  • I wasn't littering, I swear!

Passing through Shar Vahl tonight, I saw a blue diamond on one of the vendors near the entrance. Unfortunately it was a greedy vendor, and charging a lot more than I would usually pay. So I went to the bank to equip my three highest trophies for a cha boost, to see if that helped at all...

"There was no place to put that! The item has dropped to the ground."
immediately: "Khala Dun Grerath says, 'This Festive Doll looks nice.'"

NOOOOOO! I'm trying to decide whether I have a better chance getting it back by petitioning or attacking the smug feline. I'm not feeling very optimistic about either option.

Too bad I didn't bother grabbing one for my alts. I guess I can wait until next anniversary... it was such a good range slot item for me, though. Darn overly-zealous anthropomorphic environmentalists...

    /comfort Orelli

As much as I love my EQ home town, there are some aspects that make me wonder how come Vah Shir can play classes other than Rogue.

Your best chance is a petition to get the item back. Killing the NPC would not return you the item AFAIK.

I am fairly sure that the action they take is:
      "delete item"
      "Say text"

So no, no item on the NPC.

I figured the chance of recovering the item from the guard was slim to none, but it would have been.. therapeutic. Of course, attacking a guard in town would probably just end up with me doing a corpse run.

I have petitioned in game, and I have gotten a response stating that items can not be reimbursed when guards pick them up. I'm going to try again, emphasizing that since the guard picked the item up immediately, I didn't really have a chance to recover it myself.

Thanks for the comfort, guys. It's really not that big of a deal, but it made me sad. I play on Povar, Verdandi.

Awww, not my server; I have alts with them that don't really use them. Chances were slim, but thought it worth a shot.

The response to your petition sounds like what I've heard from people with similar problems in the past. Shar Vahl guards aren't the only ones that pick up things, because I know it happened before Luclin. But I can't say where.

              Yay!

I petitioned again, and this time a GM contacted me and said he was going to reimburse it. I was a little surprised though, he said he had no record of it dropping and was reimbursing it because of the 'benefit of the doubt.' I thought things like that were pretty well documented. Oh well, I'm happy that I have my cute little dolly - *ahem* I mean my Manly Action Figure of Ranger Power back.

                  Awesome news. =)

For future reference, you'll probably have a better shot at getting the item reimbursed if you /report the line where the guard says he picked it up. That way, the GM's at least have evidence that the item got destroyed, and with a little work they can check your character history to confirm that you actually had it at one point. It makes your case much easier for them to confirm.

In Qeynos, in the one of the empty houses where I had been able to transfer items between accounts for some time, I dropped an item and it disapeared. No messages, room was empty except for me and the door never opened. Tried a couple times more with a couple items I didn't really care about and - poof.

I always had the best luck running up on a zone wall a bit or on top of a rock formation to drop items and switch toons. I think I only lost items once doing it that way. Mostly did that just outside Neriak transfering from my KoS druid to my little DE chanter to enchant the silver and clay for me.

I used to use one of the empty cells under the arena in Freeport. It was easy to tell if anyone was following me because nobody was ever down there otherwise. No npcs anywhere close except the prisoners, who were a couple cells away. I never lost anything, although I didn't do it often.
