    When I least expected it

    1) My first 10 minutes as newbie wood elf druid. While trying to deliver a note to my guildmaster, I fell off the platform, died, and corpse rotted in 30 mins while I tried to find something called an "elevator"... (Kunark was the newest expansion and they had different rules on rotting back then..tramatised for years cause of that one )

    2) Same WE druid about lvl 8 exploring the stange lesser faydark zone runs along the hills into a dark elf camp and gets nuked for 512 damage by some Priestess or other (pretty impressive since I probably had about 200 hps). Corpse rots cause I am too embarressed to tell any one and too scared to try a CR...

    3) Chessboard in BB was prety cool until a Knight spawned right on top of me in the corner...

    4) Same WE druid about lvl 10 drowns when the ship zoned from BB to OOT and left before I zoned in. I did not know page up was needed to swim up...

    5) Same WE Druid about lvl 12 exploring a neat zone call Nekulos forest comes up on some DE Pally looking types and strolls up to say Howdy!

    6) WE Druid, lvl 14 (with SoW now ) Sees a Hill Giant in WC and runs up to hail it before conning it. Communication was a short, nonverbal, exchange with me being too stunned to run away...

    7) Owned by an Orc Pawn... (Before the lastest changes to have corpses rot away slowly, I use to cast my DS and sit in the orc pawn path in EC and watch from an altered view as the orc pawns would hit me and pop...)

    8) While medding at the Docks in Oasis, unexpected deaths usually started and ended by "You have been slain by (a specter, a sand giant, Lockjaw, Cazil, etc..)

    9) Then there are the set where I have rooted, DoTted, or Nuked myself to death while fighting after I target myself for a heal and forget to retarget the mob....My resists are high enough these days I can usually survive one...

    10) During the plague times, I built up faction in a number of places like Oggok doing the bread delivery quest to merchants. In wolf form all the ogres lubbed me except the shamans. They run at SoW speeds and hit for multiple 300s...

    11) What idiots idea was it to put a Dragon next to a Druid port in place in WL?!?!

    12) Same dragon years later with max Ally COV faction kills me on a port in cause I arrive as a raid is being wiped and I get AE nuked 3 times before I can run out of range...

    13) Whos brilliant idea was it to have non-see inv mobs smart enough to follow invised peeps dragging corpses?!?! (a feature in Velious I notice has not made it to the last 7 or 8 expansions...)

    14) Fell for 20k damage in Stoneburnt when it first came out. Cust serve answered petition and rezzed me in a safe place and a raging kobold killed me again before I could loot ("Oops Guess this isn't the safe spot in this zone hehe" was all the guy said after he rezzed me again ).

    15) Others were things like being in a zone when they repopped it without warning and all the mobs, including the boss respawned immediately all around you... (now the bosses are a bit more random on spawns).

    16) Equestrial the Corrupted was endowed with zone wide track awhile back. lfay was a dangerous place to do Mistmore LDoNs for a time...

    17) More recently, I finally decided to see if I could get up on that high stone bridge in Trakanon. Met a con red char (to my lvl 68 druid) that cons indiff. Go up and hail it, it cast silence on me and gives me a short time to give it something it wants. When time is up, a number of mobs it summoned preceed to kill me before I can get exodus off (can't cast when silenced). When I return to PoK, exodus goes off and dumps me near PoT zone in to PoK wasting my exodus...

Of course these days I have made a virtue of the inevitable and say no zone has been officially explored if I have not left at least one corpse there...

Lol and way to many more to even think about.

Running around EK when I was level 35 or so farming spider silks to begin tailoring all of the sudden loading please wait appears on my screen. I get to PoK where I was bound and scroll up to see who killed me. Theoris Bladespur? Who is this?

So, I go back to EK and start tracking looking for this Theoris Bladespur hoping he's standing on my corpse and assuming he's a DE like the one that killed me in West Commons the other day. I wander to the top of the hill and once again loading please wait... WTH? He wasn't even on my tracking. How did he hit me?

