  • Skill Up Paths and Quests

I thought I would start a quickie thread here to comment, instead of derailing the cultural thread. Ngreth has mentioned a couple times issues like stacking on quests that have been used for skill up paths. He is right, and the changes he have been adding to the tradeskill system will correct the problem.

Some of the tradeskills are getting a good look and revamp, but ulimately they probably all need it. Game designers in general have learned a lot from the experience of EQ over the years, and it's been long past the time when some adjustments were made.

My point is that the lack of foresight by Ngreth's predecessors made it so that the lack of viable skill up paths has made it so things like MCS's for smithing (part of an earring quest) have been the best skill up path...or Gem Studded Chains for JC. At many points over the years there have been opportunities to fix this and it's never been done...until now.

I once again applaud the efforts of our intrepid Ogre, and and implore Sony to stop listening to your Six Sigma Green Belt beancounters and make your game better even when you can't point specifically to a benefit to your bottom line. Making a better game will ultimately keep people playing (and paying), all of your LoN cash drains aside.

No way a green belter would think this stuff. Definately a black belter.

Reminds me of the Dilbert Cartoon where "studies show that most companies which have used Six Sigma have actually underperformed the SP 500."

SOE needs to relearn that hard-core raiders are not the entire EQ community, and gearing the game primarily to folks who can spend 20+ hours a week raiding drives more casual players to WoW or other pursuits. (Brell forbid that EQ might have the same popularity it had 6 years ago.)

Ngreth is a welcome point of light in Sony's design staff.

95th Dreadlord, Povar-Quellious, 300 Ogre Grand Master Smith, 300 all skills
(glad the climb to 300 is finally over)

      Zopharr
95th Priest of Brell, Povar-Quellious, 300 Dwarven Grand Master Smith, 300 all skills
(holds his 15% smithing trophy in his off hand and pretends to dual-wield - and hopes the Holy Dirt of Brell he's carried for twelve years will have a use in the new expansion)

      Rishathra
95th Shaman of Inny, Povar-Quellious, 300 Troll Grand Master Smith
(got so tired of looking for a troll smith for armor that I made one)

      Marzanna
      95th Necromancer, Povar-Quellious, 300 Tinker - Tailor
      (still working on Solder, Spy)

Shouldnt this post be better served if it was in Primal Scream rather then ranting in General ?

I wouldn't really define this as a rant. Seems it's in the appropriate forum to me.
