But, but but... what about those lucky few of us who *have* actually managed to find stone beans? Are we demeaning the trophy by making it easier to get? As was pointed out in a snipe-fest over on my server's boards, tradeskills *should* be hard. Especially the quest to get what is, at this time, the ultimate expression of skill and determination for that particular skill.

Certainly not a complaint. I love the quests, I have had more fun doing them than any other in-game activity I can remember in years, and I appreciate that you're willing to remove some of the roadblocks. But what might be the unintended effects of making these trophies easier to get?

      tradeskills *should* be hard
Tradeskills "should" be fun and enjoyable too. there's a difference between a rare item and an ungodly absurd pos "does this exist?" item.

the ultimate expression of skill and determination for that particular skill
I know you're talking about stone beans -- but take the case of the giant wasp stinger (because that's what this post is about). Two days now, wiping the zone with 2-3 people -- no drop. Skill and determination is finding new combines, making combines, skilling up your character, and selling your created wears to the EQ populus. Not spending an absurd amount of time looking for 1 item for 1 combine, or coughing over some rediculous amount of plat for 1 item in the bazaar because some person got lucky with a drop (mind you no Giant Wasp Stingers in Tunare bazaar yet).

I am happy Ngreth understands this and is making his best effort to fix it to something more applicable and fun for the majority of game players.

Honestly I rather see the drop rates fixed, not the combine. If the combine is changed to another one...still didnt fix the problem of an item being uber rare for future uses. But I'll take anything at this point -- Ngreth made my week.

and IF the combine is changed, those of us needing that will need to get a new quest and start over.

right now i'm stuck on the giant wasp stinger and the taelosian mountain tea leaves.

Ngreth, could you find out if you can tell us HOW these two items will be fixed before they are, if i have to cough up 5k for the leaves and get my guild to raid misty before the new patch then i'll look into that possibility, i really don't want to have to start the whole quest again.

As i understand if you completed part of the quest it will stay completed even if the recipe changed. But I was under the impression the drop rate would be increased.

drop rate of stingers yes, but what of the tea leaves? will they be included in non keyed zones or will regular taelosian tea leaves replace the mountain version?

I agree that simply upping the drop rate a bit would end the problem with the stingers. I've been hunting a couple hours a day for three days and haven't seen one, though the other non-quest pieces show up (eye, wing, etc.). So we just need the stingers to be a little more common.

Will be changing this one I guess

I already changed the Stone Beans... but I need a full patch for the changes to go live, and that is not scheduled until 3/14
                Thank you so much, Ngreth!!

I'd be willing to bet you that your gonna have to delete the current quest and start over after the patch on 3/15.

Took me about 5-6 hours to get mine. But I did mine first thing the first night after I got done showing the guild around the new expantion.

Thanks for changing it ngreth. My notes did not include this drink in any of the levels of brewing that I tested or I would have mentioed my concerns earlier.

Taelosian Mountain Tea products would have been fine but I also did not realize that noone EVER bothers to sell the leaves or the tea and for about 3 weeks in the baz on my server I only saw the final products. So much for that

The task system "tracking" or "memory" does not track specifically what you have done. Only that you have completed or not completed element X (and if multi-step how many steps of that element you have done)

It does not care if element X was to hail bob, or to hail george.

                      So.

If you have not done the element. No problem, to you no change... you just need to do the new thing.
If you have done the element... No Problem, you will still have that element completed, it will just say you have done something you did not do ::shrug::
The only way you should be messed up is if you have completed the combine element, but not the turn-in element (since both will be changing) in which case... you will have to make the new one for the turn in. Moral of that bit... TURN IN YOUR COMBINES!

I need to make a macro of that little bit... I think I have typed it out about 10 times

Got my stinger this morning, I think I spent 6-7 hours overall. Now if only I had some Taelosian Mountain Tea Leaves I could finish up!

Hope this helps, having spent a total of 20 hrs now slaughtering we finally got our stingers.

Confirmed drops of it are the yellowjackets in Misty and the named hornet in Lfay, who we only seen twice.

Tidbit which we noticed, the yellowjackets in Misty only spawn from about 5am till about 7pm game time so killing the zone at nighttime game time is useless. It looked like Bixies spawn in there place during the nightime.

Another tidbit: the yellowjackets seem to share spawns with the thorn drakelings, too. Killing thorn drakelings and bixies during the day netted me some yellowjackets without having to mass slaughter the zone.

Spent all day yesterday in Misty and no dice. Logged on this morning and got amazingly lucky - two stingers back to back on the first two yellowjackets I spawned!

And thank god, because I failed on my first attempt at making the Faydwer Stinger *moan*. Something within arm's reach definately would've gotten broken if I had not had that second stinger ready and waiting.
