  • Aghhhhhh..

Ok this is just for me to let off a bit of frustration.. 384 (and counting) combines in j/C and no skill up.. trying to go from 285 to 286.
I wouldn't care so much but I have used up 220+ BD's, scaleore, and pp in gem studded chains..

WTB a RNG that likes me.. just for 1 day *sigh*

Umm..at that skill level, you can still use storebought stuff. Check this list and save those Blue diamonds for later.

Ummm... okay I'm missing it then. I thought (other than the gem studded chain with a triv of 335) that 282 (velium ruby veils) was the highest you could go with storebought stuff.

Unless something happened in a recent patch that I missed Jacinth, Black Sapphire and Diamond are all mob drops. They can not be bought off a vendor unless someone first sells them to that vendor. You have to go vendor diving for those or kill the mobs that might drop them.

well i never said they where!, but if you want to save some pp instead of doing BDs (mob dropped!!) and Gem studed Chains you have to go vendor diving for those gems...

Sorry I misunderstood. The first reply said that menssia01 could still be doing storebought combines at her level (285) and saving her BDs for later. I asked what combines could be done after 282 from storebought stuff cause I didn't remember any (other than gem studded chain and I knew they didn't mean that cause they mentioned saving the BD for later and the highest BD combine is Cazicite Blue Diamond Ring at 328 and the gem studded chains are at 335). Immediately after my post asking what could be done after 282 that was storebought you posted your list with the Jacinths, Black Sapphires and Diamonds so I assumed you were answering my question. Apparently you weren't. Again sorry, was just replying based on what I read.

Jikes thats really bad luck =(
You might want to try offering your services to upgrade augments to get a few skill ups. When I was working on my JC I offered free aug upgrades for all my friends and guildies, and offered my skills for donations on succes in PoK. Have to admit it only got me 1 skill up (292-293 in my case) but it doesnt cost much. Gave up when they announced 250-300 would become harder and did gem studded chains all the way up to 300 to beat the patch (made a guildy very happy with a couple of hundred gem studded chains for his tailoring lol). But still... augment upgrades are good if you're not in a real hurry to get to 300, and you can earn some pp on the way. Another thing that helped me some is offering 1 blue diamond velium bracelet in trade for 2 blue diamonds in groups (bracelets are great tribute compared to the BD's). Good luck on getting 300!

Unfortunately for me I'm not allowing myself that option. I'm only level 52 and have no AA's. Without JCM and Salvage I personally don't feel right risking other peoples aug's. Especially with all the postings I've read showing only a roughly 70% success rate WITH those AA's. I've only attempted one (and failed with no skill-up) and that was one of my fiance's and he told me I didn't have an option...

It's not too bad still, I have 300JC on my monk, made my chanty just for the Mastery AA's but did the aug cutting on her when she was only lvl 30 (shes also 52 now) On my server most jewellers charge 1-5K to attempt an aug upgrade, which isn't worth it for sv augments and many of the lower stat augs (may vary per server). Tradeskill combines are always a risk, at 300JC (315) modified, no mastery AAs but do have salvage 1, I succeed on rougly 80% of the augments (did about 150 radiant cuts so far). My chanty is still at 293JC +throphy, did a batch of radiant cut sv augs on her yesterday, 10/13 successes. People won't toss you the big augments at 285 skill, but many people with less precious augs are willing to take a risk instead of being charged more than the value of their uncut aug.
On my chanty, I never have set donations, just offer my skill and allow people to donate whatever they consider fair if I succeed, for the valuable augments I'll refer m to the Jewellers with max skill, AA's and Salvage.

There are entire weeks when the RNG hates me, so I feel for you. Hang in there, and find someone to distract Bristlebane the next time you're going on a combine spree ... have a monk dance on a table or something!

I feel your pain and I had a first that's not encouraging... two long no skill-up runs back to back. 187 combines for 291 and 117 combines for 292. Prior to this after a long run I could usually expect to get 1 to 3 skill-ups withing the next 60 combines, not this time. I think my BD consumtion is in the 750+ range . Don't really wanna think about it. At 293 currently, two more points before I triv the BDs which is gonna be both good and bad for me. Good because I'm about to the point of being sick to even look at them. Bad because once those are triv'd I won't be able to sit at vendor do the combines and then sell the successes back to vendor. All the geode, polished quartz, scale ore and gem studded chain combines only sell back to a merchant for a couple plat to just over 21 for the chain. I do not have enough money to throw away so I'll need to put them on my trader. I'll have to do this slowly cause I don't have the *room* on my trader and in my bank for 1000+ rings, bracelets, etc. With the skill-up history so far it looks like that's how many I'll end up going through.

I think Im gonna use that Bristlebane puppet you get as one of the Veteran rewards, the first time I do a skillup run after they go Live. If HE is dancing a jig, he won't have time to mess with my skillup rates.

Failures on trivial recipes has long been a bone of contention with me. While doing a run on MTP, I failed several of the sub-combines. My baking skill is over 220 unmodified.

When I try and explain it to non-eq people, I use a RL example. How often do you think someone like Emeril fails at beating eggs? Or sifting flour? Or any of the other rl "sub combines" he has to do to make something? It's just a pointless waste of our time and plat.

That's one of the things I love about the WoW tradeskill system. No such thing as a failure. Sure, you have recipes that you won't get a skillup for, but at least you have something to show for all your effort.