So, I scroll through the text. Now it's some guy named Proon... I've been in East Karana for almost three whole days and have never seen these guys before. How did I lose all this faction? So, I go back to find my corpse because I have my only Smoldering Brand on her and other amazing gear as well.

This time at least I know I'm at the top of Crag Hill. Searching around for my latest corpse basically just hitting /corpse social as I run around in circles. Loading please wait! Again?! Proon the third time.

I /ooc'd when I got to pok for help in karana locating a corpse. I got a response from a necro friend who said he'd summon it for me. So, I get him in group and port him to NK not knowing at the time that necros were kos to the druids at the North Karana port in. As you can imagine he starts losing life so I heal him and we both go splat. Well, at least I know where that corpse is. Finally got all four corpses back no rezes for me and lost half my level that day but I learned a very valuable lesson. Now I know why necros won't port with druids and why people would pay for a port to the Karanas. Can we say LONG run? And that was after PoP.

My husband's not mine - He was going through this phase back in the day when Hill Giants were the easiest way to make plat where he would sit out there for hours at a time farming them. But with all those fine steel weapons on him he'd get encumbered and have to find a vendor. So, one day he got the brilliant idea that since he was a level 45 druid with all these port spells at his disposal he could bind himself in Rathe Mountains instead of having to run through Feerott every 20 minutes or so after emptying his bags.

Everything is going fine he's making plenty of plat then a guildie needs help with a raid he's trying to organize so off goes my husband to help out I forget where. About 1 minute after the raid starts he dies. Back to bind point ON Hill Giant Hill in Rathe Mountains. He lands and is quickly attacked. With no clothes and no buffs you can probably imagine what happened next. Death loop over and over and over. He piled up 15 corpses before finally running the giants far enough away from his bind point to be able to die and port before they got back to him.

Since then he's been much more careful where he binds in a zone. Zoning a lot might not be fun but zoning 15 times from dying within 10 minutes is a whole lot less fun.

Hehe, long time ago doing something in sky we were meeting the wizzie at the spires in Tox. ~10 of us scattered around near the scion. I had bet an SK he couldn't hit the scion and get FD off.

I was correct, Sk died. And then the Nexus scion slaughtered the bard that was sitting afk playing ae mana, lol.

This happened just last night. My guild was doing a raid in WoS and we were clearing out the middle of the zone when Velitorkin spawned right on top of us. We weren't prepared for that a and he one rounded half of the clerics, tossed a monk in the wrong direction that brought us a few more adds. Half of us died and other half trained to MPG. I was one of the last few to die, having stayed there to distract mobs and give the surviving cleric a chance to zone.

I have run through Takish Ruins to get to Elddar probably at least a dozen times by now, with no problems. It's a pretty short run, so I can usually count on invis to stay up long enough to make it. I always run past the little bush-looking things, because that's how I found my way the first time and I'm a creature of habit. But then, today I see... Gravewalker begins to cast a spell. Uh oh, a named that can see through invis... well, I'm half way to the ZL and these guys are all dark blue to me, so I should be able to run. Right, except for the 400 damage root and the subsequent beatings...

I spend a lot of my time doing low-risk tradeskill related things, so it's been a while since I died. I guess I was probably due. Note to self: it never hurts to con things first.

Heh ouch. I usually run on the other side of that building away from those bushes. Haven't found any see invis mob in that area yet but I did get chased by a dark blue con named horse.

