Well, a while back I got the stone for Dragon Fang, and everyone told me Keepers was easier to do ..
So I started working on Keepers faction
Finally got it to dubious a while back

And have been working on it for last few days..
    So far..
    3 raids
    1 blackwing mission
    1 creator
    8 solo missions
    13 guards

And Im dubious to Keepers still

Needed a place to rant about it ..

Norrath's Keepers and Dark Reign are equivalent in difficulty; the only difference is your starting faction with each side. Evil races are more likely to be hated by Norrath's Keepers, while good ones will be mistrusted by Dark Reign. Having said that, far more people sided with Norrath's Keepers than the Dark Reign, so it will be easier to find groups doing NK tasks than DR ones. Note that any person can take part in a task for either faction; you only get the faction hit for actually handing in the crystal at the end. You just need good faction to request the task, and someone else in your group can do that.

Do the solo tasks given out by the Wayfarer camp in Lavastorm. The faction hits for those quests are quite sizeable. Once you reach indifferent, you can start doing the normal group missions for faction.

Dubious faction is huge, relative to the other faction steps. (The same is true of warmly.) That will be your biggest obstacle. Once you reach apprehensive faction, it will move quite quickly until you hit warmly, at which point it will slow down again.

Been using the ones in the "neutral" camp for a while now (is what I refer to as a solo mission)

Funny part is about 10 minutes after I posted this I hit apprehensive

I hear you on the faction. Who would have ever thought that a Barbarian Berzerker would have started kos to NK? Needless to say... it was a rather annoying trek to Apprehensive... but after I got apprehensive, it was a quick jump to amiable.

My biggest complaint about the DoN faction was the split camps. Unless everyone you ever group with is on the same side, you'll end up doing missions for the wrong side occasionally and not getting the faction hit you need.

I'm on "good" faction, and I figure about 65% of my missions are "good", while the other 35% are "evil". Because you go on raids or groups and the person leading wants evil side, you get the wrong token.

So about 35% of all missions I do in DoN are wasted in terms of faction, making it take that much longer to get to ally.

After all this time, I'm still warmly. . .

Yeah, getting up to where you can turn in mission 'tears' (the tokens) is the hard part. My DE enchanter never got enough faction with the Keepers to overcome being a dark elf, since most of the server was on Keepers.

But my good cleric only needed to do a couple, and then faction seemed to fly by... iirc less then 20 creators to get to warmly... then less then 30 nest/misc raids to get to ally... then about 20 more to max out. (Yes, I spent a LOT of time in creator/nest missions. Just think of all the MDS you'll get.)

Moral of the story: don't switch faction sides. While most of the server is good, you get the same number of crystals and no negative faction hits for doing "wrong side" missions. (Just don't turn the token in, and usually you can't even if you wanted to, because you don't have high enough faction with the other side.)

            1) Before you get too high a faction with either side, buy enough crystals from each side to get the "lore" nice stat/resist/proc/mana regen augments of both sides. Then you can have two full sets of those. And you can sell one set back if you outgrow them. But if you don't buy them, and then decide it would be nice to "double up" ... too late.

            2) Do the "tier quests" of every level. Completing them seems to be a big faction bonus. Plus doing those group/raid missions seems to be a bigger faction boost than just doing creator/nest missions.

            3) Go along with "other side" missions. Because you can always trade the crystals for your side, and occasionally at a premium. I generally trade one for one (or give them to friends on Dark Reign) but sometimes people who are desperate for the "evil" crystals (having less considerate friends) will offer more of their unuseable Radiant for your Ebon.

            ymmv, im(ns)ho, yada yada

Best of luck, maybe you can find others toiling away at the same task and make a few friends. (Couple of people still on my /friend list who I met way back before DoDh while trying to grind up faction.)

I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Itek, I believe this is not actually the case. The DoN items merchant will still sell items to you even if your factions is KoS to the rest of them - you've just got to be careful getting to the item merchant, but it can be done (invis and standing in the right place should be enough - just don't forget to re-invis before you leave... )

None of the NPC's inside the camps will attack you, even when KOS. Only the guards will attack. You can use invis to get into the camp, at which point you can drop invis, chat with NPCs (they'll just insult you), buy with the crystals merchant (but not the cash merchant; he/she won't interact with you), and laugh at the other players who wonder how you're there and not dead.

You can buy from either side at any faction
                  Even without sneak /invis etc
Easy enough for me to get into either camp, seeing as im a monk (FD FTW?)
Indifferent now and finished with teir 1 DoN

I still find it hilarious that I posted this and within 10 minutes had apprehensive faction, and within a few hours (did DoN raids that night) I had indifferent ..

I've been trying to use the solo tasks to raise faction, but it's a royal pain. At level 57 with one group of characters that includes some crowd control, and 65-66 with a duo that doesn't, the tasks are doable but tedious, and so far haven't made a dent in the faction categories (admittedly one is at dubious, which I know is a wide range). What I find most annoying, though, is that the NPCs who assign the solo tasks are amazingly stubborn about offering only certain tasks to each character, but different characters get offered different choices. The easiest task by far at my level is gather lavaspinner silks, and with the level 57 threesome we'll find two of the characters get offered that task right away, but the third character keeps getting offered stuff in Stillmoon and other tasks we can't possibly do yet. But if she sits and asks again, maybe for an hour (LITERALLY), or logs out and logs back in a dozen or more times over the course of a week, EVENTUALLY the NPC will offer her the silk task, after which we can all go to the same area and do the three tasks together.

                    Really stupid design.

Hmm... didn't know the non-merchants marked KoS wouldn't attack. I generally prefer not to risk, let alone find out first hand, such things. Being an enchanter before and a tiny gimpy hobbit now lead me to be ... sneaky ... around bigger creatures flaged "scowls at you ready to attack."

Unlike normal vendors, browsing the DoN and TBS curency vendors doesn't drop invis. Not that it matters, for DoN, since nothing in the camp will attack, but it is nice when you are browsing the pirate vendor.

Since you mentioned that, someone may report it as a possible exploitable bug and SOE would then nerf that so invis will drop anyway.

No more easy pirate vendor dealing.

I can personally attest to the fact that things on the way to the evil DoN camp will attack my paladin, so I think invis is a very good idea.
