  • Bizarre Bazaar!

This was just so annoying I had to post it.

Last night I was skilling up on baking making patty melts.

After 200 combines it was kinda late, so I decided to set up trader.

I happened to have 2 extra stacks of cheese, and since my next skill-up session I'd need to go to JP anyhow, I figured I'd just put them up for sale too. So not caring if they sold or not I put them up at 1pp, with a cost of less than 2 silver I wasn't thinking it would.

The third food I had was fish-rolls, just extra lying around 4 stacks or so.

Anyhow, I wanted to get rid of the Patty Melts fast, because I had a lot, so I priced them at 6gp.

The Fish rolls were at my standard 8gp price, used to sell them a lot.

Now keep in mind that Patty Melts and fish rolls, other than the graphic, are Identical. Banquet size meal, .1 lbs.

First thing to sell naturally... the Cheese, some lazy skilling up baker spent 40pp on 2 stacks of cheese .

Second thing, Fish Rolls... why on earth would they pay more for an identical item?

Now I still had a bunch of Patty melts on me when I went to work, having sold 2 stacks total.

Probably end up giving them away to friends and guildies unless they sell during the day, but man thats just annoying.

I'm confused. You're complaining about selling things you put up for sale?

No, I'm complaining about idiots who would pay more for an identical item just because they know what a fish roll is, and don't take the time to check stats.

I wasn't really complaining about the cheese, but it is annoying that someone is sooo lazy that they would pay 50x what a vendor sells an item for.

I also sold approx 250 Grobb Liquidized meat during that time at 8pp each so this was just spare change.

Lets see, the price for a stack of patty melts was 12pp and the price for a stack of fish rolls was 16pp, correct? And you consider people idiots because they didn't take the time to compare food prices in order to save a grand total of 4 pp per stack? I don't call that idiotic, I call that people in a hurry who don't consider a mere 4 pp savings worth much effort.

And it was to your benefit was it not? Seems like you're biting the hand that feeds you, so to speak.

          No, I feed Them

Seriously, customers who buy items I'm skilling up with are not the ones that feed me. I am well fed by the people who buy the trivial items I make for profit.

I guess I'm just not yet rich enough to do that. I remember when I didn't make food/drink, I would select 'food' in the window, then sort by price, lowest on top.

I'd then buy the cheapest banquet size I could find. Then again I'd also buy 1 misty thicket picnic and hope it lasted for a month before I forgot to force feed. Perhaps in a few more months 12pp saved on 3 stacks of food wont matter a bit to me.

Obviously someone just did a search for Fish Rolls and went to you when your name came up on the list. Probably never even noticed the Patty Melts you had for sale.

I will actually pay more for Patty Melts rather than buy Fish Rolls when shopping for food in the Bazaar. Boleslav likes Patty Melts more than Fish Rolls, even though in RL I know they have the same in-game effect.

Paying 40pp for cheese is someone who values 40pp less than the time it would take them to go to Jaggedpine Forest. Lots of those folks around.

Yeah, my guess was that someone searched "fishroll" and just bought yours out of pure luck.

I used to have a standard response to complaints like this that I'm not sure will pass the family filters here, I'll try and be nice....

You are annoyed because people clearly spent too much by shopping with you and not looking around?

That's awful! I have a similiar problem! My [male member] is too big, my wife is too pretty and she's too focused on the bedroom! What tough lives we have!

I don't know if everyone who bought your fish rolls did so in stacks, but it could be that the people were just filling up stacks they already had. If I hab 8 fish rolls left, I would want to buy 12 fish rolls, not 12 patty melts, even if the patty melts were cheaper. The room in my pack is worth way more than the 3pp saved.

Quesci, I thought it was that too, I could see myself filling a stack I already had, but it was bought by multiple people, and for full stacks. I can only assume they have an affinity for bat wings.

Wyrdlan, just because you come out ahead from others idiocy, doesn't mean you shouldn't be upset about it.

If I make a very good trade and profit more than I had any right to, I still feel sad for the guy that got the shaft, hehehe

If a cashier gives me too much change, I complain as loudly as if I had been shortchanged... which IRL isn't too loud, but I am not biased in my disdain for idiots.

But not annoying that someone charges 50x what a vendor sells an item for?

They couldn't have paid that much if you hadn't charged that much ;P

                        1) I have patty melts as my "force feeding" food on my Paladin... but I have fish rolls on my Cleric. Unless I'd cleared a stack (lots of playing without returning to restock), I'd always buy what I needed to fill the stack.

                        2) I don't have a teleporting class character. I don't have a SoW class character. I haven't worked on Jaggedpine faction at all. It was many, many times easier for me to buy Cheese in the Bazaar (or get lucky and find someone's extras on a vendor) than drag one of my characters down to Jaggedpine.

And in the Druid Airlines post in OOC, we have the following quote from Delfontes:

I charge for whatever someone is willing to pay for. I charge as much as I possibly can for said service.
                          Color me confused.

Carmaris, how doesn't that make sense?

I said previously in the thread those particular small change items I was pricing to get rid of... everyone has to clear space.

I got more for the cheese than anyone could reasonably expect, so thats true to my statement.

But you were upset about it, about people spending far more than they should. You were upset about people paying more than they should for products identical in effect, differing only in icon and name. And yet in the quote above, you basically talk about price gouging...seems to be a conflict of interest.