Having tried most classes over a period of a year (this is back in 2000ish or about 6 months after Luclin - can't remember date), I decided to try a kitty bard.
Got her to level 10 and decided to head to West Commonlands. Well there was not many in zone and I had heard many stories about bards dot kiting.
Well I decided to give it a go. First few bears not a problem. I tried again...
"oh great, the willowisps decided to join". Even I knew back then that they liked to help their friends.
So here I am, running round like mad, dotting and trying to heal myself.
I had a very nasty train on my tail.
Flash of thought.. turn dot off, run through guards (as I knew they would kill everything other than the wisps).
More running, washing, rinsing and 1.5hrs!!! later.. I kill 12 wisp (7 GLS, 2LS and 3 duds )
Needless to say my wrist was sore but the exp bar looked healthy

Learning the ways of The Curse

*Slowly pulls up a chair while resting on his cane and sits as if it were taking all the energy he had left in doing so. Once seated he rests his hands on his cane, his false teeth threatening to pop out with every word*

                      Ah yes, those days...

The days when it was all the rage for the newcommer to type "hail" to a Qeynos guard, forgetting to press the Enter button as the first step ("Hail, Corporal Lancot", /autoattack, Inventory opens... LOADING, please wait...)

The days when a shaman would sit in West Commons, at the Kithicor zone-out, awaiting a slower friend. The days when that same shaman would climb up the side of the canyon to allow free access to the busy traffic. The days when that shaman would sit down and slide down 1" to 2" for a falling death of 20,000 damage.

The days when taking a single step on a staircase could mean instant death (we were rather fragile back in the day).

The days when a run across West Karana gave one the chance of leaving the PC, going to the kitchen, making something to eat, a cup of coffee, answer the phone for an extended period of time or simply fall asleep sitting down for that fashionable 'keyboard face' look. Those days one awoke to find his monkey standing quietly at his bind point and scrolling up to discover a list of 'death by drowning' messages.

The days when one did not learn from oh, so many previous similar (or exactly the same) mistakes, as one sat alone beholding large skeletons in a certain zone, on a certain moon. When one is yet to buy an EB item. When one purely relies on fish scales or Waterstones to keep him from breathing. When one plays a few minutes too late. When one wakes up back in his bind spot, 5 zones (30 min-1 hour's run/zoning time) away... When one does exactly the same say... oh... 2 hours later?...

*The old man continues to ramble on (and on, and on, and on)...*

My chanter gnome, is still working on her epic 1 and indifferent to the scorpidis so I say to my friends "let me run there and park, then I wake druid so she can come and hunt there with you". Plan being chanter zone in for key, then gates back to POK, and druid zones in for some hunting.
I tell our MT, who also happens to be the druids ingame husband, wait here for {friend nr 2} while I run there. Off my gnome runs with her levi and throws herself into the gorge right in front of the entrance to the HS zone.
And while I float peacefully down I suddenly see 2 nude legs appear at the top of my screen, then 2 knees, nekkid barbarian buttocks and in a flash our MT overtakes me in the descent to the bottom of the gorge in OT.
By the time I arrive at the bottom, his body is spread out in a pool of gore.
couple of minutes later a string of swearing asking what the heck had happened (laughing again while writing this)?
MT had gone on auto follow as standard, and then needed to go afk 2 secs but forgot to tell me he was afk & on auto.

3 of us nearly died laughing as it was so very funny, he arrived back just seeing a flash of grey (stone walls) and the ..loading please wait... message.

But then we at times do very 'stoopid' things, like the time my DE rogue sees a guard attack a friend in Nektulous and (being in first view and completely forgetting I am not my KoS Druid) I help the friend out and get a major faction hit. Kick self and now approx 100 stacks of ratwiskers later I am amiable to Neriak traders but still very aprehesive to guards
as far as getting better faction with the guards there is a dude in 3rd gate in the library...alone in the room with the book in the display stand thing....hes a lush....just bring lots and lots of red wine be allied in no time

Way back when the lands of Velious had just been discovered I had a fine young dwarven cleric. I had been around alot. I had soloed most of Unrest, found the darkness that was Kithcore at night, plunged into the depths of Runnyeye, and even seen some of the depths of horror that was Mistmoore. After one of raids my fellow guildmates had attempted on that vile castle one of the noble halfling druids told us of a wonderous land called Dreadlands. He claimed we would be able to defeat the vile beasts there with the use of his mighty snare spell. So off we go in a magical whirlwind to a place known as the Hidden Vale.

