As part of a list of suggestions to improve the Rangers class, a number of Rangers are advocating changes to Elemental Bows (e.g.. making them no-drop and/or decreasing their stats). If any fletchers wish to have a say in this issue (either for or against), please review the thread and respond if you see fit.

Should elemental bows be nerfed?

making them no drop would be pointless. then you couldn't sell them. would have no use tradeskilling it if you couldn't sell them.

Excuse me, but how does nerfing of high end bows improve the class? These rangers need to have their heads examined.
Nevermind the ramifications to tradeskilling, they're actually begging to have their archery skill nerfed by having the bows nerfed, which is truly insane. How do they justify the thought that the stats on the Elemental Bows are overpowering? What kind of BS are the numbskulls in their uber guilds feeding them to make them think that their bows are too good?Androsulach Phlithvelve

Well think about it. They are elemental class weapons. They are tradeable. This means they are obtainable by rangers who are not in elemental planes. Other classes (say rogues) do not get such nice weapons tradeable. Its really not fair. I wouldn't have made them as good as they are in the first place. Or perhaps made them No Drop. Its too late to nerf them now though.

Um aren't those bows useable by all bow classes? Or by elemental bows, are we not referring to stonewood, featherwood, etc?
Sure rogues, warriors, etc can use the bows, but we're more for stats than actual using them like a ranger will.Elder Muskratt

Before you say they're not overpowered, sometime look at a parse of what an EQ, AM3 ranger can do with a featherwood (24/24 with a 75 point dd and stun). The bow is 63 recommended and 61 required.
If archery is an option (and I know that not all encounters have that available because of mob positioning etc) there is nothing that's even close to that damage. It is way out of balance.
A ranger with that bow outdamages lvl 65 wizards and has almost no aggro issues. And you buy it. For a comparable rogue weapon you need an iffr - a rare drop off of an elemental god kill. There are no other tradeskill made weapons that are that dominant and even the nuker/dotter pottery focus items are relatively tame.
Tell me just how that is balanced when it's available at lvl 61 and requires no skill to buy and no other classes have anything comparable?

It's very simple. It's always the same answer. The ubers don't want anyone else to be uber. Just them. People not in elemental planes with elemental bows hurts their position on the food chain (in their mind, at least).
Personally, I think all benefits from PoP should have been usable only in PoP zones. All items from all the zones no drop, and no tradeskill items made.. that weren't no drop. A level 65 time flagged individual doing anything ANYWHERE other than PoP = a level 60... with gear modified DOWN to fit a predetermined max for non=PoP content.
These people complaining about the bow fail to see that the ENTIRE expansion trvialized virtually all the content prior to it.
Maybe the elemental bows are a bit overpowered. I KNOW a mage, bard and cleric trio'ing a veliuos dragon shouldn't happen... but it does.
Now, they could nerf the bows.. then I think they should track back to who made each bow.. and remove all the plat and items that uber-guilder got for making the bow in the first place... of plat items they got for selling the components.
.. but, i prefer to agree with Pyraxis. I've seen it way too much.

The components for these bows are not sitting on a vendor at the zone in of each elemental plane waiting for folks with access to buy them. They have to be farmed. In many cases the components are rare. In some cases you will only see the components drop on raids.
Should guilds that have access to the elemental planes put up the components for sale to people they dont know before making sure ALL of their members have one? Think about what you would do before knocking guilds with elemental access.
I will tell you right now many people with elemental access will never even see a PoF elemental bow since the fiend guts only drop on raids. PoA bows are going to be rare because it is really not a grind zone. PoW bows are going to be rare because very few people like to grind in water. PoE bows are going to be the most common and even then it took me several days of grinding to farm components for 2 attempts at my bow (one failed).Matteo - Deceiver - Dol Amroth - Rodcet Nife

65 ranger , eq-am3.
Yes elemental bows are overpowered. Are rangers overpowered..please excuse me while I laugh my ass off. With all the problems inherent to archery, there is no way you can say it's overpowered, plus you need 45 AA points (which is a crapload of AA by the way) to even consider it a combat option.
Verant has always, and will always cater to uber guilders, this is why the elemental bows were created. These bows should be absolutely, positively, made no-drop. It's my belief that no player should be using an elemental bow unless they have access to the elemental planes themselves. It sickens me to see plat farming type players using stonewoods. I still use a twisted longbow, because I want to earn what I wield, not play Hi-Lo bazaar seller. My next upgrade should be either Tallon-Zek bow or the LDoN bow, you won't see my buying any elemental bow that's for sure.
EQ2 should fix these types of issues.
