I'm level 54, been slowly grinding my way to 55 over the past month. I'm not an uber player, I'm just a regular working joe. I haven't heard of a SINGLE THING that OOW does that would affect me in the SLIGHTEST. Everything is set exclusivly for the Uberguilds(tm) and upper end content I will never see.
Well... the task system may apeal to you though. A good way for a soloist to get exp But that is just ONE reason...

      Um... Ngreth ....

      54 > 50 last time I checked.

Task system, at release, will be for levels 1 - 50 only.

That puts quite a damper on the value of the "task system" for several of us. (Me - 65, TheWife - 54, almost 55)

Oh, did I mention that solo/duo LDoNs were shelved? Hmm... I have about 30 LDoN wins, from back when I wasn't taking a full college course load. My wife has precisely ZERO wins. Gee, I can't think of whom a solo/duo LDoN environment might possibly help with exp/cash/gear.... Besides me and TheWife. Oh, wait, that's actually just about the only two people who's play experience I actually give a bixie wing about.

I love the game. I understand SOE better than 99% of the people who play this game. My good friend owns an online game. (No I won't say which, and it isn't SOE/Sigil/Blizzard.) I'm finally getting my 4-year paper in programming so I can get paid to design games. (Which is why I don't submit my ideas to SOE, they are my intellectual property and I have a vested interest in SOE not fixing their problems.) I just wish SOE would make the game less about what they want and more about what the players want.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

I was wondering where you found the information that the Single and Duo instance dungeons had been shelved. I too was looking forward to this.

I think if you poke through the archives on EQ's main site you can find it. It was an official anouncement somewhere.

and "shelved" does not mean never, just defenitely not BEFORE omens, and the initial omens bug fixes. And after they see how Tasks do.

To dispell a few nasty rumors, ta da, I present you the following!

                http://eqforums.station.sony.com/eq/...redir=true#M32

<Brannoc> *SDKSnowboy* Several rumors have been afloat as to leveling from 65 to 70. Will advancing to level 70 be based purely off of standard XPing, and will there be any Requirements, AA or otherwise, to achieve levels.

<Rytan> Leveling from 65-70 will be exactly like leveling from 60-65. Traditional experience filling that little yellow and blue bar that you all know and love.
<Brannoc> *Nerfme* Are level 51 to 65 tasks going to be in game on release?

<Brenlo> We plan to at the moment but things can change. Watch for any announcements as we get closer to launch.
I know that won't change the minds of the rabid anti-expansion crowd but here you go, the latest public infos.

(I have preordered OoW because the old content is getting well.. a bit old and I need something new to do)

Although now that I think of it it is entirely possible they are the spawns of the Elder Gods come to bring madness, destruction and creepy tentacle things to us...
Cthulu was in marketing? .. that does make more sense now....

They did mention a few days ago they were going to make the tasks available to higher than level 50's... but (and this is goign to be a HUGE shock)... it will be unfinished when OoW goes live. The real question will be, will anythign in OoW actually be finished (yes, it's a novel idea, but we can hope).

As for progression... yeh, only one zone is locked... sadly, unless you're through elementals/time, or GoD... the rest of the zones will be unusable.

The good news is, they're finishing berserkers.. you know, the class they released 8 month ago.. course, that'll be sometime AFTER OoW...

And yes, level 70 might help the non-raiders get into elementals... 2 year old content.

I have seen more comments from people in the past couple weeks about quiting EQ than i ever have. Yeh, OoW night be really nice for the raider; have a few small trinkets for the other 90% of the players.... but it does show where Sony is going with the game. I expect another exodus of players because of it, and it won't be from a minority group this time.

Only 2 people in my guild are saying they're pre-ordering the expansion, a few are waiting to see, most are uninterested, and a few are waiting for WoW. Sony is it's own worst enemy at this time.

Their marketing pop up shows us exactly what their interest is.

Quite possibly true, but I consider it far better than the content being unusable and flag/key locked out. Pure gear&skill-based "locks" are flexible, they can accomidate a lot of possibilities and permit unusual circumstances. Flags&keys are much more strict.

A few years ago, I would occasionally raid with a friend's guild - it was quite fun, and via healing I could actually contribute a little, though I admit being so much lower geared I'm mostly prospective prospective "dead weight".

PoP put a quick stop to that. I could no longer tag along on raids, trivial or significant, due to the flagging restrictions. Even when the raid-push ability came in, those precious push-slots were usually occupied by real prospectives and bots. PoP's raid-for-access system also makes it extremely unlikely that I'll *ever* get to see much of that content, since even when I/'we' could handle the zone, I/'we' couldn't handle the raid encounter to get there.

I'm hopeful about OoW - if the content is locked, not by flags or keys, but by equipment and skill, that's the way I like it. It restores the ability to raid with friends again, at least in that expansion. For me, the interactions with friends are what is key to EQ; losing the ability to spend time with my more raid-centric friends was a big loss to me, and even the possibility of that returning is a joyful thing. The gear-/ability-based system also holds the hope for, in some distant future, I/'we' might eventually have the power to hunt there and get there by my/'our' own means, without having to rely on the generousity of some external entity (raiding guild, raiding organization, etc).

"If anyone pre orders Omens, please let me be the first to say "you are an idiot to buy another untested product." the Beta period for Omes is the shortest testing period in the history of Everquest. GoD used to hold that title, and look at the pile of dung it turned out to be."

I pre-ordered it months ago. Sorry I do not consider myself an idiot. I have purchased each and every expansion. And I have enjoyed each and every one so far.

What is not to enjoy. Neat new places to explore. New upgrades to old spells, sometimes even an actual new spell. New gear to get, New quests to do. New factions to work or on, New Tradeskill recipies to do, More AA to get.

I play EQ to relax and enjoy myself, I work 40+ hours a week and have a social life outside of EQ yet I am in a time/GOD guild have killed quarm on numerous occasions gotten myself Keyed for VT, Sleepers tomb, All POP zones including seventh hammer, VP, Went to POM pre-nerf all the while having fun and not getting stressed out about a game I play to relax and enjoy myself.

New spells means more power, Same thing for new levels. Too many people take this game way to seriously or are always looking at what they don't have rather than maximizing what skills and abilities they do have and playing up to the best potential of whatever class they have chosen.

Compare the cost of an EQ account, and its expansions... to Cable TV.

To me, EQ, even with its various problems, is far more fun, engrossing and intelligent then 80 channels of fecal matter. Cheaper too. By far.

And the ironic thing is I was a cable installer/service tech for 6 years. =)

This is my opinion. ('cept for that part about being a cable guy, thats fact)

I could have sworn I read somewhere that the extra spell slot and buff slots would be gained via AA points.

The AA lists that have been floating around (from test server "/alt list", at least) have indicated that that looks true, assuming it doesn't change before OoW goes live.