The druid quickly endows us with SoW and Levitate and he leads our intrepid band through a shimmer tunnel of ice filled with very nasty sasquathes, fortunately being slain by others. As we emerge from the cave a vast wonderland of icy mountains and and forest appears before our astonished eyes. We follow our leader across this vast land far above the heads of the creatures far below. Then the other cleric, a human as it goes, says something about that being a beautiful dragon.

Next thing I know I am outside of Mistmoore again naked and very afraid. Gonegoire (or whatever its name was) killed me so fast that all the computer registered was their icy breath, not even bothering with the numbers, just your dead. Since I was a mighty 31st cleric at the time with mostly bronze plate and a mighty black iron mace I don't suppose I really deserved to know exactly how many times that breath could have killed me in a shot. Must have taken 40 minutes to get everyone back together and ressed. With an added death in the meantime when we tried to go back through the cave. This time with no one clearing it first.

My group and I are playing in Dreadspire, killing and exploring on our first or second trip. We stop in the ballroom and watch a minute, then I crack open that door and ease in until I can see KoS mobs in what I now know as the lab.

We had not spent enough time to understand the assist mechanisms. I back my group into the library hall, we get everyone invised, and I head off with plans for the mage to CoH me if bad things happen.

I sneak in, cast snare on a werewolf, and run into the ballroom and N to the arch there to see what happens.

Bad things happen, that first werewolf brought a twin, and a vampire, and EVERYTHING in the room assisted. As soon as the mage sees the train she starts CoH'ing. CoH lands at the same instant the vampire sticks charm.

I pop back to group, charmed, but not moving. Everything anywhere close comes running back and destroys the mage, I surmise it was ballroom mobs (who are not normally KoS) that got there first. As soon as the mage dies everything stops moving, then slowly begins to path away, 10 seconds or so late charm wore off and 5 of us were standing there without agro. To this day we are not sure exactly what set off that event, but the mage is leery to CoH around charming nameds lol.

                                Back in the day

Fighting some mobs in Cobalt Scar with a friend of mine. I being a level 60 something druid and more importantly a 250 tailor at the time, we were fighting the mobs who are at the end of the beach near the Skyshrine zone, Bul...something or another. While we were fighting the mobs, we got a few too many interested in us and I decided to get us out of there.

At this time I should remind you that I was a tailor, and started at the time when Vellious had just come out. Back when you had to run from IceClad all the way to Cobalt Scar once before you could ever port in. Well, I made the run on my level 30 b-day as I needed to start working on Vellious tailoring at the time as my skill was too high for anything else (tailoring used to have no recipes beyond backpacks until you got to Vellious tailoring). I knew that I was going to need to start working on that stuff to continue raising skill and I ran through IceClad, GD, Kael Drakkal (stopped to join a raid to increase my dragon faction, doing damage to the mobs with level 60 characters killing it, gained the faction I needed.) I then ran through Wakening Lands and Skyshrine and managed to get my tooth at the CS port in location (old timers know what I mean).

After making it this far, I looked around and noticed that there were these mobs called "Othmir Pups" and I would be able to kill them as they were green to me. I says to myself, "Hey, I bet they have fur on them" and I proceed to harmony and pull individuals and start killing while letting others know I need the hides from wyverns and drakes. I managed to kill enough Othmir later in the day to work my way up in levels and never thought about it again. Until...back to the story.

I decide with my friend that we have attracted too much attention fighting these mobs in CS and the roots are not holding like they should, so we don't port out, will take too much time, instead we use the druid gate spell that brings you to a spot within the zone quickly (succor or something like that), I died (druids might know where this spell lands you if you use it). After I zone back in at my bind, I ask my friend if he is still alive, he responds yes, and I literally fall out of my chair laughing as I /consent him to drag my corpse.

                                The Othmir never forget....
