  • RL rant and rave altogether

Not gonna get into the whole sordid affair but will start at the end. My husband is a dink. He lost his wallet AGAIN. So I call in and have the atm cards "hot statused" the woman I spoke with was very knowledgeable and helpful. Got everything taken care of. Including letting me know that we had another ATM card "hot statused" and when I explained that card was lost (thus the status) and my matching card had been destroyed over a year ago she cheerfully "took care of it" in her computer. Then told me to just go online and order 2 new cards and all would be well.

So I did, there's a portion in my online account to "order new card" gotta fill in type/amount of cards along with picking a pin number. Filled it out, sent it in. Get an email the next day saying they can't send me a new card without the card number as I have more than one atm account open. I reply that this was supposedly taken care of by the person I spoke with, who incidentally is the one that TOLD me to send in the new card order. I included the card number and thanked them for their assistance. I also included the text from their email in my reply.

Late last night I get an email (with a different reference number) saying they can't send me a card without the type/amount of cards along with picking a pin number...followed by instructions on how to fill out the "order new card" form. /boggle. I reply that they HAD that information on file which is why they are having any contact with me in the first place. I included a copy of the email they sent me (needing the card number) as proof that they already had my order and this information. AND told her if she would read the email SHE responded to she would note the card number (plus the exact text I included in THIS email) there. But to speed the process I would also include the account number. Then went on to say I would not fill out yet another form until she could verify that I would not end up with 4 cards and 2 $20 charges from doing so.

What a headache! So when I got a message today saying I had new bankmail needless to say I was expecting yet another reference number followed by the complaint that I needed to include my bloodtype and mother's grandmother's maiden name since I do infact have more than 1 mother's grandmother... in order to process my request. However, much to my delight, I got this:

Please include the following line in any e-mail correspondence
regarding this issue: Contact number: ****<<&*(#$#*>> (note: this is the reference number that was on the original email HAHA!)
    ================================================== ============

Isn't that just wonderful? They figured out they goofed AND I'm not having to pay for my husband's goof of losing his wallet....again LMAO. After our weekend it's nice to have something go right again *sigh of relief*

Now if only the mechanic will decide not to charge me for the broken AC in my car... HA!

GADS! If that wasn't enough! Today I discover someone forged a check (one of the ones that was in the lost wallet) for $100 and it went through. NOW I'm trying to keep track of what information I'm supposed to be gathering for the police, bank, business where the check was cashed. Trying to explain that the police will NOT give the bank a report until they receive a copy of the affadavit of forgery FROM the bank...but the bank wants the ****ed police report before they'll accept the affadavit of forgery! AND the bank wants a copy of the driver's license...which was IN the lost wallet. THe business wants copies of the check that went through the bank plus an actual check (since the copy is in black and white) so they can go through their video and see if they can find the person. The officer told me not to count on anything good happening since this business has notoriously bad tapes. BUT I don't have a car here so I couldn't get the check stuff to them ANYWAY. GAAAHHHHH *bang head against wall*

Oh and the mechanic decided instead of not charging me for the ac repair (Ha! We've all got our dreams right?!) he would charge us $1900 for it. /die

*crawls under the bed and sobs*

Did I mention there is one more check that was in that wallet? Guess I'm gonna have to go through this TWICE.

*regresses to childhood and begins sucking her thumb while pulling her hair out one strand at a time" Mommy make it STOP!

Sorry to hear about the troubles Grimina,

But question... if you know there is one more check that was in the lost wallet... do you know the printed number on the check? Can you deduce it?

If so, have the bank refuse to pay against that SPECIFIC Check #. Essentialy Stop payment on Check # 123, regardless of who it was written to, or for how much. It might cost you $20 (or so, depending on the checking services) ... but being pro-active might help prevent some of the aggravation.

My girlfriend had her purse stolen from her car. She spent a couple months dealing with police, and people at garage sales, and all sorts of things. I don't know if they ever caught the woman that did it, either. *sigh*

If it helps, I'll send hugs....and cookies, too.

If I knew the check numbers it would have helped. I didn't know which check he grabbed (he put them in his wallet months ago for emergencies). One from each bank. One check has been "found" the other one I put a stop payment on a range of checks (like 5 total) since they do it for free, and let them know we would not be writing ANY checks on that account (no money in it anyway) so if any came through, they are forged. I also called all the local stores and let them know not to accept any checks with my husband's name as the signature even if the license is given (in case the person looks like my husband...not likely but with my luck..I ain't taking any chances).

If I had done this the day the wallet went missing it would have helped (well not with one of the banks...they charge $25 per stop payment and there were at least 8 gaps in check numbers and we don't have the money to do it) but we live in a small town, and I was stupid enough to think that the person would return the wallet instead of forging a check, or barring that...they would just take the cash in it and dump the danged thing. AND, there was always the thought that maybe he'd just misplaced it in the house though we'd torn the place apart looking for it. We were stupid, and we're paying for it.

The "up" side is that with a small town and a forged check, there is a much greater chance that the person will get caught. Perhaps its not nice but sometimes, the though of someone "getting their due" just plain feels good.

If you haven't yet, speak to the branch manager from the bank and explain that there IS no report without the affidavit. Alternately, contact the person who offered help in the letter you got that cleared up the problem with the ATM cards.

And don't beat yourself up over this. It's too late to change what happened, you can only learn and move on now. As the saying goes, the only mistakes we make are the ones we fail to learn from.
