Firewater is used in the Crab Cracker tinkering recipe.
1 Firewater (tinkered - Gnomish Spirits + Water Flask in Toolbox))
2 Metal Rods (tinker-merchant sold)
1 Knuckle Joint (drop from Plane of Innovation mobs)

To further discussion in the wrong forum ( ), I tested how well a non-gnome could make firewater not too long ago. A human did a couple of stacks and got 40-50% failure rate.
A gnome typically has a 5-10% failure rate (yes, it's been horrible for something that's been trivial since level 1), although since the introduction of the new armor, I haven't failed a single firewater (/em knocks on wood). I'm hoping they finally made it a no-fail combine like combining spider/ling silks for someone of significant skill. It's not like it is a money sink on those failures of water and gnomish spirits or anything, so no need to keep the failures in.

I ran two stacks of firewater and got 13 (out of 40) success. This is about the same ability I had when combining my fine plate dyes in a mortar and pestle-- it seems that we have either a very small innate skill, or that it's possible to do things right with no skill at all.
I did get a trivial message on each of the successful combines, but I think that's because I'm not a gnome and can't improve my skill at all, not because I had some small amount of skill and the combine was trivial under that amount.
Everyone has tinkering skills at 50, whether you are a gnome or not. Only Gnome can advance on tinkering at certain levels. I have personally made some tinkering items including some high skill level ones. I just had to combine 20 of them to make one. I am a high elf cleric.

I don't believe that everyone has Tinkering at 50.
My gnome rogue was able to almost always make Gnomish Fireworks, while my cleric almost always failed (though he did succeed sometimes).
I saw a post someplace relating success rate with skill and trivial
Success = Skill - .75 x Trivial + 51.5
So if a non-gnome attempts a few hundred combines of a known trivial and records the success rate, we could compute the person's skill by
Skill = Success + .75 x Trivial - 51.5
BTW, the same formula gives a trivial of about 335 for Misty Thicket Picnics, based on a 50% success rate at 250 skill.
To follow up on my previous post. I've since failed one firewater (out of maybe 75 combines).
Two things have happened since I've experienced 5-10% failure rate. New gnome cultural armor recipes added (possible failure rates were adjusted), and my tinkering skill is 200+ (possible failure rate plummets at 200).
Just my observations and possible explanations.
