  • The Fine Print

Making tradeskilled jewelry, armor and augments has enabled me to earn a lot of platinum in Everquest, more than I would ever have thought possible. The money is nice but providing something truly valuable to another player brings me great joy.

But I've noticed a tendency of some customers to engage in behavior that sadly mimics the way real life society has been heading in recent years. It amazes me the way people absolutely refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes and seek to blame anyone but themselves. Pursuant to that I have begun to work on a "fine print" hotkey.

"Thank you for choosing Squeaky's Secret Tradeskilling Conglomerate for your tradeskill needs. Please keep in mind that Squeaky' Secret bears no responsibility for mistakes related to the following reasons:

    1) Confusion over diety augs. Storms = Karana and Growth = Tunare. Terror = Cazic-Thule and Hate = Innoruuk. Please know your diety!
    2) Confusion over slots. Bracer = Wrist and Arms = Sleeves. Please keep that in mind.
    3) Dropped or destoyed items. If your inventory is full and you drop items on the ground that poof or are picked up by others, that is a result of your lack of foresight. If you accidentally destroy an item or bag of items I have made for you it is still your responsibility to pay for them.
    4) Even trivial items can be fizzled. It happens. I make no guarantees implicit or expressed that I will succeed on a combine.
    5) Please pay close attention to class, level and race restrictions. Make sure that you can use the item before you request it to be made.

It just boggles the mind that people would demand refunds or replacements of an item if it is a result of making a mistake. I liken it to cashing a paycheck at the bank, walking out the bank door and then dropping the cash down the sewer and having it wash away. I doubt the bank would be sympathetic and re-cash your check due to your carelessness.

    Sigh, I feel better already.

i have that with alot of my merchandise. helps when petitioning aswell.
I use all comm trough a tell window. That way i can seperate them from all other chatter and do a nice and easy /report. Once petition is filed odes not take more then a day or two and items usually returned to me.
Note: Due to a hand injury caused by a friend throwing a broken scissor into my hand my typing = crap. So dotn be so critical.

I've had that happen with drakkin armour- anyone who has ever been to EW for wooly rhino horns knows that there's no point in trying to make Expert's drakkin plate. So one day I get a request for some Expert's armour, I say that is not something I have ever nor will ever make, so he suggests Master's armour... for a 40 drakkin bard. I sold it to him and a few mins later once he realized he couldn't wear it for another 15 levels he started sending my trader nasty tells. /ignore is your friend.

A mistake on your part does not make an emergency on my part. /mantra

On the other hand in regards to making no claims about failure/success on combines- on my shammie with 345 modified skill I will mention that I have a 95% success rate. I'm not the only alchemist on Maelin that makes that claim. I simply use that number from my own experience- out of I believe 50 oow augs I've made I have failed twice *knocks on a Woodelf for luck*

At the same time when someone comes to me wanting ^UBER PURE EFFECT AUG^, I simply ask them to provide me with the raw aug and discordant sciorae and I tell them that I may fail. For me it works better because then 1) I don't have to stand a chance at losing a ton of plat and 2) Because of #1 that I don't have to mark up that aug to high heaven- I merely charge for the slugworms/trean flies plus a very modest fee.

Another common mistakes: newly created or bought aug won't fit. I get at least 1 DoN aug complaint in general channel or /ooc a week because they don't think to check and make sure the slot number matches up first.

You can't force a slot 11 aug into slot 8 armor.
