  • I think Im going to cry...

Guys... Im gonna cry. Like RIGHT NOW!

For the first time the true horror of the RNG has shown its ugly face to me. Last night I made my first runs on HMP's.

30 Combines - ZERO skill ups (52 pies made)
35 Combines - ZERO skill ups (120 pies made)
40 Combines - ZERO skill ups (120 pies made)

I was SO frustrated that I was ready to kick the **** thing. Well my friend had some griffon meat for me, plus I had some in the bank.

42 Griffon Melt Combines - ZERO skill ups (18 Griffon Melts made)
8 Anaconda Melt Combines - ONE skill up (Zero Anaconda Melts Made)

So total mojo? Over 150 combines, and Im at Baking (192)

Im happy at least a little because those 250 pies are gonna make me about 650pp, easily enough to fund more AND buy me some much needed armor.

Caethe needs comfort... and more money. Stuck a trader up with my pies while Im at school today (at school now) and HOPING Ill come back to enough where I can buy more sage leaves/Fennel to do another 125 combines or so (all I have meat for. Then more farming)

    **sighs** Baking Hooooooo!!!

I can sooooooooo empathize with that! I had a horrid time getting from 190-200, I'd guess it took me roughly 500 combines (that's SKILL combines, not counting precombines) to make it from 190-195. Once I hit 200 things seemed to get much easier for some reason... I was averaging an increase every 25-30 combines or so there at the end.

RE: I think Im going to cry...

My first impressions are ...That sucks!!!!!! I feel for you

My next thoughts were ..what is your Wis/Int/Dex? When I did the final push from 200 to 250 I had about 1 in 5 stacks of components not give a skill up. The higher the Wis/Int the better (my Wis was 255, unbuffed, for the whole stretch). I noticed as I was doing these that the higher the Dex the more successful combines I would get. Nothing scientific, yet it was a noticible increase in successful combines not skill ups.
The RNG must have had a bad night to mess with you so bad. take a few days off from skills and try again in a non lag area and Good Luck on your next attempts. Taking time off from skills always seemed to help..if not in reality for my own peace of mind... :?

I had this post 200, with 165 wis (there is a tearful post somewhere, something like 180 combines for one skill up, 80 for the next one). The RNG is not your firend. :P

With 250ish wisdom, 214 ---> 215 took me way over 200 combines. I stoped counting at 210 combines.

I stopped feeling sorry for people after that.

/nod - that was my 192-193 experience, some 400 combines....

Someone mentioned wis - I was at 280 unbuffed for the vast majority of my skilling from 190 on. For a while (during that stretch of bad luck) I thought it was bugged and was actually taking wis gear >off< on the off chance that I would get better increases that way.

              191 is getting me too

I've done 60+ griffon combines with 10 or so successes, and still 191

Mind you I'm not trying to actively skill baking up, just using the meat as I get it hunting in JP.

I probably should not say it, but Ohabah truffles are definitely the way to go from 191->202. If you are on Kane Bayle, I can even get you the brown algae you need. Of course with Dar Forager nerfed, you need to forage muchrooms again.

                  re

i have to agree with the truffles sentiment.

I had a really bad time in the 190's, trying everything i could. It would take in excess of 100, sometimes 200,combines to get skill points.

at 193, I started doing truffles. I averaged about 1 skill up in 18 combines from 193-202. Granted I did "farm" the dar forager some. I had about 40 mushrooms of my own that i foraged and vendor mined. Then I got 125 from the forager to start with. I had mushrooms left over when I got done. I was quite surprised with my good luck on these.

hmm.. I think I had 255 wis on my druid when I was in the 190s to 250, and it did take over 200 or so combines (wasn't really counting) to get from 199 to 200.

Although, I've been working on baking with my froglok paladin, and only have about 180 wis with c3 and assorted wis gear. From 191 to 192, it took me 162 ohabah truffle combines, I had a full 10 stacks of mushrooms to go thru, saved up a bunch, and bought some from merchant in Gukta whenever I passed. Even after I hit 192, I've done 118 more assorted combines, (38 truffle combines, and 80 HMP combines) still no more points gained.

I think that almost anyone who’s taken any trade skill to 200 can sympathize with you. I’ve had a single skill up take from 100 to over 200 combines in the 190 range in baking, pottery, brewing and fletching. And on more than one character. I tend to be a glutton for punishment. I can only remember two times that one of my characters made it to 200 in a trade skill without running face first into that invisible wall at least once. Unfortunately, with Halas Pies you have all those darn sub combines to do so it really hearts when you don’t get any skill from them. Brewers complain about having to make Minotaur Hero's Brew because it has nine components to its combine. I’ve made the hero brew run on two different characters now and its nothing compared to making Halas Pies. It may not be of much comfort, but believe me you aren’t alone.

Wis plays a huge part, I have 350 wis and went from 323 to 250 in two nights on MTP's. Got my spoon this morning. Get your wis up with a VOQ if you can and use a wis item in your primary and not the gearlock if you want to skillup faster.
