  • The (Apparently) Ongoing Force Feeding Debate

Ok, here's the thing. I don't forage. I do bake. Or did. Last year, around September, not sure exactly when, but close to September, I skilled up from 188 to 200 on Misty Thicket Picnics. It was a lot of combines, and a lot of failures, but all the subrecipies make crazy amounts of goods, and I got 1-2 successes (yield 4) off each stack of attempts, with an occasional stack of no success.

So, I had always kept five stacks of food, usually fish rolls, and five stacks of drinks, usually fizzlecutter's, in one bag. I replaced my fish rolls with 5 stacks of picnics and gave the rest away, and later on I got one stack from a guildy who was skilling up, so a total of six stacks. I'll forcefeed occasionally, like if something drops a chunk of meat, but I don't keep food on a regular basis to force feed. I have Innate Metabolism 3.

That was Septemberish (Coulda been august, coulda been october. It's been a while). I'm down to one stack now.

So, for those who can't forage, is it really worth the added effort to keep a supply of force-feeding food?

I guess is depends on your baking/brewing skills, and what your buff food is.

If you can make the buff food easily or buy cheaply, then it may not be worth force feeding.

If the buff food is expensive/rare, or if you don't bake/brew yourself, then it may be worth the extra effort to force feed.

Fish Rolls and Fizzlecutters are cheap, high end stat food isn't. You can purchase one (not one stack, just one) and keep it going with a bunch of filler food.

I sell a stack of fish rolls for 5pp per stack on E-Marr. Where can you get stat food for that price?

If you have money, why bother? If you don't have the money, why bother wasting what you have? It's all a matter on how much you want to scrimp and save vs how much you are willing to blow on not having to worry about it.

Ok, I was just wondering if I really was crazy. Baking will be one of my earliest NT crafting skills, since I have 3 bags near-full of post-50 baking supplies (I like to vendor-farm). I'm thinking my last stack will endure till I start working on Baking again

And I'm not trying to put down those who force feed; it's definitely cheaper that way, but also more of a bother. As it is, I usually forget to clickify half the things in my Bag o' Clicky Goodness (tm).

Just depends on the individual (just like everything else!). If you have a horse, you have no money after spending it all on your horse, you don't have innate metabolism, and you are not a baker or brewer, forcefeeding is definitely a good way to make your food last longer.

if you spend all your time indoors, have IM3, and do all your own baking and brewing, then yeah, forcefeeding is certainly less useful to you.

I never remember to forcefeed so i just keep 2 bags, one with stat food and one with cheap food. the bags look different. i just keep the one with cheap food in the upper left bag spot unless i'm actually in need of the stats. then when its time to use the stat food, i forcefeed until i can't hold anymore, swap the bags, and don't worry bout it til i'm done playing and switch em back. I still go through stat food, but not as fast as i did back when i just had the stat food and no cheap food

If you're a 200+ skilled baker, miraculous stat food doesn't cost a lot: when i was skilling on HMPs, my skillup sessions costed me ~300pp (after farming wolf and mammoth meats) and i got sth like 20+ stacks of food out (usually 22 or 23, i was preparing 80 tries [4 stacks of each ingredient), that's only 13pp/stack and i didn't have to bother with force feeding...

now i'm on Hero Sandwitch, that's even cheaper (but the parts are a bit more difficult to get)

I spent 3 aa to be able to skill baking up to 250 so i could make Party Platters. (Not to mention actually having to do the work to GET 250 on picnics). I do NOT have elemental access, so the few platters i was able to make were from reruga meat gotten from someone else, at great expense. I dont have Innate Metabolism, as i can forage.

Yes, i always keep iron rations and water flasks to chow down on, if i happen to be in a zone i cant forage food up in (the Grey, BoT, Ssra, etc) and run out of foraged nummies.

Force feeding is always a good idea when the stat food is something like Hero Sandwiches that cost a lot.

Buy a timer from the store and set it to 40 mins and force feed on non-stat food. when the time goes off force feed again and reset timer. This what you NEVER use your stat food. I've had the same sandwich for months now. (Force drinks too at the same time.)

