one zone, all selling their goods, will send prices down. On a potential good note, sales may increase in volume, even while the profit margin decreases.

All that said, I do hope this feature goes live. I like the idea, and I like the ability to sell and buy bags at any time, not simply when I can find a tailor or a customer. I just think everyone who plans on making a fortune selling bags should remember that prices aren't going to be as high as they are now.

i like this idea quite a bit. sure, this will tear down (a rather unnatural) barrier to entry to the bag market, and so stimulate competition. yes, this means we sellers get hurt by a price decrease, but we also can make more bags (assuming these things aren't lore or anything). you now can sell oodles of haversacks (etc.) at a time, rather than just a few. *shrug*

I think Lilosh is correct. This is going to make it harder for bag producers to maintain profits far above cost. As it is now, a typical seller is competing only against delaying a purchase in hopes of a better deal. Once folks can sell bags in afk-mode, there will likely be more than one seller offering bags at once, all the time, and this will tend to increase competition and drive down prices.

I really need to get my data collection in gear b/c this will be a great natural experiement.

You spelled "another" incorrectly before the word "case"

I am of the thought this is not a good thing. Not sure how many people sell Haversacks on my server, But I am doing well with them.
I buy pretty much all the Tufts I can get in bazzar (@50pp). Get everything ready and head to PoK sit and /ooc Wts Haversack 6k
I sell 6-10 in under an hour. Selling bazaar I can see profit dropping fast.

Oh well, They have paid for most of my latest Tradeskill work. I guess its time to find a new money maker..

I fully admit - I'm a buyer and not a seller of those bags. I think it's good.

If every race had such a cash cow then I might be more agreeable that it's bad, but haversacks are a cash cow for just a few and it's at the expense of everyone else. As it is the haversacks etc. provide a very viable alternate skillup path that the other races are barred from.
