I made the mistake of going AFK for an hour or so in High Pass (after PoP, but before anything else). I was level 50-something, and figured nothing would bother me, right? WRONG!

I come back to find myself at my bind point, with no clue as to what happened until I went through my log file. Seems that some of the gnolls came by and thought I'd make a great dinner, especially since I didn't fight back. But - it took them over ten minutes to kill me.

Now I'm a lot more careful when I have to pull an extended AFK.

Slipgear augment quest without a map at that time, took me two 20K dmg falls to figure out I was entering through the wrong zone-in part to reach stoneroot falls from undershore
*entering stoneroot falls* *loading... please wait* arrgghh lol

At least it wasn't as bad as the time I wanted to take the "short cut" to the bank in Katta by jumping the whole way down thinking my safe fall skill would save the day.

Think my worst case scenario deaths would be my in game wedding about 5 years ago though, it took place in the temple of solusek and many people attended it. Everything went fine untill someone as a joke objected to the wedding, and gave me the idea to cast one of my cleric nukes on him (to get the msg "%t Has been struck by the wrath of the gods"). Seemed like a fun idea at the time.... of course after I nuked her all the NPC's attacked me lol, the guildies & guests tried to help me out but that didn't go too well. Was definately a spectaculair wedding that people won't forget, the bride lost a level and more than half of the guests were slaughtered

I blame the guildies though hehe, we had the motto "we fight together, we die together" which was lots of fun but not always practical =P We once managed to wipe raiding the efreeti lord in SolB with 3 groups during some downtime. As main puller I accidently fell into the lava and couldn't get out... next thing I know the entire raidforce dived into the lava screaming "We won't let you die alone!!" And so we all died in the lavapool together.
Try explaining that when people ask: "How did the raid go?" =P

Not too long ago my guild was doing Emp Ssra for the rift to vt key. During the battle, for some odd reason the emp ignored the MT, SA, and 2 other backup tanks and went straight to the cleric. Slap, whap, splat. So fast even the healing X pot wouldn't be quick enough.

Fortunately we recovered from the loss of one cleric and killed the snake.

My dumbest splat in recent memory was when I was porting around vendor farming. I ported into Grimling Forest, changed to wolf form, and ran to the merchants. Only to find shortly thereafter that cats don't like dogs. :P Then, in my panic, I ran around and clicked off wolf form (as if that would stop further aggro) so I couldn't even make it to a zone...

Have had plenty of surprise deaths throughout the years though... keeps it interesting I guess.

i think every bard have made this mistake ; running too close to guard(s),still playing your dam songs..killed me a few times )
especially in places where some guards / npc's wander.
though i think i have learned from this i wont say its never gonna happen again.

              Not EQ but....

A long time ago, on my Commodore 64/128, I was playing Might & Magic IV (it might have been III or V or some other Roman numeral, but it definitely was M&M). I had an awesome group all built up and equipped and they would regularly fly through all of the mobs and boss mobs that I had found up to that point. I was doing a square by square run through of some places that I hadn't been to very much and decided to clear out a place that I can't remember the name of but it was a huge cavern full of dragons. It was no problem for my oober group of adventurers and I easily plowed through each and every mob and group of mobs that I came up. Then, way back in the corner, there was a straight hallway that I started down. Square six. No mobs. Square five. No mobs. Square 4, square 3, still no mobs. Square 2, pop. An Ancient Dragon. Fight or Run? Well, cocky little me, who hadn't lost a fight or even a group member in so long that I couldn't even remember when one had died said FIGHT!

An Ancient Dragon casts Ooober Named Spell and group member one is totally disintegrated. An Ancient Dragon claws group member two for 20,000,000 points of damage. And so on and so forth. Not only did not ONE of my group members have time to even lift a weapon, 4 of the 6 were turned into molecules so small that they didn't even exist anymore.

Moral of the story: Ancient Dragons can kick adventurers' patootie.

Peaking of KOS in wolf form, barbarian in halas don;t like them either. While I was in halas dumping my mostly worthless tradeskill junk into tribute master, I accidently clicked on beastial alignment aa and became a wolf like my pet.

Fortunately I was able to handle the beating from half of halas as I ran to the zone.

                  Okay, last night... <grumble grumble>

Was hunting up the wife's young ronin... for her froggy cultural armour... in oasis of marr. Sitting there blasting away at the dervs who just kept popping.

