simplest way to get there: ask a firendly wizard for a TL =)

This may sound like a dumb question....but I just don't know the answer

Why does it make a difference after a patch to go vendor diving? I thought that the vendors would clear all their inventory after a patch? This is wrong apparently?

well, not IMMEDIATELY after a patch, lol

Yes, merchants' invenories are cleared after a patch, so no junk taking up space...wait some time til people have had a chance to adventure and sell loot and then go check the merchants.

People who have filled all their bags with loot will usually sell the stuff they don't want to NPC vendors near banks (or porting locations) and stick the rest of the loot in their bank space. There's a brief window of time between the time a server becomes available after a patch and when the most convenient vendors run out of inventory space where a lucky vendor miner can find some really neat stuff.

Of course, people will also sell useful stuff at some random out-of-the-way vendor. It's fun to stumble on something you can use in some remote corner of the world, days or weeks after a patch.

So far today I've liberated from PoK vendors:
              1 Discordant Scoriae
              1 Trean Flies
              and 1 Dust of Discord.

              Yay me!

Two days after Omens release. I find 3 stacks of slugworms in Gunthak. Looks so much like bait. A stack of lightening cores as well. This week I found 12 metallic drake scales.

{I know... just a joke... but I still have to remove it. Since I can sense there was no malice... I am only removing the text, and taking no other action. But please, that is an absolute no-no here, and if there was malice, it is an instant ban offense.)

3 stacks of slugworms? stack of lightning cores?

I now know what was deleted from mithridate's post... because I'm feeling that same sense of impending doom...

                    no... I shall remain calm...

the poster stated this was 2 DAYS after OoW's release...it was not a recent find.

Perfectly undestandable, when an expansion is first released lots of clueless folks sell things to merchants that later turn out to be important tradeskill components. Personally, when looting stuff in a new expansion, I certainly will not blindly sell everything off to NPC merchants, especially tradeskill tagged items.

Just as the first day after a patch is the best time to vendor dive, the first days after a new expansion release is the best time to buy everything you can see (even non-tradeskill-tagged) and store it on mules.

                        • The number was 54 to be exact and 17 cores. Wish I had seen what ever comment was deleted, and I wish slugworms still dropped at a rate where you could get a stack or two in a couple days.

I took it as the joke it was intended as, but nonetheless... Our policy on them is very strict... it includes "don't even joke about it" but since it was obviously a joke, the only action I took was to remove it

                            • My exciting NPC vendor diving find was a Steel Hilted Flint Dagger on an NPC for 88pp. I'd wanted one of these play around with for ages, but couldn't bring myself to pay out the nose for it in the bazaar. I'd also never gotten one to drop the couple of times I went playing in HS. Anyway, yay HS being a hotspot =D

                              • I just checked this thread again and saw an earlier post of mine was edited, and rightfully so. I can see how it shouldn't be something on these paticular boards, and I apologize for causing the Mods extra work. Ngreth was correct in assuming it was purely a joke -- the sort of thing you type in-game as a reply to someone who tells you they just scored 3 stacks of an otherwise 20k item off of an NPC vendor for about 5pp. As usual: all in good jest. =)
