  • mtps for skillups. is this gonna change?

did 195 combines for mtp this morning. would have been 200 but failed slicing one of my cakes. had 8 successful combines for 32 mtps and spent about 300-400 pp on getting all the ingredients. 5gp per fruit and vegie and 14pp for the two brownie parts in bazaar. would have liked a couple more sucesses but only expected about 1 in 20 so not to far off there. the problem is i went all the way from 192 to 195 on the whole 195 combines. 3 skillups. please tell me this is not normal just a hell level and now that i have done it i can expect a little better. i knew to expect something like this but 2 skillups in the first 4 stacks i was kinda ok with. 3 in 10 stacks of combines made me want to cry and join a support group. i had 255 int on all the combines. can get the stuff together for another 200 run next week but if i do can i expect any better? it took almost 2 hours of pure combining this morning to do it so it couldn't have been a streak in the rng. are mtps bad for skillups or what? i was thinking the hmp would be too expensive to make with the fennel and benzion not combines not yielding more than one but i will get about half my money back if i sell at 5pp each. for the time involved i was just hoping it would get better from here. please tell me it will.

I got to 200 in baking without doing an MTP. I got the good advice to get from 191 -> 200 (I'm capped there for a while as NTCM is not anyplace close to me) doing Ohabah Truffles.

I actually did 191->194 on candied cockroaches, foraging the cockroaches (and mooching them from other foragers) while grouping in PoJ.

Then 194->200 was a single fairly easy session of Ohabah truffles. Mushrooms are a very common Luclin forage. You could probably even make a level 1 woodelf forage bot and get many per hour. I am at 200 forage, so I spent one afternoon fishing and foraging in my Wisdom suit in Shadowhaven and got many mushrooms and maxed my fishing to boot. Then I scrounged the bazaar, etc.

A friend (Thanks Velurian!) got me the Brown Algae, as I have not yet done the faction work needed for Cobalt Scar. The rest was just running around PoK with a mixing bowl.

I think with hard combines like MTPs, the old-timers advise doing other stuff until you have no other real options, as the tedium of those will get you down.

I agree. I would suggest working on a recipe that closer to your trivial you're trying to hit. Truffles are a great way to go and cost much less (well, if you're foraging your own 'shrooms).

I'm working on MTP's now to get to 250; started on them at 200 (used up the shrooms I had, which was not many, and then dived into MTP's). It was pretty slow going and I've certainly had a few hell points of 100-200 combines without a skill up. Then one or two runs of 3-7 skill ups in a stack of combines.

      Just....random.

          hey all,
your in a hell lvl in general tradeskills
from 191 till 220 your gonna have streaks where you get no skillups sad to say
best thing to do as many have said is to work on something closer to your skill lvl
when patty melts trivaled on me at 191 I did alot of storm solomn fillets, candy cockroaches, and breaded storm solomn till I hit 202 .
I tried a run of 20 MTP at skill 200 and failed all the finally combines
now with a skill of 204 and geelock I have better success with them, not skillup points but actually making the picnics themselves
keep plugging away and sooner or later the RNG is gonna take pity on you

I got from 192 to 200 by doing Ohabah Truffles, with a few Griffon Melt combines when I could get the meat. (I was also doing Halas 10lb Meat Pies, but the last skill-up I got from those was the one that put me at 191)

I did 20 MTP combines at either 189 or 190. No successes OR skill-ups.

And don't forget about Planar Meats as an option. I have been scrounging and saving Jord, Vann, Swamp Rat, Mephit, Blood Raven, etc for about a month now and am gonna go on a rampage of planar combines in a week or two. All these recipes are >250 yet they are few combines and easy to aquire if you vendor dive a lot.

I got 250 with Jaggedpine recipes, when that zone first came out.

Toooo many sub-combines required to fool around with Halas pies or MTPs for this gnome.

And yeah, I had a point in the 190s where it took me over 300 combines to get up one point. Oy.

Savor the days where 1:20 was a realistic hope. That goes away long before 250 in any tradeskill.

At a skill of 218 I'm getting about 3-4 skill ups per 16 stacks of MTP combines (its a once a week thing). Keep in mind my INT is only 155 while baking. I'm too little to get KEI at lvl 23.

Once I pass 225 I'm goin on a click binge.

I really don't understand what you guys are complaining about MTP's...yeah, it has a few subcombines...which take about 5 minutes.

I did all of 200-250 in SH. Was not a big deal; whipped up 100 combine run of components, slam'em in the oven, rinse repeat.

Spent a few hours in Lesser Fay killing brown guards (I love killing brownies) and bought veg and fruit in the bazaar.

MTP's were nothing compared to solstice robes.

Hey, Chenier, I thought you had retired. Your posts suggests you have returned to game. I hope so.

Three skillups in that many combines is about right for picnics in that skill range. I did truffles from 191 to 202 (forgot the skillup ratio; I logged the sessions but don't want to dig through them now) but I cheated and bought mushrooms from the froglok vendor before they nerfed him. From 202 to 225 I did Halas pies, which were tolerable because I sold them all for decent profit in the bazaar. Now I'm doing picnics and at skill level 239 the success ratio is much better, so I'm actually making decent money for the effort.

I agree with the above posters; your skillup ratio will be better with items of slightly lower trivial, but of course picnics are easier to get ingredients for. Your choice; speed of getting ingredients or speed of skillups. In the end it probably evens out, but the monotony of making picnics sure gets to you at times.

                            Good luck

I did a combination of MTP and Holy Cake to get to 242, and now I'm doing the JP combines when I have the meat and plant shoots and MTP. I'm at 248 and holding it seems.

Both Holy Cake and MTP sell well in the bazaar on my server, so I have made my money back in ingredients plus a little extra. I price my MTP at 10pp each and they sell out fast.

The drawback to Holy Cake is that you need so many celestial essences for them, but I didn't mind that. I would wipe out the brownie village in Lesser Faydark, and while I was waiting for them to pop again, I would make celestial essence. Worked out well for me.

                              Best wishes,