Well, here is me with a <crunch crunch crunch> coming from somewhere... Oh shoot... get up and run off to turn around and see what's coming. Dumb pet starts smacking a named (Calaen?) sand giant. Of course, when I heard the crunch I was reaching for my Blood of the wolf potion. I flip out, and thinking like a lvl 8 nakid gnome start running. Was playing my 36 'chanter. Bad move... my pet... bam bam bam.... byebye Jenkins. Me 12 paces from ZI... bambambam byebye Fur....

Boy, when I opened my eyes did I feel stupid. didn't root, didn't stun, didn't charm... didn't mez.... didn't try anything... LOL.... was grouchy but had to laugh... it was one of those guts get twisted adrenaline moments.... Just guess I thought I was safe and my flight or fight was set to flight.

                  Take care.
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

This is not me who went splat but I was a bit the cause.

Couple of weeks back 2 friends and myself obtain the key to Howling Stones. So we decide to go and add them to keyring, and while there do some hunting. My chanter gnome, is still working on her epic 1 and indifferent to the scorpidis so I say to my friends "let me run there and park, then I wake druid so she can come and hunt there with you". Plan being chanter zone in for key, then gates back to POK, and druid zones in for some hunting.
I tell our MT, who also happens to be the druids ingame husband, wait here for {friend nr 2} while I run there. Off my gnome runs with her levi and throws herself into the gorge right in front of the entrance to the HS zone.
And while I float peacefully down I suddenly see 2 nude legs appear at the top of my screen, then 2 knees, nekkid barbarian buttocks and in a flash our MT overtakes me in the descent to the bottom of the gorge in OT.
By the time I arrive at the bottom, his body is spread out in a pool of gore.
couple of minutes later a string of swearing asking what the heck had happened (laughing again while writing this)?
MT had gone on auto follow as standard, and then needed to go afk 2 secs but forgot to tell me he was afk & on auto.

3 of us nearly died laughing as it was so very funny, he arrived back just seeing a flash of grey (stone walls) and the ..loading please wait... message.

But then we at times do very 'stoopid' things, like the time my DE rogue sees a guard attack a friend in Nektulous and (being in first view and completely forgetting I am not my KoS Druid) I help the friend out and get a major faction hit. Kick self and now approx 100 stacks of ratwiskers later I am amiable to Neriak traders but still very aprehesive to guards

I was level 21 and bound in the adventures camp in butcher block. I camped out there just before the anniversary celibration with all the skellys. When I logged in the next day they were out in force Splatted serveral times before I could run far enough to get clear of the choas. Fortunately a pally in the zone rezzed me when the sun came up. I had no clue what was going on.

Was playing my level 20 'chanter tonight, and was running to EK to join up with a friend to kill Crag spiders. Running and typing, apparently is as bad as drinking and driving, as I was typing a message to him that I'd be there in a couple more minutes, when I ran off the path from Highhold Pass and took the obligatory 20,000 Hps of damage, and found myself in Shadeweaver's at the PC zoneline. The funny thing was, that as I was falling, I tried desperately to run back up the side of the mountain. Heh. Took me another 20 mins to run back to EK from Shadeweaver's, though I zoned back in from NK that time.

I've got another unexpected sudden death to add.

I was heading out to Cobalt Scar one day to farm for some arctic wyvern hides. For the first part of my journey, I was crossing the Great Divide in order to reach the miniature castle that would take me to the Plane of Mischief, and from there to Cobalt Scar.

So here I was, racing from the Plane of Knowledge book to the castle, levitating and riding my giant white drogmar. Eventually, I arrived at the castle, but I was really high in the sky. Since I couldn't manually descend while mounted, I clicked off the mount in order to head down.

The next thing I knew, I was heading towards the ground - really, REALLY fast. Splat, 20,000 points of damage. Returing to home point...Loading, please wait...

/em makes a note for himself: Next time, click on the boot (mount) symbol, NOT the winged (levitation) symbol!

Well, WAY back when... I was on a Chardok raid going for a cleric-friend's epic Queen kill and had to go afk. I was still a little bit green behind the druidic ears and had been told if ever I went afk I was to auto-follow a group member... preferrably a healer. Well I did just that. However no one told me that THAT healer had managed to get to apprehensive faction and was to be our scout for the Queen room.

I came back to a freshly rezed naked me with a hearty round of congratulations. The cleric had made her scouting run with me in tow JUST after I left. As I hear it, the scouting cleric practically wet herself as the entire room she was acquiring targets from (Including the Queen) all began charging approximately towards her position! So the last laugh was mine!
