Dmg from the Distillate of Skinspikes

Has any one figured out the dmg that each level of Skinspikes do? I have been asked this several times. I know that the Skinspikes VI does 28 Dmg on my toon. Not sure about the others.

That seems a bit high? Skinspikes VI has a caster level of 25, and the effect is listed on Lucy as

"Increase Damage Shield by 1 (L1) to 36 (L70)"

-- basically the old TRUNC(level/2)+1 formula -- so I'd expect 13 points of Damage Shield from that, not 26....

Actually, the level VI potion has a required level of 25, but a caster level of 30, which jibes nicely with the 16 point DS that's been reported elsewhere. That still leaves 12 unaccounted for points; perhaps +DS items and/or a second (or third) DS stacked with it?

(Incidentally, in the Raw Item Data on Lucy, the potions' caster level is the field 'unknown137')

Seven minute duration is pretty pathetic, btw.


I sure hope the level X is considerably more damage and lasts alot longer or I kinda doubt the market on these will come close to what it was for Kilva's .. which even after the change is still 18pts/8 min duration.

Believe I'll be hoarding the old ones as I find them, myself.

Spikeskins VII was giving me a 21pt. DS. I know because I was doing 27pts and I have 6pts of +DS in gear.

Lasts 8.5 minutes.

Level X does 50 points damage and lasts 15 minutes. For as hard as the drops are to get, is still a little pathetic on the duration...but still cannot complain since the spell version don't last that long either.

Skinspikes overrides Ranger Buffs!!!

I used the skinspikes VI (required level of 25) on my 28 cleric. It did 16 damage for 7 minutes.

ALSO, note that this WILL override RANGER buffs.

I had a 52minute 4 point ranger DS on when I cast the skinspikes, and the ranger buff was overriden. I could've sworn that ranger buffs stacked with druid buffs. Considering that the skinspikes has the same icon as the druid DS, but not the ranger DS I would have thought that these two would have stacked.

Possibly a bug?

The original Kilva's potions would also overwrite the Ranger DS. They do stack with Mage DS though.

I'm probably missing something

Is the new distillate of skinspikes VI the highest level you can make now without having to farm? I used to use the old kilva's on my warrior, lvl 70... He got 36 damage from them, for 15 minutes. Skinspikes VI is doing 16 damage, for 5 minutes. The duration is not really bothering me, since they are so much cheaper to make... I just am a bit disappointed that i now seemingly have to farm things to make a potion that matches the DS that i used to be able to make with vendor ingredients

But i'm probably missing something, and one of you will put me right!

Unfortunately, you're not mistaken. I too feel that the best new vendor-only version should match the best old vendor-only version (and versions with farmed components should be significantly better), but this is in the hands of the Dev team.

Heh. Shards of ro are running 1k a pop in the baz. They make 2 powders so 2 potions, 500pp + other ingrediants. I used to pay about 500pp for a 10 dose Kilva's.

This is mind blowlingly stupid.

Skinspikes X: 55 DS (est 20 min duration not quite sure and wasn't wasting one to find out )

The pattern suggests

I 10 (11m)
II 15 (12m)
III 20 (13m)
IV 25 (14m)
V 30 (15m)
VI 35 (16m)
VII 40 (17m)
VIII 45 (18m)
IX 50 (19m)
X 55 (20m)

So at 35 we're where we were with the old ones (albiet with a shorter duration - Plus side, my warrior can now get off a DS potion in mid fight against most mobs whereas it was previously near impossible, thanks to the shorter casting time) and with the harder ones, you can get up to 20 extra DS.

You only need a level VI potion to match the Kilva's Skin of Flame damage - no drop components needed for that -- as a stickied post by Maddoc, one of the SOE devs in this very forum, states -- and you should be able to get 20 of those (they stack to 20 now btw) for well under 500pp. So, if something is 'mindblowingly stupid' around here, it's not the potions.

skinspikes x is yummy, i was pling my alt last night and 149ds is nice as a ranger, bought the only 20 potions ive seen in bax and im down to 9 left