40 minutes. Nice... My main is a halfling. We go throught the food at twice the rate of most toons. If I ever bother to get a horse, that consumption will SKYROCKET. I force feed.

                      Vah Shir eating habits

Halfings have nothing on Vah Shir who EAT a lot.
And if you have a horse, well, let's just say i could easily go thru a stack of fish rolls & fuzzlecutters before the week was up by a number of days.

And this was before the AA for innate metabolism. I will be gettting IM3 sometime after a few more AAs in other places

However, for myself, I just keep the non-stat food readily avaible in the first few slots of my backpacks, and the nice stat food in the last few slots. So I don't have to force feed. It's easy enough to switch out, and I often do it anyways for other items like resist gear for going against those nasty AE mobs on raids. ICK.

I'm a GM brewer, and will eventually get there in baking, so I don't worry too much about the cost of drinks. Enough guildees are making highh stat food, so we trade stat drinks for stat food. Works in either case.

I'm a Magician, who's summoned food for all of eternity since starting nearly 4 years ago. Even when the quite respectable Hero sandwhichs started appearing, I didn't bother. One spell at beginning of the day and I was good to go for the whole play session (usually ) But when the guild got to plane of water and started getting crabs I couldn't pass it up. Also then learned about Kaladim Constitutional. Since getting the crabs was fairly difficult and everyone wanted them, the guild baker then would usually toss out about 5 or so to anyone who wanted. Well **** I gotta make these 5 last, so I took up force feeding. Simply kept summoning my food and drink when I logged on as always, but stored them below the stat food and whenever I remembered, took a few nibbles. I was pretty good at it and those 5 crabs lasted me quite a while - like 3 weeks, and I play quite a lot. I bought Innate Metabolism to help out by giving me more time to remember to feed. The next 5 lasted me like 5 weeks. Most the time was when I would go out for a party or whatever and just afk, but forget to move my food. By that time I had started my Aid Grimmel quest and could make my own food, and made my BPPs a few weeks ago. I carry 2 crabs, 5 KCs, 3 Planar BLood Brew, 2 Trillion Tail Soup, 12 Swamp Rat Crunchies and 6 BPPs at all times. Resist food. Cracks my guildmates up, but there's some respect when I gain 20 poison/disease by switching the order of my food =P

I continue to summon my food and drink and force feed.

I haven't eatten ANY stat foods in about 10 weeks now.

I know this doesn't exactly help because summoning not much than foraging, but todays foods can be very very helpful - and extra 2 equipment slots, and worth caring about. The nice thing about the summoned food I use is that because it's short duration, if i were forcefeeding Fizzlecutters and Fishrolls, I'd usually be full when I try. I think it'd cause me to forget more often or miss my window of oppurtinity. But since I summon it, there's no space issue. (my magelo shows my inventory exactly as I see it, and my button banks are set up so that force feeding takes me all of 4 seconds to switch out the food to inventory and click away)

People who make BPPs - i'm actually assuming that it isn't the crab meat that's hard to get - it's the slarg parts!! Unless you forcefeed, BPPs are just too limited for the most part by crab parts and slargs I think, and it's definitely worth keeping a stock of forcefeeding goodies and be very aware of your extended afking and intense xp groups. I think the same can be said of Tormentor Stir Fry. No one want's to go to fricken camp slargs and PoTorment hehe.

I'm a bit confused. Are there containers that you can clicky eat food out of?

I usually have to remember to keep a stack of food in my main inventory to click and eat.. or remember to temporarily put some food there and stuff myself occasionally.

Hence, I manage to eat my stat food rather quickly.

(good idea with the timer, I'm going to time my own consumption, and do that)

SO... what are these wonderful containers?

No, I pick up the food out of my bag, place in main inv slot and right click. Or you could have the bottom 2 slots with stodge food/drink, top left bag with stat food/drink and just right click when ever you open your inv (or every so often).

I stodge away, sell my spares
