'more money than they should pay' and the 'most money they should pay' are two different things. Similar, but critically different - they lay on different sides of a line.

Uh...Originally posted by delfontesCarmaris, how doesn't that make sense?
I said previously in the thread those particular small change items I was pricing to get rid of... everyone has to clear space.
I got more for the cheese than anyone could reasonably expect, so thats true to my statement.
If you felt that the person over-paid for the Cheese... and you weren't planning on using any of the Cheese you didn't sell yourself... Then it's not the person's fault for over-paying, it's your fault for charging more than you thought someone should pay.
As for the Patty Melt/Fish Roll thing... If you know that Patty Melts and Fish Rolls are "identical" in end-user value... then why did you price them differently?
Example:
Boar Chops: trivial >250; miraculous meal, all saves +5, wt 3.0, small, Yield 1 per combine.
Holy Cake: trivial 242; miraculous meal, 5 to all saves, wt. 0.1, size large, Yield 6 per combine.
Based solely upon the end-user value of the food, the Holy Cakes should be sold for more than the Boar Chops. They both have the exact same effect (+5 to all saves) & duration (Miraculous meal), but the Holy Cakes are much lighter!Angelsyn Whitewings, Cleric of Tunare for 66!
Seasons.
Grandmistress Smith - 300, Grandmistress Tailor - 300, Potter - 300, Jeweler - 300, Brewer - 200, Baker - 200, Fletcher - 200, Fisherwoman - 169
Keyne Falconer, Paladin of Erollisi Marr for 66 Seasons.
Grandmistress Baker - 300, Grandmistress Blacksmith - 300, Potter - 200, Brewer - 139, Tailor - 91

I would have used it eventually, just priced it high because I didn't really care if it sold or not. The cheese was not the intention of the rant, other than to say it seems to be an easy way for a port class to make money I guess. If you felt that the person over-paid for the Cheese... and you weren't planning on using any of the Cheese you didn't sell yourself... Priced patty melts cheaper because I was attempting to get rid of them. I assumed falsly that by pricing an identical item higher the lower priced item would actually sell. This does lend itself to more research, if I can find other similar 'popular' items I should theoretically be able to make quite a profit out of similar stuff. As for the Patty Melt/Fish Roll thing... If you know that Patty Melts and Fish Rolls are "identical" in end-user value... then why did you price them differently?
They are also identical in weight, I value weight greatly as my 'main' is a monk.
I really hate to repeat myself... lending a question as to why I do it so often. But you were upset about it, about people spending far more than they should. You were upset about people paying more than they should for products identical in effect, differing only in icon and name. And yet in the quote above, you basically talk about price gouging...seems to be a conflict of interest.
I have said many times it is impossible to price gouge in the game, because people are not forced to buy.
I don't think it is inconsistent for me to not apply my patented greedy get as much as I can type attitude when attempting to get rid of skill-up items quickly.
(before that statement starts another spin, I would never undercut to get rid of things quicker, I'd sooner sell to a vendor to free up space, patty melts are not exactly an item people would use to make profits... they would use fish rolls, which I priced slightly above other people online at the time)
Anyhow, the patty melts were gone when I got home that day... whenever I first wrote this post.

Mebbie the person was like me and was trying to discourage the sin that is the patty melt?
Reeeally though, I detest patty melts, I buy (well, bought, seeing as i'm on a break from eq from totally unrelated reasons :? ) fish rolls to encourage people to make them! Yes yes, I know, patty melts will take you to 191.. on vendor ingredients.. which is a good bad thing.
(Note. If this is too incoherant, disregard it, cause the whole "wait, what was i talking about?" thing is the reason I'm quiting eq.. but thats a rant for another time)
