I've had good sized donations, but you know what? the ones that stick in my mind were from when I was a newbie, working my first tradeskill (baking) ... at level 40 I took a month off from XP ing (this was 4+ years ago) and did nothing but bake. I had a guildee who paid me 1k every week just to help, When I was lucky to have 100p in my bank normally. And everyone else in the guild donated anything they had that was a forage or meat drop.. I had to take that month just to use up enough stuff that I had room to do something else.. I gave all the food I made to our guild in return.... as a matter of fact I was making so much food at that time, I kept 2 full guilds fed for about 6 months. My guild at that time had about 80 active members +another 200 alts.... and then a friend's guild with about 60 active members.

      oooh,that reminds me..
i would never have gotten my tailoring to 250 (max back then),if it wasnt for the guy i called my tailoring sponsor.

he gave me everything i needed! hopper hides, acrylia boning, tannings,ect..
i then gave him back everything i made. i cant even begin to imagne what a huge money sink it must have been for him.
he quit eq when i was at 242,saying now i was big enough to take care of myself.
he is still the main reason why i got it to 300. learned a lot from him.
he did indeed donate a lot of pp into my tradeskills.

thx Careliel / Adawen ,though i know you will prolly never read this.

I have a hotkey set for buffing in PoK. with the line "Please help support my tradeskill addiction". Had a guy come up and ask me what i was skilling up on. when i said smithing/tailoring. he replied "ouch, good luck" then dropped 20k into my trade window.

8 Metallic Drake Scales (= ~230Kpp on our server) that were left over after making a GM Cuirass and arms for an SK in our raid force. I would have done it for cost, but he insisted I take the leftovers. That alone has financed most of my current push from 1750 to 2100.

I apologize for bumping an old thread but I wanted to share my warm and fuzzy story.

I had just zoned in to my guild hall from the guild lobby when I got a tell from someone asking if he could donate for an oak. I didn't know where he was because a /w all xname showed him anon so I responded that I had just zoned in to my guild hall and he told me he was right outside. So I zoned back out to cast oak on him and he popped 500pp in the trade window. I cancelled it because #1- I rarely take donations for buffs and #2- that was entirely too much! He asked me to please take it so I graciously accepted

I thanked him and said that my tradeskill addiction thanked him. He then popped another 4kp , yup 4000pp in my trade window and remarked that the world of Norrath needs more tradeskillers. I was so completely shocked that I couldn't even come up with the words to thank him properly

OK seeing as i have read this board for a very long time before even registering i felt i should pass along my story.

Not long ago i was working on a few sickles for some tribute for an alt. A random bard i did not know wanders past the forge and asked what i was making. I responded with MCS and he asked if i would make him a few. I said ok feeling that i had made a good deal because he offer to supply material and pp for molds and i would get a few skill up chances.

About 15 minutes later he came bag with 160 combines worth of materials and patiently muled around his 3 box toons for what ended up being a 16 point skill up run.

Wow, the most generous donation of all, his time, and his understanding of tradeskills, and best of all, 16 skill ups. Don't think that donation will be topped for true value.

                  largest donation

a while ago my gnome did the combines for the AAAA 26 sets of subcombines and 23 final tries, getting 22 in total, got about 1k for that. Hmm, er, uh, top that if you can.

Mine is a two part story.

Back when I was a very fresh 60 enc, I was of course casting kei in pok. I was new at it and could get swamped very easily. So while I was trying to keep up, a guy pops a little over 13k in my trade window. I was in total shock and quickly hit trade, I keied the guy, he thanked me and went on his way. Now at this point I am dreaming about how I should use this money. Should I use for tradeskills or for future spells, command of druzzil being the one I wanted to make sure was banked for 64. After a few minutes though the amount just didn't sit right with me I tried to tell myself "we'll this is an old server probably just a rich guy throwing around platium" or I tried to justify it with who knows what people donate I am still really new at this.

None of those excuses felt right to me though. So being who I am (a tightwad who tries to be fair) I sent the guy a tell asking if he meant to donate that much. He asked how much did he donate? So at this point I am thinking ok something is up. He explains that he has some rare brain disease amoung other things and gets really forgetfull at times. I said ok I got your money and I'll meet you back in pok I returned his plat minus of course 35pp which was about the average donation for me at the time.

Now a few months pass by and I am a freshly minted 65 chanter still happily keing away in pok for plat and my cousin who dosen't play the game or ever will is over and he says to me "didn't you always say you would kei sometimes for free when you got to lvl 60"? He was right of course I did say that after the many times I was forced by my addiction to buy it pok. I would angerily anouce to whichever friend was over visiting that one day I would kei everyone for free. Right after I got hooked I went and looked up how much a donation should be found out it was 1pp per lvl and I stuck by that. It hurt sometimes at low lvls on your first toon to drop that kind of plat but fair is fair.

I got addicted at lvl 32 by a kind or not so kind chanter in nexus keing for hugs. I thought I'd see what the big hubbub was all about. I honestly at that time had no idea that it was even part of the clarity line and that was what I was using till that day. After that kei my game play went totally out the window for quite some time. I totally gave up charming and just ran around nuking like I was a wannabe wizzie.

Anyways right after my cousin said that. I made a hot key for free kei and a little while after I started doing this. I get a tell from the same guy that by accident gave me that 13k. He tells me that I am an nice guy for doing this as well as honest for the 13k deal. He asks me what 65 spells I had at the time I replied "none that matter". He told me to follow him and we went to the chanter pop spell guy and he turned in two runes for me. I got VOQ and the froggie spell. He said he was hoping I got VQ because he was addicted to haste. I told him I was saving up for VOQ first and it was more expensive but now with that spell already I had more then enough to buy VQ.

It was one of those days that really made me glad to play the game. I always made sure to keep that pally buffed whenever he needed it and he managed to get me a lot of tradeskill components that were out of my reach as I had no planes flags. Sadly I think his afflictions got the best of him because its been years now since I heard from him and I knew from talking it was a progressive disorder.

Of all the years I've been tradeskilling I think the most I've ever gotten was of a highend tailoring item i think was about 10k. I never charged for services before. Way back when, people would just ask me how much for X combine and I say whatever you think is appropiate. Some people of course took advantage and give me 100p for something that goes for ten fold that times in the bazaar. One person I followed after I made an item for turned around and went to the bazaar and the item went up for sale. Now-a-days I just kinda go by gut feeling. Being a 2100 club tradeskiller and helping people out means more than me than the money I make off tradeskilling. But I hate my kindness being taken advantage of. I'm sure many have struggled for a happy medium.

OK.. First off, beat me over the head for Thread ressurrection, I know...

BUT..... I just got a 50k tip after getting paid for making 6k CE's for a guy!
days and days of work...but wow.. was NOT expecting that! and when I tried to not accept it he told me that it was payment for 1 weeks worth of my time when I could have been Xp'ing. (and I did xp during the time.. just not tons)

Ahh. This was a good bump, don't feel bad!

Last weekend I made 3 full sets of Intricate Human plate armor for a repeat customer (already purchased 5 full sets of Elaborate Human plate & chain from me). I charged him just for the cost of the gravel at the time (about 2k per, so about 85k in parts) and he ended up giving me 500k for the quick turn around! I was ! He said "Now hit 300 already!"
