I've been puttering about, reading some of the old threads and comments. Several times, people discussed subcombines for the spices, but apparently never actually did any extensive testing. It would be worth going back to the thread Furyrpied linked and reading it over with a critical eye. You might get a flash of insight from the speculation in there.

Also, just to make sure folks are aware, Brodder posted a Hot Sauce thread in the Baking forum, of all places. Read it here.

I realize that Itzena said this list was the result of a very brief search...
      Fire Giant Toes
      Flarefire Seeds
      Flame of Vox
      Imp Blood
      Algae Spices
      Allspice
      Chagra Spice
      Firewater
      Essence of Fire
...however it sparked a thought or two.

First off, this may not be much help, but I wanted to point out that Flame of Vox probably isn't a viable component for any "hot" recipes. Like Ice of Velious, this is a mage research component and it's only used in creating Water pet spells. Because of this, I've always had the impression that the "Flame" of Vox is actually quite cold. The fact that Vox is an Ice Dragon lends further weight to this idea

Thinking about mage research made me start considering a few possibilities that might be worth exploring though. Some of the components used in the creation of Fire pet spells seem not so far-fetched. In particular, Breath of Ro, Breath of Solusek and Halas Heater (hmm, Brewed!) all strike me as worth looking at. Flame of Fennin was added with LoY and thus seems unlikely and I can't see using a Jade Shard in any sort of liquid.

Methinks it's time for me to spend some time down at my favorite spot in the Blind Fish

One of the other solved brewing recipes, from dropped hints by Brodder in another post in this forum, uses Ice of Velious to keep it cold. It's called Frothy Frostbite. So don't discount Flame of Vox, due to it's research use.

I am wondering if instead of peppers, if an ogre would prefer to use gnome or halfling meat or hot and spicy toelings or pickled froglok or even gnome kabobs. These recipes have been around quite a while I think. Just an idea, will try some combines and check

I think you may have misunderstood the point I was trying to make. Perhaps I was unclear. I didn't mean to imply that Flame of Vox was an unlikely candidate because it's a research component. I was simply pointing out that even though it has "flame" in its name, it is quite likely a very cold substance and therefore would be a poor ingredient for "hot" sauce.

It's actually the fact that Ice of Velious is part of another recipe that made me consider Breath of Solusek and Breath of Ro for the hot sauce. It's a longshot though and so I haven't had the inclination to see if I can concoct anything with it

              Hot Sauce...

Has anyone just tried any of these?

              Vinegar + Vegetables + Spices
Vinegar + Vegetables + Algae Spices
Vinegar + Vegetables + Spices + Sea Salt
Vinegar + Vegetables + Algae Spices + Sea Salt

I'm not a brewer yet, just an idle wonderer, and I can't actually get on to try them, but maybe an enterprising soul could? Peppers are vegetables...and lots of folks think tomatoes are also.

Seem like obvious tries to me, particularly given the clue above...

                I suggestion

It could be as easy as......

                Jug of sauces
                Firewater

I haven't seen jug of sauces mentioned as a component yet in your combines.

one of the most daunting issues with hot sauce is that it might be brewing, might be baking, could be a brew barrell, might be a mixing bowl, could possibly be an oven, (not to mention any permutation of the dozen baking implements and brewing supplies), or even a mortar and pestle. not asking for a total give away but another tiny bone might be helpful. while most seem to think brewing, it seems to strike me that the post in baking forum was for a reason.

if it is bakeing then i would imagine it would be liek cream and creamy fennel sauce. all in a mixing bowl. thats how you usually make a sauce or anything right?

I tried a bunch of combines in a mixing bowl with variations on:

                          1,2,3 vinegar
                          1,2,3 habanero pepper
                          1,2,3 cinnamon sticks
                          1,2,3 jugs of sauces
                          1,2,3 spices
                          cask & nothing

and it all came up DNC so i tossed it all back in the bank. i meant to try them all with a bottle but i forgot. i will be more organized when my right forearm recovers from hitting 250 smithing and actually record my attempts for posting. but right now everything from the elbow down to my fingers is not going to let me do any more combines =p

i gotta find a different way to do this stuff ><

                            Ok, so far...

                            in a brewing barrel

                            Veggies + vinegar
                            Veggies + vinegar + spices
                            Veggies + vinegar + spices + water
                            Veggies + spices + water
                            Veggies + spices + sauces + water

Then all of those with both a bottle and a cask
And then all of those with two veggies
And then again with two vinegar, spices, sauces, water.

Then I tried veggies + spices in a mixing bowl, then a mortar and pestle.

Then I tried all of the above in an oven.
                            Nada.

I'm going by what Brodder said here, about how he's been waiting since SoV.

So I took a trip to Cobalt Scar via PoM, and bought a few each of algae spices, seaweed vinegar, and oyster sauces.
I tried all the same combines as above...
                            Nada.

                              Well possibly

There was a suggestion I read somewhere I thought came from Brodder that a recipe of another tradeskill may help ....

Perhaps Firewater (tinkered) is part of the recipe....

i can see it now. it takes firewater and spices in a forge to make this stuff. and they wonder why we didn't stumble onto it accidently?
