yes i did it recently and had to combine it in a summoned mixing boal via the chef chowderly quest, obtained 2 more and made them both in a vendor bought mixing boal

If you haven't completed the quest you can still learn the recipe, it just won't let you combine.

Ok maybe it's just too early, but how is that possible? I thought you only learned a recipe after a successfull combine? If you can't make the combine, you can't have a success, and therefore can't "learn" the combine.

/shrug. At I guess I'd say the processing order looks something like:

          1. check for success/failure.
          2. if success, learn the recipe if not known.
          3. check for quest flags.
          4. do the actual combine (i.e. eat the components and give you the new item).

Possibly a little illogical, but that seems to be what's happening - I noticed it on my tinkerer trying to make dark matter without having done the quest, and on my main doing wheat without having done the quest.

One way to learn a recipe is to do a successful combine (the experiment button ). So you can do combines before you know the recipe.

Learning the recipe in the new UI is different than knowing the items used in the combine

If you check the UI, you'll see the trivials for the refining combines are all 15, which means it's no-fail. When you do the combine, it automatically succeeds (which means you learn the recipe if you haven't learned it before), but instead of producing a result, it hands off the code to a script that checks whether you've done the quest. If you haven't, it returns your starting materials. If you have, it checks how many prior combines you've done and determines how many of the product you receive.

i dont remember exact numbers but i do know its alot. I havent gotten the wheat to that point yet but have done the fletching rocks, jewelcraft gems, and tailoring scales to that point.

When I was doing Taelosian stones for fletching, it started out with 1 per combine and then guadually went to 2. I think somewhere at about 50 combine it started doing 2 with guadual shift to 3 (2+1 per combine) and then started doing 4 when I was done with GoD fletching for skillups.

So unless you have lots of mountain wheat to play with, I'd stick with npc for conversion to flour since it's automatic yield 2.

First 4 stacks you get 1 or 1+1, somewhere in the fifth stack you get 2 every time. Three more stacks and you reach 2 or 2+1, then twelve more stacks till you reach 3 everytime. It varies a little bit from tradeskill to tradeskill, but you need somewhere between 380 and 400 combines to always get 3.

The data base shows mountain wheat as dropping in Riwwi as well, and someone on eqboards posted Riwwi as well. When I then went to riwwi and was hunting there I did occasional ooc and was told by a group that they had just gotten a regular wheat to drop.

So....can both types drop in riwwi? Or is the flag required to go to a deeper zone?

Its been massively annoying being stuck on not having access to a zone this old for a brand new recipe, be great if there is even a slight chance of actually getting the wheat in an open zone. (I know the tipt run is one groupable...you try talking people into getting a good group together to do content this ancient when they could be doing Por instead)

No it doesn't drop in Riwwi, only the keyed zones and above.
